Added on June 19, 2009, 5:47 pmspinel: how old is he? Is he dropping excessive quills? As in drop quills until got some bald patches?

he might be just quilling. a process of changing old quills into new quills

Hello guys,
i have a little problem,
every night i give my hedgy 5-7 mealworms that i got from fish store,
she seems happy then run2 around play with wheel and things.
but 3 days ago i run out of worms and the shop is closed, then she dont
eat worms anymore and become like unhappy, seldom run on her wheel..
is this normal, and how much do u guys usually feed ur hedgy mealworms? every night? or just as treats?

5-7 mealies is a lot.......

i usually give once or twice per week...every time around 3-5 mealies..

If u give daily..i think 2-3 max is more than enuf... eating too much mealies not really good for them too...

I fill a plastic container with water until about 1.5cm to 2cm high.. put a few drops of shampoo then put her inside and brush her quills with toothbrush.. She was good.. Didn't spike up her quills.. Hehe rclxms.gif

Does anyone use wood bedding for hedgehog? I want to know it.
Because my hedgehog suddently get injure again.. cry.gif
my cage just a big storage box, wood bedding, big wheel and 1 huge plastic water pipe.
I no idea which item will make my hedgehog leg injure like something cut on skin which is on the top of the leg, near stomach there ( somewhere near the stomach join the leg there )

Is it the wood bedding? No item will sharp, i have check it last time my hedgehog get injure, those wheel, water pipe all smooth on edge.

wood shaving from chipy. Apple smell that 1 ....
but eric138, I saw your cage is use cloth to cover, but if pee and poo still ok ah? Or you change it every week ?
I feel cloth is better than wood bedding, because those wood bedding will stick on hedgehog when the wood shaving just get wet.....

for male hedgie, i don really recommend u use chipsi. Becoz after he poo the bedding will stick on his private part... and it may cause infection.

So i still suggest u go for Back2Nature or BreederCelect.

I am using fleece as bedding... And my Kenken is toilet trained. I wash the fleece once a week. biggrin.gif

Scented bedding is not really good for animals' respiratory system.. The apple/watsoever smel is jus made to favors human... T-T

Is ok la if u swap like tat... The paper pellet is safe for animals, but of course if ur hedgie swallow it then it's not good too la... But my hedgie are fine with it, my toilet tray also using BC...

I think kinda lot ppl using BC here too..

U can try Back2nature, it's the same with BC, but softer..so it's better for their foot... biggrin.gif

I bought my bedding at PetShack too.
