Longtime SW fan since 1980s.
TLJ is a massive let down for me.

Pros
____
+ Many scenes are beautifully shot
+ Technically well made - visuals, sounds, editing
+ Happy to see favorite SW characters on screen

Cons (for me personally)
____________________
+ Too many plotholes (Google or Youtube has plenty)
+ Emphasis on female empowerment too overdone
+ Social justice issues too on the nose (slavery, rich is bad, animal abuse, diversity)
+ Leia flying through space and got back without sucking everyone out
+ LUKE - drinking yucky milk, being old and grumpy, pessimistic, and finally faking out his final fight via astral projection... not my Luke for sure

I love the original trilogy and even the prequels had their good moments. This one truly trashes everything I hold dear about SW.

I do understand the need to change and also appeal to the newer generation. And honestly, I think Rian Johnson is a nice guy from his interviews and the way he speaks. I pity him, surely he is getting many flak for this.

Hope Ep9 will somehow redeem this and make me believe again.

This is my ranting review which full of feminazi hatred towards the current Star War franchise after it was polluted by Disney femism and SJW promoting scheme. They are destroying Goerge Lucas 's vision.

Haha, I think they are over-compensating that SW had not much female presence (but I still think Leia in Ep4-6 as well as Padme Ep1-3 were good, strong characters, regardless of gender).


Even ignoring all the feminism and SJW themes, this movie is still a friggin disappointment.
- Why did they kill Admiral Ackbar so casually off-screen? This guy (It's a TRAP!) deserved a better ending.
-No real lighsaber duels (that red guards fight does not count).
- I cannot understand why Ep7 is based on finding Luke and this movie basically says finding him is pointless, because he does nothing significant. How does he inspire future kids to fight by being a coward and just using a hologram?
- Rose should have let Finn die a hero. Instead, she saves and kisses him, but risk the others to die... really WTF?
- The long chase... does not make sense
- Yoda looks like a fake puppet

I cannot understand why critics say this is the best SW since Empire... I feel like punching them in the face

I have to say that I am one of those who share this sentiment, as a fan not a critic though. As a visual spectacle, this movie really blew me away after my first time watching it and it was definitely my new fav after TESB but after reading alot of reviews and fan input on the movie, many of the glaring issues most have pointed out really stood out and made me question the movie direction and plot more.

Here's to hoping the coming episode will be better

Just watched it today, what a HUGE let down!
- Too much unnecessary talking which made me & my wife sleepy
- stupid scenes which were utter nonsense: general Leia flying back to life from outer space and Luke projecting himself like a ghost for his final fight, what a load of bull crap were those scenes!

I think this is it for me, the final nail in the coffin, I'd never waste my money again to watch SW movies in the cinema! Same like the Transformer movies where the last one was just pure crap!

Yeah, some fans, they are. Nearly teared knowing George was harassed to this extent. Now they want him back? Feck off!

3 words - Familiarity breeds contempt.
On the camp that they need to change the formula. Applaud TLJ tried that but not entirely sold how they do it. My gripe not so much about the misfired narrative cues or not delivering a true Star Wars experience. Its the context that drives the changes and restrained treatment of characters building. Just not enough forward thinking tweaks.

At least now they are free from the shackles of revolving future Jedi storylines that not clutch into Skywalker dynasty and explore other path than just the same old sandbox. E9 most likely back to the same old SW experience given that you have JJA at it. Which to me a safe bet not to alienate the fanboys but million dollar question does he have what it takes to propel it to the nect level? Judging from his filmography is no but who knows maybe the star aligned he pull off a surprise.

Disney already write off Solo from their profit. Whether indicative they have no faith of it being good or the reshoot cost just too high to turn sizable profit.

The only issue I had with the trailer is where the hell is Han Solo. Alden Ehrenreich looks underwhelming. Missing that smartass scoundrel. But he was so charming in Hail Caesar that playing Han Solo just look like a child play to him. Could be how the trailer being edited. Hope Ron Horward able to channel Arrested Development for the comedic touches.

Space dragon incoming. Guess they are abandoning single Star Wars movie strategy. So the question will the GOT showrunners adapt existing materials or a brand new serial of movies. If they do KOTOR the internet will breaks. Rian Johnson haters be dissapointed cause they are still rolling out his movies....lol.

Disney marketing at work here to sustain hype beyond episode 9. If Rian Johnson delivers, the money train not gonna stop for a long time for mouse house.
