But it's not like a new chip came along. The RV770 chip in the 4850/70/X2 already existed for quite some time, and believe me, there were a TON of naysayers who believed GT200 would be great (including me, but I kinda felt that RV770 would be uber so there you go laugh.gif ).

This isn't technological progress making the prices drop. It's basically a well-placed headshot.

From: Asus network - top brand, great features!

Hi everyone,

We are pleased to announce that Gainward 4850-512 Golden Sample and 4850-512 Custom Cover should be here on Mon onwards. rclxm9.gif

The delay is really worth it because Gainward 4850-512 Golden Sample has 2 fantastic features now: thumbup.gif

1. Overclocked Memory at 2200MHz+

2. Use Samsung 0.8ns hyperfast memory.

Most brands are using 1ns or slower memory. Just having Samsung 0.8ns memory alone is worth about RM50 extra!! drool.gif

Your wait will be over soon. Enjoy fantastic gaming experience with Gainward.

See the links below for more details. Thanks.

On reference design yes the card is hot. Mainly due to insuffficient cooling on the stock coolers lor. If possible get the non reference cards. Like that Gainward 4850 GS biggrin.gif. or maybe the HIS 4850 ICEQ4.
