QUOTE(Namqul @ Jul 7 2008, 09:45 PM) hmmm, since donald asked, im asking too. lol. im not much of a guitar player but for the past month, ive been looking around for a good acoustic guitar to settle down with. lol~ i went to bentley, tried out taylor's 112e if im not mistaken, but i dont dare to try the expensive one in the room. also have the chance to try takamine. visited guitar collection, tried some martin, seagull, and some other stuff. i also went to the guitar store and tried maton, and finally went to beatspot to try out some yamaha. and no buying yet. pity them. heres the question, im still wondering why is it that yamaha's cpx900 is the easiest to play with. anyone can explain this? If you would kindly state your budget. I too have tried many acoustic guitars, I'm not much of an acoustic player, but my friend is, so as an excuse to window shop I have tried a number of acoustic. You prefer dreadnoughts or smaller bodies like Grand Auditoriums/ Concerts or huge Jumbos? If your budget is bout 4000 I'd recommend Breedlove's Atlas series, available in SMX Solid Spruce top, Solid Indian Rosewood back, laminated rosewood sides If it's about 2500 I'd suggest a Martin 000X1, available in various places, such as Tonezone studios Solid Spruce top, laminated mahogany back/sides The Breedlove Atlas has a relatively bright sound, and very very rich harmonic tone. The Martin 000X1 is darker, though with the OM body, it's warm but has nice smooth highs. Less complex sounding than the Breedlove though, but that's a different guitar altogether. **posted here, cuz the other thread was suddenly suspended. |

Laminated back/sides tend to contain alot of glue since they're laminated, thus the glue absorbs some of the vibrations from the string, causing difference in tone (ie duller) and reducing some sustain. But if the guitar sounds good to your ears, plays good in your hands, does it really matter what others think ? Of course there's bragging rights lah, but then again, you can always brag my cheaper guitar sounds better than yours xD of course if that is the case lah =p My friend has this SX dreadnought, solid spruce top and laminated mahogany back/sides sounded alot better than many dreadnought guitars under 2k, namely some epiphone acoustics and art&lutherie, seagull, and quite a few others. And that guitar cost 450 MYR only =/ aik SMX closed on weekends d ar? nooooo T_T This post has been edited by sean392: Jul 8 2008, 01:12 AM |

Everdying, I've seen the AXL guitars in the Guitar Store Cheras a few months back, they have quite a number of models, including the Jacknife (with a very scarred scrathplate), selling at sligtly below RM900 if not mistaken. I really wants to get my hands on one of them since thay look knda cool and very cheap also.
Currently I'm in Brisbane and couldn't find any good deals at all |

Okay guys, my guitar has an active midsweep preamp (Jackson JE-1550), and I intend to remove it to convert the guitar to a fully passive setup, any idea who can I find for the job? Or even better hardwire a true bypass so it doesn't have to rely on batteries.

Unless I REALLY GAS on something big...... anyway, i wanna chip in on the issue of Duckie too. how "powerful" a 13 year old can be, forced us (and the drummers) to open new threads just because of him. and he dared to challenge us (especially the Mods - welcome EBP) on the banning. i dunno what's his intention but i'm getting soooooo freaking annoyed! this "budak hingusan" needs some serious lessons in life! duckie, with this kind of attitude, i dunno what u've been trying to prove coz u r not proving anything but just making urself looks silly & pathetic. and the worst part is, u r hurting the feelings of many & this is sinful (whatever ur religion is). when ppl start cursing u, u think God will like u? u think u'll live a blissful & peaceful life? think about it. respect others & i'm sure u'll get the same in return. u have a long way to go & it's never to late for u to realize & REPENT. i'm not preaching but just hope that u can be a human being & treat other human beings accordingly. i've been living in this world more than 2 & half of your age, been there done that! i'm sure ppl will appreciate if u ask for their forgiveness & prove that u've changed & grown-up. i know u have my HP no, just call me anytime (like u used to) if u wanna say anything at all. |

okay i know duckie did cause alot of issues here.
but lets move on with our guitar talk and feed our GAS shall we? i just got my guitar back yesterday as it needed some minor fixing. practice is tonight and ive always been gigging with 1 electric guitar with no backup. what makes a good back up guitar? any opinion/suggestion guys? nothing wrong with my les paul. i think its one of the most durable guitars and its setup doesnt run fast (unlike guitars with thin necks, floyd rose, etc). |

