hmm.. don't see any quills dropping yet... hopefully it's nothing serious... yesterday when i brought Pepper home, she was quite active... roam around her cage and use the wheel... today she seems not so active... keep sleeping.. just now walk a while in the wheel, then go to sleep again...

BUT! i manage to pick her up today!! Yay! But now my palm feels pokey and itchy...haha.... still cannot manage to take picture of her ears for you guys to see if there is anything wrong... the environment too dark.. don't want to use flash in case the flash scare her...

Do you guys use flash when taking picture of your hedgie??

if your hedgie is scratching alot, it might be mites. better observe carefully and bring to a vet for check up. where did you get your hedgie from?

Young hedgie will tend to sleep more even at nite, so don worry.

Dandruff u nid to see whether got skin flakes or not.. But i don think such a young hoglet will have dried skin problem..

I never use flash to take any pic of my pets, unless they are not facing me and looking at the camera. Usually i jus on the room light and capture.

There's few things I would like to share with you all....

A young hedgehog, when change homes and owners, will tend to sleep more when they realized the environment changed.
So yea, it's normal if they sleep all the time for the first 2 weeks. Give them time. They will slowly get use to your smell as well as the environment.

2nd, avoid using flash with taking pictures with ALL animals. biggrin.gif It's not just hedgehog, but the strong flash light will annoys animals' eyes. Making them uncomfortable. Flash that is too strong can cause their eyes to become blind oso. ^^

3rd, i see you mentioned ur hedgie's ears are "crusty". Is it something like white flakes coming off from the skin?
If yes, then it could be 2 posibilities. 1 is dry skin problem. A hedgehog with dry skin problems will scratch very often.
Another one is mites. Mites cause hedgehog to scratch alot. But it MIGHT also cause dry skin problems. (Not all dry skin is caused by mites). And a hedgehog that scratch too much will make their skin "flaky" oso.

skin problems will show signs behind the ear as well as on the feet.

So it's best you bring ur hedghog to a vet for checkup. ^^
