I only listen to my old man said.
And their old school thinking proven to be right, so no Korean brand for me.
I bought my Panasonic basic fridge for rm1500 8 years ago and still standing strong, come to about ~rm200 a year. But Panasonic earning are pretty bad for the past few years, 1 of the reason is their products lasting.
Even my say hello/bye bye(not that close) friend that working as sub con for Panasonic repair also says get the most basic type Panasonic and you won't headache for the next 10 years.

More electronic parts = easier to fail.
Make it this way, a basic fridge that can last 10 years with 2 years warranty which you never send it back for repair.
An inverter that gives you 5 years warranty and during the 10 years usage, it failed twice and repair may take 1 month each time.
Inverter boast that they can save up to 40%(under certain condition which tested by them) which is doubtful in actual we can get that value. Is just like the latest Mitsubishi Attrage/Mirage that boast can do 21km/l but with the manual variant and drive at 80-90km/h on flat road only.
So, is your take on which you want to. For me, less headache is my primary target.
I don't give a sheet on warranty, I will concentrate on reliability.

No idea about fridge.

But if you know how to use them, Inverter air conditioner really will save you 40% in actual experience.

Go to air cond thread. Explain there already

https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3061458/+380

BTW, I find it hard to find power consumption of fridge sold in Malaysia. It's easy for air cond but not fridge.

Not difficult. Open the fridge and the sticker spec either stick at side or the inner door side. It will tell you the running ampere.

But I do find some fridge don't have this running amp. I won't consider this kind of no information fridge.

Or some fridge have some sticker state annually consumption in the front. Like 460kwh/yrs according to JIS test bla bla bla.

Hi @Ozak

I found out that the fridge information is not accurate. Like mine, I do have kill-a-watt meter to measure, the reading on the meter when the fridge compressor is running is 130-136 Watt, where else the sticker is stating 140-170 watt (1.4 Ampere). Since the compressor is not running all the time, it hard to average the fridge consumption per day by using the sticker information.

As for mine, I do found out that per day, the average consumption of my refrigerator is about 2.0-2.2 kWh. I think it is quite huge amount for 291 litre fridge.

It is something like general information. But at least there is a information for us to know. The only way to check accurate consumption is like what you do. Use a kill a watt meter. As you know each household have his own habit to use fridge. So no way the manufacturing can measure it.

Another about accurate guide is those fridge really save, have 5star rating and state annual consumption. But it still subject to some standard guideline testing. That maybe very much different from your pattern of using.

I guess your fridge at least over 10yrs. It is quite high consumption per liter. The only way you can do is change. It is an old mechanism problem. Just like my 1. Over 16yrs, 292liter. Check with kill a watt meter - 13kwh/day, 56.6kwh/mth, RM1.86/day. sweat.gif

I m looking for a new fridge now. smile.gif

Hi @Ozak

Surprisingly, my fridge is just merely 6 yrs ... just realize it recently when I monitor the TNB meter where it consume 8 units on 3 days with no ppl at home.

Anyway I also looking for inverter fridge and this link has some useful information on inverter fridge consumption

Panasonic NR-BW415XSAU 410L Fridge/Freezer

Ran the fridge for 23rs 51 mins on the monitor.
sticker rated input = xxxw
compressor running wattage= ~40w -~86w The inverter does all sorts of weird things with the wattage. It mostly sits at 80w but does drop down from time to time too.) Watching the wattage over the last few hours it seems to step up and down in about 15w intervals.. ~44 -> ~60 -> ~75 -> ~86 -> ~98 (when quick freeze is pressed)
lights on add's 1w (LED's of course)
approx cost per day = 19c
Total consumption over 24 hours = 0.763KwH
Yearly cost based on the above conditions = ~$69.06

Than you have to look for a way to cut down the consumption. Check what wrong first. If you don't find the problem, a good new fridge won't save you either.

Thanks for the link.

It is same principal and usage as aircon. But the saving amount is vary but still there.

I m looking for inverter fridge too. And I lock down the choice criteria must be inverter. Nothing else. I m welcome any new technology that improve. Others consider is, size, type of seal, type of door, compartment arrangement and consumption per liter.

Mine only using 1-2unit a day or 3 units 2 days, 400l 8 years old Panasonic. Usually about 50-60 full and set the cooler at medium. And I don't really simply open and close all the time. 1 day maybe only open 3-4 times.
And I do find that the seal are important also.

Let's say a 700 liter fridge. How much in approx Ringgit term can be expect from inverter fridge?

For example, I think for a 13,000 BTU air cond for night use, it will reduce bill from RM100 to RM60.

I have done that, check for leakage at the sealer, clean the compressor for dust .. still very heavy consumption
