It is underperforming? YES! HELL F*** YES! Hated the first rebooted movie (it's the worst junk food ever...), and I'd call myself a trekkie. Watched TOS once, TNG, DS9 and VOY probably around 3-5 times each, some episodes more (and rewatching TNG now), ENT I'll have to start again and TAS I need to watch. I'm boykotting the new one because it looks like it's going to be even worse than the first one... so yes... great news. Maybe the reboot is dead. I sure hope so.i dont know. Though probably if you don't like Star Trek or a movie making sense even within its own universe, then it's a good one.
I think I know more trekkies who hate JJ Trek than normal people who didn't like it.
