JJ is leaving the director seat for the 3rd installment?
*
Probably. He'll be busy with Star Wars: Episode VII, and Paramount will not be willing to wait...

I wonder if the writers will take over... and if that will be a good thing. They have a great visual style, can describe awesome action scenes. But their writing...

I don't think there's an IMAX 3D camera made available. Maybe not yet.

Talk about on-screen presence. He literally steal the show when he's on screen. Brilliant Villain! This is the best movie yet this year for me.

It is underperforming? YES! HELL F*** YES! Hated the first rebooted movie (it's the worst junk food ever...), and I'd call myself a trekkie. Watched TOS once, TNG, DS9 and VOY probably around 3-5 times each, some episodes more (and rewatching TNG now), ENT I'll have to start again and TAS I need to watch. I'm boykotting the new one because it looks like it's going to be even worse than the first one... so yes... great news. Maybe the reboot is dead. I sure hope so.

Though probably if you don't like Star Trek or a movie making sense even within its own universe, then it's a good one. biggrin.gif I think I know more trekkies who hate JJ Trek than normal people who didn't like it.

I am equally disappointed.
I love what JJ did to Star Trek, the reboot. The attraction to mainstream moviers. But he left out me, us the Trekkies.
Honestly, I will have never the Original Star Trek but with this release, I may watch when time allow.

But still when the show ended, I felt something missing.
I am looking forward for more.
Something more original, something that more to the heart of Trekkies, yet others mainstream viewers able to be happily consume.

Sigh, but it is alright. Let's just hope there will be new Star Trek TV series coming up soon in the coming years.
Currently watching TNG in HD.

Luckily there is also Star Trek: Phase II and another new project that aims at doing TOS. Especially the latest project seems to be very close to the original.

I have finished TNG season 3, but I guess I'll start watching ENT...

Star Trek 3 confirms a trio of writers
Aiming for a 2016 release date

Orci’s regular collaborator Alex Kurtzman has taken a pass on the third outing in the franchise, with the two newcomers having earned their stripes working on the still-to-be-released Boilerplate adaptation that J.J. Abrams is backing.

Meanwhile, the film is said to be aiming for a 2016 release date, explaining why Abrams himself is unable to return to the director’s chair for a third time.

A replacement director has still to be confirmed, although Joe Cornish is thought to be Paramount’s first choice to fill the position.

Whoever they choose, it looks as though we are set to get a new film in the fiftieth year of the series’ existence, a fitting birthday present for Gene Roddenberry’s creation. Live long and prosper...

(And for more from Orci on Star Trek 3, including a - we're assuming - tongue-in-cheek casting of Harrison Ford, just watch the video below...)

Lol, the somewhat latest trend with Hollywood movie studios... taking directors of a 'different' genre to do something else (e.g. James Wan of the horror genre to do 'Fast and Furios', Colin Treverow of comedy/drama to do 'Jurassic World').

It can go both ways; a unique approach or an absolute miss. nod.gif

Star Trek Beyond teaser/trailer is out. Looks so different as it seems more action packed. They are definitely going into a different direction
