Just wanna ask, how good is the PQ on PS3 compared to some of these blu ray players?
In the past it was said PS3 is one of the best blu ray players. Is that still true nowadays?

QUOTE(anfieldude @ May 6 2009, 11:32 AM) Yup, that's the price I got it at. Yes, it is region locked for DVD and plays region 1 and region 0 discs. I believe there will be soon aftermarket mods to make it region free. Anyway, it plays SACD and DVD-A, so lets see if it all that good. Will compare all this and BD playback when I receive it. Compared to PS3 and Pioneer DV-600 (for SACD). You'll be getting it shipped direct from USA or via Singapore? Looking forward to seeing your review of the Oppo.

QUOTE(htkaki @ May 20 2009, 11:13 PM) Since it is quite late, I managed to test TDK BD with it. Fiddle with the setup of BD60. Chosen 'normal start' mode. Pop in BD. Takes abt 26 seconds to load. Tmw, will try fast mode. Chapter 2. The moment it starts. I can see the difference instantly as compare to my PS3. The picture is so much better in contrast and details. I can see more details now. Colour tone is quite good too. Anyway, will calibrate to get the most out of it. On AQ, 1800 displayed Dolby True HD. The audio is far superior than PS3. This time, the bass is better. Even the vocal is better too. One thing that I like about it is the surround steering. Nicely done with clarity. This weekend, I am going to test out more. I was just about to ask about PS3 vs dedicated BD player, then I read the posts over the last 24 hours. Wah, the PQ and AQ of BD60 that much better? Aiyoh, what am I going to do with my PS3 then? Hands itchy to upgrade now...

QUOTE(anfieldude @ May 23 2009, 12:17 PM) Good for you guys. Anyway, when I get the chance I would really like to calibrate a HD65 from a PS3 and a HD65 to a BD60. Need to arrange a trip to KL soon. I am happy with the "pop" that the PS3 gives on my Pioneer. Need to see if the Oppo is any better. Hope you can make a side trip to Ipoh Then you can try calibrating a PS3 and BD60 to an AE3000.

QUOTE(anfieldude @ Jun 4 2009, 04:52 PM) Missed this before. The PS3 uses its own Sony Cell Processor to do the video processing. Something similar to Panasonic's Uniphier but I believe more powerful. I believe if Sony wants they can improve the video processing algorithms in the Cell Processor, but that would kill their high end products ie, BD players...less money for them then. Sony can actually do more with the PS3 than they are doing now. Didn't realize the Cell Processor is so powerful. It would be good to see how far it can go if Sony would tweak it to the max. But yeah, that would conflict with their high end products. Do you know if any other Sony player uses the Cell Processor?

Wow, interesting player. I just googled it and it is not only a disc player but also is a media server. Found a detailed review of it here: http://www.mpcclub.com/modules/Reviews/rev...di_bd_prime.pdfWhere did you buy it from mpyw?

I think the new firmware 1.7 improves the playability of certain movies that used to freeze.

Yeah, HDI is from Israel. But I suspect the player is outsourced to China for mfg (what isn't nowadays ).

I updated my BD60 straightaway after getting it. So cannot compare between 1.5 vs 1.7 firmware. However, I doubt there is any PQ/AQ difference, the firmware was more to address disc compatibility/playability issues I think.

QUOTE(nakata101 @ Jun 17 2009, 11:18 AM) Just bought the BD60 not more than 1 month i think, now the price of BD80 already drop till the price which i get the BD60.... this feeling is damn @#$%@#@. You're referring to jmdibr who bought the BD80 at 1.5k right? He bought from US that's why cheaper, but note no local warranty and must buy transformer because US stuff operates on 110V.

QUOTE(htkaki @ Jun 19 2009, 02:55 PM) I want to know whether PCM and bistream does make a difference PCM is when player does decoding right? Whereas bitstream means receiver does decoding? Then it depends which has better decoding ability... This post has been edited by jchong: Jun 20 2009, 10:23 AM

QUOTE(megatron007 @ Jun 21 2009, 11:37 PM) finally got the time to watch my long collecting dust valkerie BD the final credit part got about 2-3 sec freeze this is 1st time to the BD-60 I read about the freezing issue on overseas forums, but this is the first time on local forum. So far I've not had any freezes (only played about 8-10 BDs) but I have noticed that sometimes when I play a disc, around the beginning there's a slight 'blackout'. i.e. the image goes black for a split second then resumes - it's not a freeze because I can still hear audio. Normally happens one time only, if I rewind and play again then no such blackout. I wonder if it's some kind of handshaking issue

QUOTE(maxon lee @ Jun 22 2009, 01:13 PM) in my shop ,PANASONIC BLUE-RAY PLAYER (PANA-BD60 ) IS SELLING FOR RM 1259.00 NOW ...CASH PRICE .... Price of the BD60 sure is coming down fast. Just 2-3 weeks ago I bought mine at RM1450. But even your price of RM1259 not the best; I heard another LYN forummer/dealer selling only RM1100.

QUOTE(htkaki @ Jun 22 2009, 04:02 PM) You switched on which first if it is handshake issue? All the components would be already on (pj, receiver, BD60). I then load a disc and start playing a movie. If the blackout happens, it will do so within the first 10-15 secs of movie starting.