im sure u know by now thin necks dont necessarily make u play faster
if i was u, first thing is to send it to tham again and ask him check ur frets. if its levelled properly, u can set the action extremely low...cos i have done it on my epi LP before. and of cos a better backup would be something thats similar. no use adjusting in the middle to a different scale length body watever etc. |

oops. that came up wrong. what i meant was that a les paul is very stable, and its settings doesnt go off. unlike thin neck guitars with crazy weather it tends to bend easier, FR if your string breaks during a set theres no way you can continue finishing the song.
my les paul is setup really low and i got it refret recently. so ure suggesting another les paul? hmmm... WHY NOT? |

Would still take a Les Paul tone over the RGX |

A backup for a Les Paul? Of course an SG! I've always wanted one
Or maybe something like a DK2M but with a fixed bridge. Tried it the other day and it's a really great guitar. This post has been edited by quarantined: Jul 11 2008, 12:33 PM |

Ok, here goes:
Dead Eye: Yeah, the RR5FR played the best for me. Much better tone and feel than the other two. Maybe thats just because i'm more used to rosewood fretboards compared to maple and ebony. SweetTooth: RR24M (4.8k), RR5FR (4.8k), Demmelition V (4.9k)...IIRC. freakfingers12: Yeah, thats the new Bent. Haha, i go there quite often, 5 mins away from my place and i have a friend working there. blacktrix: This is the RR5FR, just released. Black hardware instead of gold, and an OFR instead of string thru. It even has a pink finish, crazily 80s look. This post has been edited by fatboythin: Jul 14 2008, 08:34 PM |

Yup, the neck-thru joint really makes it MUCH more easier to access the upper frets compared to the RR3.
And if anyone is interested, i could write a short (played all three for 10 mins each |

Ok. Got back from Guitar center. didn't buy anything except for the MXR Carbon Copy and Schaller tuners. No guitar. didn't find the one I wanted..... but trying another guitar store today, so keep your fingers crossed.
Lots of killer guitars and FINALLY got a chance to play a proper Gibson Zakk Wylde LP custom. It's pretty much similar to the Epi, but of course the added weight and the neck is just beautiful to play with. tempted to buy a Gibson LP Standard with 60s neck for USD 1599..... but decided to get the razorback 255 from singapore if there's nothing good. |

GRAB IT NOW. trust me u will regret it if u dont when u get back heck, even 2nd hand price here also its abit hard to get at that price now. and at that price means its still the old price. SG standard itself is already at USD1499, up USD150 from USD1349. LP std at the new price should be almost USD2k. This post has been edited by Everdying: Jul 16 2008, 10:31 PM |

it's a used one.... and the finish wasn't that fantastic.... THAT'S why. Besides, even though it's my DREAM to buy a proper Gibson Les Paul, I would love to have a guitar that I can look at everyday and still be impressed. This one, Really didn't stand out to me.

Might be going back tomorrow to drool abit more and MIGHT pick up the Krank Maximus Distortion pedal. If I go with my dad, maybe he'll be convinced to get me a Graduation present I also passed by a Vintage Guitar shop today. Drooled on a Black gibson Les Paul Custom and a few Rickenbacker guitars. Alot of vintage amps including a Boogie amp. Not Mesa/Boogie..... but a Boogie amp. Mostly acoustic guitars though. and welcome to the club Paramore.... hope you'll enjoy your stay! Hi all the guitar sifus and gurus... I'm looking to get a guitar usb interface because a conventional amp is too bulky. So I'm here to seek some sagely advice.
I just want something entry-level that works on Vista and has decent emulation. What should I be looking at? |

BANHAMMER FOR SWEETTOOTH!
Hahhaahhaa. But then again, it's Dragonforce. I don't care if it's sped up or whatever. It's still a killer song and at LEAST they can put on a pretty good show. And if you saw him live, you can almost believe he can play that fast. |

I am in love with the LOTR soundtrack. Hans Zimmer did the Da Vinci Code soundtrack too right? That was quite good too.

Yeap, but those MIJ Strats are quite hard to come by. Ebay is your best friend in this case.

