No rules, but I can agree with iamsobloodysick. No point using an elite BDP if you use a cap ayam TV.
KRP600M, Home Theatre Blu ray players: Recommendations please, Blu ray players, which one ?

QUOTE(jchong @ Jul 30 2009, 01:14 AM) Yikes, didn't know the usb charger can do that! Which exact one did you buy? Got a picture? [attachmentid=1108915]I also bought a usb charger recently to power the 'notebook fan' for my AVR. Hope it's not the same one as yours. [attachmentid=1108917] [attachmentid=1108919] It looks ok from outside but inside already like a rattle toy So a word of advice....never use the switched power outlet behind your AVR for USB charger. You'll never know when it strikes |

QUOTE(arremie @ Jul 30 2009, 12:21 PM) All my cables are concealed cables, and that has to be done during renovation. I've forgotten to include a cable for the center speaker during renovation. It was a rookie mistake and I'm not that bright, I know. Of course I can add a center speaker now but that wouldn't look nice at all because of the dangling wire. |

But wouldn't you be missing out on a lot due to the lack of the center speaker? The center is regarded as one of the most important speakers for HT. Since you have all the nice ingredients for a good HT setup, it seems odd that one key ingredient is missing.Of course I can add a center speaker now but that wouldn't look nice at all because of the dangling wire. Anyway, no way now to lay the center cable? How about using flat cable (which by itself is easier to conceal) and cover with conduit or some other material? |

There are amps out there than can put out a Virtual Centre speaker, the only problem is that you would have to pre-out the 3 channels to the amp and there will be cables to conceal as well.... And it would be a true waste of your Z11 potential.Of course I can add a center speaker now but that wouldn't look nice at all because of the dangling wire. |

QUOTE(Ngto @ Jul 30 2009, 11:15 AM) Confirmed, region free for DVD. Sorry, Back to blu-ray player..My opinion on DVD upscale quality at 720P/1080i .... Its BAD. I read eviews that the BD60 DVD upscale is 'Amazing' , 'Excellent', and so on, but what I found was the Opposite. My 3 year old Sony DVD 720P upscaler is so much sharper and cleaner and also with better colour production than the BD60. Can't comment on 1080P upscale Quality though because I don't have a 1080P TV. As for Blu-ray quality it's as expected of a Blu-ray player. One last thing, don't play those movies on 25GB Blu-ray (BD-R) which are on sale now. Out of curiousity I tried 4 of them and 2 couldn't play on this player. The PS3 Display set at one shop I tried (don't know how many months they have used it already) could play all 4 I thought by default, BD60 upscales to 1080p. I wasn't aware it can upscale to 'only' 720p/1080i. Like I said before, I'm surprised that it can play R1 DVD. So my guess is that local BD60s are region free. Unfortunately I don't have any R2 DVD to test. Now the PQ depends on the source itself. From my own experience, few titles can net good result like R1 Star Wars II, R1 LOTR trilogy extd version, R1 Private ryan, R3 Band of Brothers, R1 Magnolia & R3 Monster Inc. But others like R1 Aliens, R3 The Matrix, R1 Braveheart and R1 Last of the Mohicans didn't quite cut it. The last of the Mohicans is the worst. Those two black bars on the right & left are just dem annoying. |

You should really read my whole post Anyway I compared the same DVDs on both my OLD Sony 720P/1080i upscaler and this Panasonic BD60 upscaling at 720/1080i only, that's why I said the BD60 was bad. I wouldn't have said that if I didn't compare like with like This post has been edited by Ngto: Jul 30 2009, 08:09 PM |

QUOTE(arremie @ Jul 30 2009, 06:37 PM) Yes correct. I've checked my setting, the upscaling is set to auto. In auto mode it will output the best resolution which can be supported by the display panel. I'm using HDMI & my tv is 1080p capable, hence all my video signals were upscaled to 1080p by default.Maybe I didn't make myself clear. Ngto tested at 720p/1080i only and I understand his tv's limitation. All I'm saying is that it's not a fair test for BD60 true capability. |

QUOTE(hsiengloong @ Jul 31 2009, 08:31 AM) hi,I hope you know that it is not regionfree out of the box. The Dune 1st version was made region free by a firmware hack. It will probably come soon, but it will take some time for the guys to enable that option.... Other than that enjoy the set.... |

Yeah i read that in the AVS forum. There will be a hack to make it region free in probably few months time.
Actually, my main purpose of getting this is because of the Media player function. The blu ray is secondary as of now because i have yet to venture into blu ray (no budget). I nearly got the Dvico until i saw this. Very worth it IMHO, a 2-in-1 BD & Media player! Thanks for all your advice! |

I'm still waiting for the shipping cost from them. I don't think it will be expensive as its only a player...
FYI, tthey use both UPS & US Postal (I forgot the actual name but i think this other service is stg like Pos Malaysia or Pos Laju)... I think in SG its a bit overpriced at S$899 which totals up to around RM2.2k - RM2.3k ... The good side is, you can always send back for warranty but mine would be a hassle |
