Penang PS3 Owner, Need some information

Hai, I'm not yet a PS3 owner. But I'm not sure which shop should I get the PS3 from. ACE prangin Mall ? I bought a 360 there and it defected like 3 months later. Kind of phobia. There is no warranty covered.
What about Mario Prangin mall and Game Tower prangin mall ? Which of this shop got warranty covered ? Ace told me they only cover for 2 weeks. And the new price is RM1350 for a 40gig PS3. Not sure which country version. |

LOL what kind of warranty is that. And again I went to Mario prangin also. Phew.. walked 3 shop.. letih ni... the guy quoted me RM1550 with 1 extra game. Nice bargain eh since got 1 month warranty. If rosak within 1 month they fix it lo.. FOC konon.. duno la since never buy from this shop b4.. The thing is, there is no ps3 stock atm.. have to order. so guys, I'm in a dilemma of whom should I buy the machine from ? Any more reliable shop in penang ? Dude, try Gamemart in 1stop. Got mine from there - I believe warranty is 1yr but they sell Japan version. One of the dude there (Ah Tatt) quite friendly, took the time to explain it to me although i was just browsing around initially.
For PS3 blu-ray games, Gamemart/Shops in Pragin prices are good, dont bother with shops in Gurney/QBay... those prices I can vomit blood with the price salesman quoted (>RM230). Watch out for sellers trying to sell you opened&repackaged/used game - I nearly got conned by one fella in one of the shops. Otherwise buy the PS3 from one of the shops in Lowyat forum... nelson / bernard. Their prices quite reasonable if you don't mind the shipping cost (usually RM40-RM80 to Penang) and highly recommended by the folks in the forum if you follow their forum thread. But PS3 rarely break down. based on my research combing through forums and reviews, the absolute worst (SUAY) case is the blu ray lens rosak. Go to XBOX forum, and you'll see a stretch of 3ROD users complaining -which was why i opt for PS3. If you can wait a few days/weeks I might be letting go of my 40GB PS3 (1 month old). Waiting for my MGS4 LE PS3 to arrive. |

1.Either you can bring back 360 to Ace for fix this repair then ask whether you wanna to trade in for PS3. 2.Another option that you can go to Gamemart at 1stop Midland ask about ps3. Cheers |

i bought from ACE few weeks ago... price 1400 +200 (MGS4)
the warranty issue actually is shipment u have to pay your self.. then the fixing is FOC. Queens Bay got one is Game house.. last time i go survey is 1400 (console only), and no stock one.. need to order.. thats why i go ace take lor.. snice they got stock d.. first time purchase item from ACE.. >.< |

I'm not hinting or badmouthing ace.. but even my fren who bought 360 from them last time..
b4 buying, they said don't worry.. they can unlock if got ban from xb live and it's FOC .. but after that, they said another story.. geez.. ACE way of doing biz ? I'm going to pay a visit to gamemart this weekend.. and see how it goes b4 deciding where to buy. |

i bought my PS3 from QB Mall... there are 3 game shops there, 2 of them have stocks at hand... lowest (cash) is RM1.5k+ for Machine with Metal Gear Solid.

I'm not sure what is the price of the PS3 now.
All i know is, during the MGS4 launch, it was priced at 1.3k for the 40GB. But now, i'm not sure... I bought it last year for 1.5k. And dont worry man, he's as reliable as you can get. And will never cut throat. Although the games he sell is slightly more expensive than KL shops, it's not by much. What i do is, if i can wait for the games, i'll buy from P-A. If i cant wait or just cost a few more bucks.. i'll go to his place instead. btw.. i think mine is singapore/hk set. I purchased mine from ACE not long ago.. .a week after that i start facing issue with date time, they ps3 after rebooted can't remember the date time and have to reset again. sigh.
i don't know what causes this or is it issue with ACE but then.. i don't plan to bring it back for them to fix. i plan to bring back singapore for warranty. |