Woo hoo! Free WiFi IN Disneyland Hotels! I'm in freakin' heaven right now!
Sorry EchoB, no Lamb of God DVD..... they only had the older Killadelphia one. But worry not! As I'm going to Europe in September, so will hopefully find it there. Will get the Dragonforce DVD if I can there too. But if I find it in LAX airport, will definitely get it there. Sorry again man. |

Alot of Hannah Montana and Camp Rock stuff going on.......... But one of the street performers had a BEAUTIFUL Gibson Hollow Body guitar. Will post pics when I can. Damn, the sales person damn celaka, see me using slippers think I'm some low class peasant. Anyway went to Mahogany to try my luck and they only had a D-28 and they are selling it for like RM12k++ WTF, it's only USD2.2k at guitar center US. Siao wan. Next time when I go to US again, I better bring my bro and father along so that they can carry 2 more guitars for me hehe. Purchasing guitars in Malaysia is completely unjustifiable unless you're damn rich or you're only buying a mid-low range guitar. |

Sorry to hear that echo..... my the gods of guitars bless your wallet to feed your GAS soon.....
Reporting in from Taipei airport and should be hitting Malaysian soil in about 5 to 6 hours time. And luckily I didn't bring back a guitar. MAS airlines in LA had a VERY STRICT policy of only 1 hand luggage and no exceptions. I saw some poor guy's guitar had to be checked in (An acoustic in a really crappy gig bag no less) and it's probably going to be in splinters when it comes back home. Oh well....... at least I can look forward to my Razorback 255 from Singapore soon! |

Will do. I would definitely want to test that out too.
Oh yeah, I WILL have to censor out some of your words. Remember the Bman incident? Please change or the whole message will be deleted. Also, I just came back from Spruce guitars. Just placed an Order for the Razorback 255 in Dime Slime Oh and if you're interested, The Dean Trivium's are NOT coming in, but they are getting in the Mustaine Angel of Death, some Razorbacks and the MLs. They are not bringing in any other accessories, including the new Dean Pickups, but if you want anything, they can order it in for you....... for a price. |

I might, but I already have so many EMG equipped guitars which I love the tone so much, I don't find a need to change. Heck, I'm getting another pair of EMG 81/85 that I don't even NEED at the moment...... but just like to keep around. Might swap them into a Gibson Les Paul Standard IF I ever get one.
But as for the blackouts, unless I buy a guitar that's already equipped, I don't think I'll get a pair JUST to try out the sound. |

Grats on your guitar man, but a minor correction, if you order something along with their shipments it's at no additional charge. they usually place shipments around every 3 months. But if you want it quick they can fly it in by air freight and thats the one that will cost extra.Oh yeah, I WILL have to censor out some of your words. Remember the Bman incident? If it's PAFs, of course I'll keep them in. But if it's Burstbuckers, I'll probably play around with it for awhile, and if I like it, I'll keep 'em. If not, In comes the EMGs.
Another tempting option is getting a cheaper Gibson Les Paul Classic or Studio and whacking in the EMGs. |

But the headstock a little too fat and not proportionate to the body...... so made it look weird.
But I wonder if there is any way to add a whammy to the guitar......... |

the whammy bar can be added no prob...whether it will stay in tune or not is another matter cos its a short scale so the strings have very little pull.

guys, with a FR, is it gonna be difficult to change tuning by one whole step? would i need to loosen the nuts at the neck and all before i change the tuning?

Well, it would be a lot more hassle than a hardtail. Normally if you change tunings a lot, its best to get either two axes with different tunings or a hardtail. Although after a while you will get used to changing tunings on trems, but it still would be an unnecessary chore.

