random question..

When Finn suggested to "use the Force" to blow up the Starkiller, was that meant to be a humorous poke at ANH?

Memorable laughs, great action, emotionally nostalgic and highly compelling despite the the same old formula --- it's a fantastic episode in my opinion. I don't understand how some fans could dislike it? Some local critics even rated it lower than Pixels while some contradict themselves by criticising the lack of new ideas and then complain how Kylo Ren isn't Darth Vader.

QUOTE(Frostlord @ Dec 18 2015, 02:53 PM)
a total let down

personal rating 6/10 (this is inclusive of fanboys points)

1 - Kylo is given such a grand opening doing feats like stopping blaster with force alone and have it staying mid air. but turn up to be an emo kid. hopefully the actor grow up more and does not look like an emo teenager anymore in epi8/9

//that will be his character arch..he is a total 180 of vader..he is explosive, emotionally driven, not enough training padawan..his desire to be greater than vader clouded his judgement..

2 - Captain Phasma stock went down the drain. This is just like dinobots all over again. You can replace all her scene with a stock Imperial officer and the story still's the same. she's included so that there's more toys for hasbro to sell

//yap this is a let down..so many things you can do with the character..but end up just being a plot trigger

3 -  Poe pull a deus ex machina and return back alive. He left his mission (BB8) and return back to resistance base. No wonder he's so happy to see Finn because Finn bring back his mission

//true..lazy writting there..never really explained in the movie

4 - Rey. no backstory whatsoever. hopefully it will not be another spinoff (eg rogue one) for Disney to milk more money

//you will learn more of her in 8 and 9..this new trilogy is not the same with prequel where they shoved the information down your throat..you will get the story once the plot allow you to get it...

5 - Poor story telling. Luke went MIA and leaves a map behind? A map that is incomplete to the resistance but is complete (sort of) to the FO?

//a good discussion on reddit, where Luke actually suppress R2 power so that only give the information when the time is right, or a right person come along ie Rey..but we will learn more why that portion is missing in 8..hopefully

6 - Starkiller needs a star to power up. How many planets in their galaxy with more than 1 Sun? Suck up a Sun -> fire it -> no more Sun to power up -> abandon it and build second Starkiller? Might as well build 5 Deathstar with that resources

//yap..pure fan service with bigger scale..and poor concept of superweapon..

7 - Laughable saber battle scene. at least still better than 2,3,4,5,6. no more face showing with saber spinning scene repeated x times for screen time. well, at least the story support this poor fighting scene by injuring Kylo before the fight and have him fight 2 immature

//actually the fight look much more realistic compared with the rest of the previous movies..maybe only Darth Maul is better..but yeah just like what ve you said..both of them still in training and need to go against each other..iinm i havent watch anything like that before..

Watched this at GSC ATMOS. I feel it doesn't offer anything special. Normal sound only.

Honestly, i dont find anything special for DOLBY ATMOS. Best is still iMAX TGV, best on both visual & audio.

It appears Starkiller base (SKB) is approximately as big as Mars.... A sun in a solar system is approximately hundreds of thousand times more massive than a nearby rocky planets... Example: The Sun is 330k times more massive than Earth (mass to mass).

It appears SKB only siphon the outer plasma of it's host sun, enough to dim it temporary..... it does not consume the sun...hence the one base with almost limitless usage...would last millions/billions of years...

More troubling would be the firing of the weapon has to go through wormhole/hyper-drive/warp-drive as well...this is because SKB is half a galaxy away from Hosnian Prime, say 50k light-years... for Han/Rei/Finn/Kylo on Takodana to be able to observe the beam(s) and the destruction of the planet...Takodana would have to be on the same solar system, if it's another star system, it'll be too far to see the beams and even if the explosion can be seen it'll take half a year or longer to be seen (star to star distance)... if the weapon traveled at the speed of light, it would take 50k years. SKB at most is a planet destroyer, and not a solar system destroyer.

By warping the travel space for the beam, it can be fired anytime (when charged) even without direct line of sight....unlike the 2 previous death stars...

^p.s...... Scientific review, justification...

Light or Dark....is the same Force... just which variant/side one would use...

It'll be great if Luke, mastered it as a whole without differentiation...

SciFi fantasy.... always better with extrapolation of real physical observational properties.... a galaxy far far away is still in this Universe... also a reason why Mythbuster still can test aspects of the lore...

I do enjoy watching the movie. But seeing ep.4,5 n 6 countless times, the nostalgic effects kinda feel overkill. It's like watching a new version of New Hope cycle again. From bb8/r2 on a mission to vader-ben scene / kylo-han scene to starkiller / deathstar to rei quest in finding her destiny / luke dagobah thingy, cantina scenes..but then again just my 2 cents smile.gif

Force... so far... telekinetic, telepathy, mind control, mind reading, force-field, ion (electric) discharge/absorption/re-direct, increase physical speed/prowess

The movie is alot of fun and full of energy. Love Finn and Rey.

Problem was the story and no sense of continuity from previous movie.
I mean the whole galaxy was celebrating in Eps VI, how in the hell everything goes to shit now?

the end of battle of endor basically only saw the end of the emperor rule. and as we all know, the empire was vast. 1st order probably only one of the many splinter factions spawned after the death of the empire.