I just found out from an ex staff of ACE.. they are actually selling refurbished as NEW 1st hand ! Damn ! Feel cheated after so long been a regular there. Anyway I checked out GameMart and had one PS3 reserved now.. Going pick it up this few days. Hopefully it's a good choice.
Regarding the time reset, err is it got something to do with the network stuff ? I read somewhere about it reseting every time u login the net.. Btw is it sufficient to play PS3 game online with just 512kbps yet streamyx popular lag-FULL connection ?  btw Initial D arrived already.. i bougth mine from ACE.. and the date time reset happening only a week after.. I can't be sure if its a refurbished unit because i can successfully register the warraty for one year in the sony website.
However i do feel regret that i should have asked my friend to buy a new unit from the singapore when he was there.. i still don't trust the locals much. for my case on the date time resets.. i plan to send it to singapore for warranty check, courier to my friend who stay in singapore.. then i will be able to tell if it is a refurbished or not.. |

and.. yay I just bought my ps3 from ah tatt.. the greatest thing is.. I don't have a LCD tv. but my sony tv is good enough to do even 1080.. though I set it on 720p with component only.. hehe.. sweet but menu word is a bit small. In game is good enuf though. N mGS4 is sweet, getting use to the control though..

hi everyone, me too a PS3's owner, bought it from Gametower Prangin @ RM1699 with 2 games one month ago!!
enjoy the GTA4,Virtual Tennis 3 & FIFA'08 games very much, but not really like the MGS4 as i feel that it is pretty boring... By the way, anyone of you in Penang here managed to buy the new Top Spin 3 game? Really can't wait to own the game but till now still fail to source it locally here in Penang either the region1 or region 3 version...  |

I got mine from ACE as well. That owner Ah Hin installed that Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection and charged me RM50 for it. Was informed this game cost RM90 if buy online. Then 1 week later, i asked him if he got the installer because my friend also wants it, he said no installer. While there, i tried PSP, RM720 for 4GB. I'm not into PSP games, just wanted to watch movies and remote control my PS3.
Got one shop told me that Tekken 5: DR game comes with a installer. I ended up buying from that shop instead of ACE. One day i passed through ACE while holding my PSP, Ah Hin got a strange look on his face, that is what he gets for no installer crap  |

Same here too. I used to get my stuff from ACE but after a few bad experience , i have decided to switch to Ah Tatt on a friend's recommedation. Got a PS3 system from him a couple of weeks back and have not look back since. Intend to get a few more games from him after finishing my copy of MGS4.
Btw if anyone have finish Uncharted and want to sell or trade u can PM me. |

I'm planning to get VF5 since it's so cheap now.. Hehe and DMC4 ! Anyone getting Soul Calibur this month ? ACE wasn't that teruk at the first place. At least not when they still got this ANDY guy there. But ever since he quit, all the customers quit together coz ACE BOSS SUCK ! What can I say when you even overcharged for a game title, bad services and don't give a damn care crap.. Oh ya, I'm wondering how much is the MGS4 Snake figurine now ? Any ideas guy ? |

To login on PS3, you just input your registered email address. |

i need to be really honest with this. sharing my experience as i just bought a PS3 from ACE this early June.
don't mean to join in the war on wether ACE is good or bad but i would have to say that the reason i bought from them is because i thought they are reliable but .. after i bought the ps3 for 2 weeks later, i got the problem with it. everytime i restart the ps3, it cannot save the system's date time, and i have to set it everytime i start my console. this never happen to any of my friends who get their ps3 from other shops.. or either just my luck. Called the shop owner and he said never seen this issue before. Somehow after reading all the reports on ACE in this thread.. i do feel being cheated by that shop. Just wanna put a word caution for the rest of guys here. especially those in penang. on top of that ACE usually sell their consoles way more expensive than the rate other shops is selling. So.. i regretted getting from them. Just wonder if I bought a console from A, does it mean I need to send to A for repair/service ? My experience was Mario refused to repair ACE PS2 console as I stay near BB area. Does GameMart perform thier own console servicing, and normally how long do they take ? I am planning for months to get the PS3 console but worried to go round the Island looking for SC. Pls advice as $$$ is not always save in bank...... |