S series is SUPPOSEDLY easier to change the strings, what with it's lock at the base (The very excellent ZR-Trem)....... but that is only useful if you already KNOW how to change a standard FR.
Actually, I can't really say much on the matter because I'm having the hardest time changing the strings on MY RR3..... On a related note, sending my RR3 to get the bridge re-setup (changing to Dunlop Zakk Wylde standard .010-.46) and fix in straploks, while my LP-100 is going to be sent to JS Music to change the tuners to the Schallers I bought from Guitar Center, change the strings, adjust the bridge (it buzzes a little) and also get the wiring fixed for the EMGs. Tempted to throw in an afterburner switch....... but we'll see how. |

That's one thing i don't get though. Why the steep difference in price between the RR3 and RR5FR? Both MIJ Pro Series, both 22 frets, both same SD pickups. The only diff is the neckthru and OFR on the RR5FR. But i don't think that costs like RM3k more.
Or am i missing anything? |

er, right now, priority is a semi-hollow, or P-90 guitar (Like the BFG).
Shredding guitar is already done, so back to a tone guitar. |

SkylineFreak - GC generally jack up their prices quite a bit, not worth getting it from there. For LTDs, just PM DeadEye, he gives good prices. And also, GC aren't the most knowledgeable/honest dealers around. My friend bought an ESP M-II from them 2 months ago, they said it was 2007 model and had SD JB/59 pickups. But after he traced the serial number last week and e-mailed ESP, they said it was i think either a 3-4 year old model and had stock ESP LH-300 pickups. Needless to say, things between him and GC Sunway Pyramid are getting quite rough.

eh?
haven't even got to the good part yet its MIJ, its for the UK market, sure there are differences in the headstock I'm not sure wat model is it, cause i seldom look at custom models but from what i know, custom models might not have a maple cap, IE an all mahogany body but if it does have a maple cap, it'll have a cap lah, tone wise, only if you're an absolute tone-wh*** you'd be able to tell the differences in the higher registers else they both sound great. You might wanna try out the neck, this should follow a Gibson 50's neck quite closely, having quite a thick neck and an even thicker neck joint. but it's quite a good guitar. I don't see fret edge bindings, and the truss rod cover, so i'd guess it's an early 90's tokai LC-60 genereal specs would be all mahogany body and rosewood fingerboard should be a great guitar, tokai makes very very good lp copies |

the original 50s gibson LP customs didnt have maple caps.
the LP that LP himself prefers and plays also doesnt have any maple cap. if not mistaken, the custom shop '57 reissue LP custom also doesnt have a maple cap. |

mahogany is lighter than maple.
iirc, at the very early beginning gibson at first was messing around the idea of a full maple LP...but realised was too friggin heavy...so they made the maple thinner and used mahogany to bring the body to the thickness they wanted. |

yeah i know
maple is shi- heavy iirc, gibson wanted to do a solid maple guitar with a mahogany cap reversed, that's what i recall reading lah =/ actually i think its the thick maple cap that makes the lps weight "unbearable" =p |

Blacky:
RM6k for the 255? I think you got ripped off? IIRC, the last time I checked them out at Music Theme, they were only SGD2k, slightly less than RM5k... This post has been edited by Rossie: Jul 31 2008, 09:43 AM |

QUOTE(Everdying @ Jul 31 2008, 12:01 AM) see, sometimes its easier to have a certain model all looking like plain janes...like all SG '61 reissues. me too finding for THE ONE.... -.-i had a LP std before...but you ALWAYS keep looking around and see 'that flame is nicer la', 'that color is nicer la'... LP owners are never satisfied until they think they get THE ONE...but it is never THE ONE...cos there will always be another with prettier flame etc |

Trivium fans, you better head here: http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/shogun/index.aspx
Download their latest single, Kirsute Gomen. It's only open for 10 hours more, so quickly download it! Lots of classic Trivium growling lyrics blended with his new singing voice, metallica-ish riffs (ala Crusade) and then nice melody (ala Ascendancy) in the middle. If this is any indication of the new album, it seems like the blended the best of both album type! Good job! |

Namqul, just start with a good entry level. I started with an admira malaga many years ago, maybe 6 - 7 years, it lasted me until now, and i never NEED to change to upgrade to another guitar although i do GAS for it.. lol
I ve never regretted that purchase, its a good buy for me. |

hmm..was wondering, is a flame maple top only for looks or will it influence sound as well?
i understand that maple has a brighter sound, so when coupled with a mahogany body, will it produce a slightly brighter sound as compared to a mahogany only body? trying to decide between an S670 and S470.. only diff i see is one has FM, one doesn't |

Should be around the same price as the Razorback 255.......
MSRP:$1,689 w/ Dean hardshell case MSRP is usually reduced a few hundred bucks for street price. |

