mzms,

great guide and very true. EER is the key. i used to use carrier only cause they had the highest EER. now switching one by one to inverter cause they run 24/7 ar 28°. very comfy actually and this does save a lot money. in general cooling the room moderately saves a lot and you tend to freeze less too wink.gif
*
If I not mistaken, the carrier EER rotary comp is from panasonic. whistling.gif

PJusa, ya inverter is suitable in your case. For example, if I run my sharp at 27C only it cools down quickly and then the compressor stops for 3 minutes then restart for 4, stop 3, restart 4, etc etc... this consumes a ton of electricty because we all know electronics (like our PCs) draw huge amount of current when turning on. So to run at 27C I need inverter unit. I normally just run at AUTO mode which will be 25C and this seems to be the best setting for me.

Added on August 15, 2009, 6:50 amKKW, what problem with the 1.5HP unit? Maybe I will try panasonic for the 2.5HP unit and use York for the 1HP units. My brother has two York 1HP units and they are very good. However, he also has a Samsung which is very bad (within 1 year rosak, I was there when it started blowing hot air).

Added on August 15, 2009, 7:25 amjust want to share two more feedback from friends using sharp, lg, panasonic and haier.
friend A:
use Sharp at rented place as well as own home. first sharp no problems until 3 years, then leaking problems. then capacitor blown and blow warm air. then change to panasonic, 3 years so far no problem. own home using haier 2 units, both problematic and always break down. change to sharp, in 1 year already problem so change to LG, so far 2 years no problem. at parent's place use haier, not cold at all.

friend b
using haier for 6 years only serviced once, very cold and no problems at all.

so conclusion is... buying aircond like proton car lor... u lucky u get good one u not lucky u get bad apple, hahaha. i think car aircond more reliable hahaha.

after change it.. the problem solve..
another one is.. remote control censor cant detect the control
btw, for my opinion, on high speed fan on Penasonic 2.5hp slightly quite than York 2.5hp

Here's a very simple excel calculator I put together to give a very rough idea of electricity usage and cost. It does not take into consideration EER or anything, just simple wattage only (assume same btu rating). Download the attached zip file. Open the excel file and change the fields in yellow. You can then compare Units A and B etc. Hope is useful to give rough idea.

For a more elaborate one, go to the energystar website and download the excel savings calculator. It is intended for USA use but you can change the states (number of hours) to suit the number of hours you use your aircond closest to your own usage. Link: http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=roomac.pr_room_ac

EDIT: uploaded excel 2003 format, pls try again.

ok please try again, i re-uploaded in 2003 format. I really regret not buying the York in terms of savings in eletricity usage. But no point now, I think I want to move the Sharp to the infrequently used small guest room and then install either Panasonic or York in my own room.