You're a little late to hear the Peavey's hehbut finding a brand new 5150 is bout as rare as finding restaurant having roasted dodo for a dinner set. 6505 may be possible though. But you're lucky, Bugera amps have arrived in malaysia, and they are basically clones of most peavey amps, the XXX, 5150 and 6505 are few they "cloned". To identify them, pay attention to their model number orientation. 5150 = 6260 something like that, and IIRC the bugera 6260 is supposed to be the 5150 copy. There's a shop in KL which carries them, but can't recall it on such a short notice, perhaps someone would fill this later. heh good luck |

Er, the Trivium guitars are probably MIK (like where their Razorback 255 is made). And it's THAT cheap:
http://news.harmony-central.com/Newp/2008/...ure-Models.html http://www.gearhounds.com/index.asp?PageAc...PROD&ProdID=592 And I Have tried the ML a few years back. Found the tone pretty much like an explorer, but a bit more "fat" to it. Razorback is heavy and all out brutal... also the body is MUCH bigger. I think the Bugera's are in a shop in Cheras, can't really recall where exactly. Its named AEV or AVE Electronics or something like that, not too sure. Also, i just went to Bents Mutiara and played the Demmel AGAIN. Didn't realise it was extremely light. And they sold off the RR5FR and one Demmel. Now there is only ONE Demmel and ONE RR24M left in stock. So anyone interested in them better act fast! Haha.

Dude, the only way they are goin to bring it in is if they know there is a demand for it. Just go by their showroom/call/e-mail them a few times and inquire about it. Ask your friends to join in too, haha. Thats what i did. But when they finally brought it in, i'm broke because i just spent my cash on doing up my car.

Hey people, I'm now in the market for a 2nd electric and having a wee problem deciding which to get.
Firstly I mostly play rock (heavy stuffs) but do also play on clean. I have two axes in mind, the S520EX and AX-50. Clearly the AX-50 is cheaper but then I can swap out pups to either EMG H4s or H4As which comes total quite cheaper or same price as the S520EX with stock pups. The reason I picked H4s or H4As as to 81s or 85s is because they are passive and do not need a battery for which I think is cost effective for me. Aside from that, both axes are Indonesian and the ESP has a fixed bridge not tremelo while the S520EX does. The tremelo difference might or might not affect my decision because I currently do not utilise it at all due to the fact my current axe has a single way unlocked bridge so I'm not sure whether will I should factor this into my decision or not. Any advices? How are the H4 and H4A pups? Any differences between the two? |

Get the S series, its def better than the LTD. But if you aren't using the trem a lot or if you change tuning often, the trem might be quite a hassle. And passive EMGs aren't really good. If you want to stick with passives on the LTD, better you go with a pair of SD or DiMarzio pickups instead. But IMO, the S would be a better choice by a mile.

What is your budget then? And also, what kind of music/bands do you play? Maybe we could recommend some axes in that price range which would be good choices.

the S520 is actually twice tha price that of the LTD Ax-50
another difference between the 2 guitars are, 22 and 24 frets. LTD have 24 frets while the S series has only 22 frets. some of the guys would consider this to be a real headache (esp when it comes to RR3 and Alexi-200) anyway, Ibanez S-520 is worth it for the price, for 3 piece wizard II neck and Mahagony body |

Also, cost effective of the Battery? Not really. Depends on how often/long you play. Swap out the battery every say 4-6 months on average playing.....
Means your spending 20-40 bucks A YEAR for batteries. But if you're looking for a guitar that's around RM2200 (I assume that's the budget, judging from a cost of a S520) that's made for Metal, why not just go for the RG series? The RG350, RG370 or heck, just throw in abit extra for an RG1570...... Definitely more shreddable and a much gnarlier (for lack of a better term) guitar. |

True, but the prob with the RGs in that price range is the Edge III trem, i should know. Since you are new to trems, the Edge III would be quite a headache at first, though you could get used to it after a while.
If you want an RG at that price range, get a hardtail. If you want an S, then one with a trem would be ok since they have the Edge Zero IIRC. But as trix said, best you save up and get an RG Prestige! |

My budget would be around 2.6k and I play music ranging from Metal (Metallica/Slipknot/Children of Bodom/Nightwish etc etc) to Heavy Rock (Creed/Alter Bridge) to Clean (Strumming Acoustic songs and stuff)
But basically I want to focus on crunchyness in distortion for mutes which maintaining an acceptable sound for clean stuff. My budget will be around the S520EX's price which currently I have a special deal for RM2.5k + a hardcase. |

S520 is almost as good as the prestige, since its made in korea. MIK ibanez guitars such as the RGT6ex are way much difference from the RG300 series which are indonesia made. though wood and all may be the same, the workmanship and probably the grade of the wood is different. S series prestige is costly, unlike the RG1570 prestige

Well, thats a really good price especially with the hardcase. But you might find the 22 frets limiting if you want to play songs by those bands, especially COB.

So in the end the S520EX with stock pups is a better choice than the AX-50 with EMGs? (this time with 81s or 85s since blacktrix said the cost is negligible)

Agreed. I didn't know how important 24 frets were to bands like COB and Dragonforce......
but anyways, the S520 is using the ZR-Trem, NOT the Edge Zero trem. But it's still a semi-floating trem and tuning it is still a b***h. To me honestly, the S520, as big of an S guitar as I am..... isn't THAT spectacular. Right now, the only S for me is the new S5470 Prestige (around 4-5k) and of course, the Egen. You just can't get much tone from the standard pups of the S. Also, 22 frets vs 24 frets man! |

QUOTE(fatboythin @ Aug 3 2008, 04:57 PM) I think the Bugera's are in a shop in Cheras, can't really recall where exactly. Haha. I asked GC Midvalley, for now they have only Hammet's signature model in stocktrix- Did you find out whether GC stocks the RG50TC? They might have more models on the next shipment, but he doesn't know yet. He also said it's possible for them to order in for you. Added on August 3, 2008, 7:51 pm QUOTE(blacktrix @ Aug 3 2008, 06:40 PM) Also, cost effective of the Battery? Not really. Depends on how often/long you play. Swap out the battery every say 4-6 months on average playing..... You kidding? The 1570 bents has is MII and has a 3k+ pricetagMeans your spending 20-40 bucks A YEAR for batteries. But if you're looking for a guitar that's around RM2200 (I assume that's the budget, judging from a cost of a S520) that's made for Metal, why not just go for the RG series? The RG350, RG370 or heck, just throw in abit extra for an RG1570...... Definitely more shreddable and a much gnarlier (for lack of a better term) guitar. unless its an MIJ 1570 or heck 1550 <<<<<< 1550 ALL MAPLE NECK FTW then 3k probably can justify its pricetag Added on August 3, 2008, 8:04 pm QUOTE(ffrulz @ Aug 3 2008, 07:29 PM) What you want. New v Old. Brand. Strictly Ibanez? budget 2.6k right? I'll give you a few pointers bout the Ibanez guitars in discussion here Ibanez S470 Price tag = 2.3K+ MYR Plus sides = S-series uses ZR-tremolo bridges, instead of knife edges, they have fixated ball bearing anchor. They are much smooth when you dive or pull up. Also, since it's using bearings, they have a lot less friction so they wear quite well. S-series is also very light because of the ultra thin mahogany body. MIK ones seems pretty well built, never touched MII ones. AANJ plays and feels close to a NTB guitar. Negative is S-series uses horrid mahogany, they sound very basswood like, with little richness in tone. It's alright if you were to slap in some EMG, it'll sound nearly the same on all guitars anyway. S-series also only has 22 frets, putting you at a disadvantage if you were to play COB neoclassical runs. Biased negative views = Wizard necks, overly flat fretboard radius. Ibanez RG3xx Price tag = 1.7-1.8K MYR Plus sides - Weight, despite thicker body, the use of basswood makes it light. 24 frets. AANJ plays and feels really good. Looks good with mirror finish pickguard (assuming some of the 3xx series has pickguards =p). Negatives - Edge III trem, knife edges are very weak, expect it to not hold your tunings very well, and for it to show wear very early. Hefty pricetag for a guitar of this quality (No offense to Ibanez owners n fans) Ibanez RG1570 Plus - Edge Pro I/II bridge, a very good tremolo bridge. Light, 24 frets, you heard it all b4. Negatives - Severely overpriced for MII ones. SOLUTION TO YOUR PROBLEM Get a second hand MIJ Jackson =p Gappy you got any? This post has been edited by sean392: Aug 3 2008, 08:06 PM |

You are now my enemy! Haha, jk man. But seriously, if you want something good at that price range, best you go used or sacrifice the 2 frets and get the S520EX. Also, i saw this new neckthru Ibanez with mahogany body and EMG81/85 pickups at Bents. Its a hardtail though, and below 3k IIRC. Should be a good choice if you want to sacrifice the trem for the 2 extra frets and active pickups instead. If not, you better save up 1-2k more to get a really good guitar. ESPs, erm, i mean, LTDs at that price aren't worth it.sean392- Thanks for the Randall info man. |

i myself am using an ltd ax-50 with emg hz's in them and im pretty satisfied with it. i think a big part of your sound comes from your amp, not just your guitar(very debatable subject).
about the 22/24 fret thing, i think its more of getting used to rather than playing with the extra 2 frets. how many songs actually go up to the 23rd or 24th fret? its more of a preference because if you're used to playing with 24 frets(like me), you'll find it awkward with the different fret positions on the 22 frets because the position of the 12th fret will be closer to the body of the guitar. and yes dead eye, the 22/24 frets problem with the rr3 and alexi 200 still giving me headaches till this day |

Are you sure? I don't think there are MII Prestiges, hence PRESTIGE. Unless Ibanez want to intentionally throw away the reputation of their Prestige line.

the new RG1570 is MIJ, and yes price i above RM3k. well blacktrix isnt wrong when comparing the S520 with RG1570. RM2.5 + hardcase and RM3k + hardcase, RM500 different for a prestige, i mean its not a small amount, but considerable.
and the emg81/85 neck thru which fatboythin mentioned would be the RGT6ex FX, neck thru and MIK. |

Basically below 3-4k, Ibanez or Jacksons would be your best bet unless you go used. Just save up and inform us of your max budget, then we can look into things. Good luck.

Yuppers. I did say to throw in some extra for the RG1570...... Although my original price point for the Ibanez was about RM2200 for the S and about RM2800 for the RG Pres.... But still..... I was alluding to the fact that maybe he should save up a bit more (since his budget is already RM2500) and get a much much better guitar.
And good luck on your guitar quest man! |

Try 3.5-4k, you should be able to haggle down the price of a few RG Prestiges to below that if you're lucky. My friend managed to haggle and got an RG2550Z with hardcase for only 3.4k at Bents last Friday.

Best would definitely be a acoustic. But if you want to play acoustic songs on a Strat once in a while, it should be no problem since they have great cleans anyway.

Darn it! If I can get it for under 1.5k, will think about it next year. At the moment, cash ran out for my guitar fund. Have to save up for Japan in January...........
Speaking of which........ might just pick up a cheap Jap guitar. Maybe an Ibanez? Maybe a Caprison? Who knows!!!! Yes.......... this guitar thing is an addiction. |

Haha, quite true. But he has the money to spend, so it doesn't bother him. Darn, Jackson Stars RR-J2SP is sold out, and now i have GAS for a Jackson Stars RR-TN02EMG. Wanted the RR24, but this seems like a better deal because its a little cheaper even after shipping (before customs though), and has 24 frets, white binding and a neck pickup. I hate GAS.
![]() And what is the Japanese obsession with dual EMG 81s? Jackson Stars and Edwards/ESP both have dual EMG 81s on most of their axes. This post has been edited by fatboythin: Aug 6 2008, 06:13 PM |

Actually Jackson pickups aren't half bad =/ I actually prefer the J-95 over a duncan SH4 [JB] for chord work, but for lead play, the JB cuts through better partly because of the equalization of the SH4 =/ but the J95 sounds wayyyyyy heavier =/ Maybe thats y alexi used the j90c b4 jumping to h4+afterburner and now on blackouts =p QUOTE(gapnap @ Aug 6 2008, 01:44 AM) harbinger not the only dood w/ capalison leh =pbut dang lah, caparison dam nice u think a jackson stars soloist can match it? Haha, you made one mistake sean392. Alexi used a J-50BC pickup & JE-1000 gainboost in his Wildchild and Stone axes. The Jackson pickup was quite nice sounding for leads, but it just didn't cut it for rhythm. Yea, now i sound like a total fanboy.
But that aside, if the guitar is coming stock with EMGs, it would be a lot better if they had a 81/85, or better yet 81/60 set instead of dual 81s. I guess thats the only flaw of most Japanese axes. This post has been edited by fatboythin: Aug 6 2008, 09:08 PM |

ah yes!!!! j-50bc
yeap yeap, dang too many too numbers to remember heh i'm an alexi fan too =p funny the J95 is like upside down of the j50bc =/ 85/60 combo would be nice for emgs IMO i tried an 81 b4 in a jackson kelly its like an extra sweet donut dipped in condensed milk ultra trebley =p the 85 on the neck was alot warmer, despite being very fuzzy << really high gain |

Yea, i heard that the 85 would be more suitable in the neck position for alder bodies because the 81 would sound too trebley. But i haven't been able to try out any axes with this configuration, so i can't really tell for sure whether its really much better.

I just got my Lp-100 back from Eng at JS Music after a MAJOR overhaul.
Finally got the electronics fixed, screws replaced, installed Schaller tuners (had to widen the holes though), Intonation reset, string changed and Straplok installed. It now sounds like a whole new guitar. Totally worth every single cent I paid (RM 160, but Most of that was for the intonation setup). Seriously recommend Eng if you need to service/repair your guitar. |

Yea, i prefer an RR shape and the Demmel can't compete with the Jackson Stars' quality. I was quoted RM4.8k including shipping and a softcase. Pretty good deal IMO since the Demmel/RR24 are slightly more expensive and aren't the same quality as the Jackson Stars.
Have a look at this website: http://www.guitarjapan.com/jackson/index.html You can also e-mail them for quotes or any extra info and they'll usually reply within 24 hours. |

Its the replacement for the RR-J2. The ones on that site are the old models, almost the same price and specs as the 2008 models as the RR-TN02EMG above.
Here is the Jackson Stars site: http://www.jacksonstars.com/ Click on the pdf. banner on the bottom left to view the 2008 catalog. |

to those RR lovers yeah
ash sounds quite different from alder so be sure you try them first ash woods mids is very complex to the point it can get muddy especially if you play with a lot of mids on the amp so be sure to try them close to your amp settings first **this is my personal opinion, take with large pinches of salt! |

Do you guys know which shop is best to sell my guitars? Not to brag, but some can be quite expensive
I've given up on selling online in forums and stuff. All the lowballers T.T |

The RR-J2SP is definitely not available anymore. Although its been discontinues for quite a while, Ishibashi had a few units left in June. But i got an e-mail from them last week saying its all sold. Haven't found anything on eBay either.
I think you should go for the RR-TN02, better choice compared to the Demmel and RR24. And when you get it, i want to play it! EDIT: Also, whats with everyone and the sudden craze with Jackson Stars? Did i cause it? Haha. This post has been edited by fatboythin: Aug 7 2008, 06:34 PM |

Well, from the shop, no, if you do it yourself it's possible, but will cost you some money. Added on August 7, 2008, 8:11 pmtrying to make a copy of the rr-j2sp =p Not a really worthy investment IMO. |

Don't bother, it would be a lot of hassle, and cost a LOT of money. Not to mention its quite hard to find gold OFRs here. Had that thought too, but then i realised it wasn't really a good idea. |

Nice guitar, quite a good deal at the specs. Where is The Guitar Store again?
Btw, how different are P-90s from typical singlecoil pickups? Oh yeah, I just bought a set of Grover tuner heads from gapnap. I changed them and they actually fit. Not like Woh Fark.... Woh Fark conned my money somemore by selling me Grovers that doesn't fit and gapnap sells them cheaper than Woh Fark. gapnap is a great seller. You can trust him more than anything else, unless he cons you (which is impossible). Thanks again, gapnap! This post has been edited by SkylineFreak: Aug 8 2008, 11:57 PM |

the closest guitar store in PJ is d'sara perdana.
actual P-90s you can do real dirty blues ala SRV. the P-90s in that axl guitar are passive EMG designed tho, so pretty hot and not really like classic P-90s. |