Advice needed. A shop quoted me RM1380 for 40gb region 2(stated on box) machine but claimed is S'pore machine. I will get 1 year warranty frm Sony S'pore after I successfully registered my machine on the website. I am not naming the shop at the moment as I've not purchased the unit but its in Penang Island. Is it a good buy ? Please help shed some light.

I've checked. The model ends with "00" at the back is Jpn machine rite. Sgp is "06" and HKG is "12". The machine I saw ends with "00" and they claimed it is from SGP and all SGP machine comes from JPN. So no problem one... Can confirm ka?

Help Guys!!!... now only noticed theres something wrong.. everytime i boot up my PS3 i can connect to the net... then after like 10minutes it disconnect and cannot detect my wireless connection, but my PC and PSP can still detect... i need to reboot every 10minutes to keep my download going... Izzit something wrong with my PS3?????

hmm.... sure it's not your router problem ?
What router are you using ? Because i faced the same problem before.. only to find out my router was not stable enough, after messing around with it, finally got it to work... but the damn thing is preventing some online play for certain games... Why not try another router (if you have a spare one) Added on August 18, 2008, 4:26 pmalso make sure your pc is not downloading anything. e.g torrents, or spywares taking up bandwidth, that sort of thing... Hi, I'm new here.Hoping you all can add me on as friend. Just bought 40GB ps3 console+ MGS4 from Gamemart 3 weeks ago. The seller there named Ah Tatt provided excellent service, as u all have been rumouring about him! By I have a problem of online connection to my ps3. I used streamyx ethernet cable to connect it to d console.Then, follow the instruction to connect it to wired connection.But in the end, it appeared to say that i hv sort like DNS connection with (800....)number.Guys, any solutions?i really wan to play online,help!

ok first of all u cannot connect straight using the ethernet (not sure but it doesn't work for me).. to the PS3. So I ran out bought a modem with builtin router. I hooked up the first cable from modem to PC, second cable from the modem to PS3. And set up everything via AUTO (PS3).. and I am able to connect since then. I don't even have to on the pc to get PS3 online though I could have both online at same time. For which brand of modem, I'm not sure I'm using Aztech cheapo. But you might have to search to see which is the best for psn. |

Ben, you can check out the Technical thread... ask the question there.
If you are using direct connection to the modem, it's pretty much the same way you setup the modem for your computers. Alternatively, setup the modem via your computer. Then connect the ps3 and use automatic for everything |

Uncharted is now at irresistable RM160... too bad i already owned it. Resistance 1, Region 1 at RM120. Or used copy much cheaper. Coming tuesday, Mercs 2. Afrika also coming. His games are mostly less than RM180 ... Sheesh, komputer, i guess we shouldnt recommend his place too often, the games are fast disappearing... all the time, sold out one... Muahaha. |

Sheesh, komputer, i guess we shouldnt recommend his place too often, the games are fast disappearing... all the time, sold out one... Muahaha. |

new PS3 owner here. just bought 1 from sunway carnival mall sony style. they gav me 2 games which im not interested. soul calibur 4(Asia) sealed and totally new condition n GT5 pro(Asia , japanese voice, traditional chinese subtitle) , Sealed and totally new condition anybody know how much i can sell? the game are sealed & never opened and got Malaysia genuine sticker to scratch to register at www.sony.com.my/genuine ( i wonder how this works) i put rm 160 in the buysell thread for each of the game,is it too high? the same thing happen to me too...
i planned to buy ninja gaiden sigma, at 1st i saw a shop at megamall (i forgot the shop's name)selling the greatest hit version, so i ask the salesperson abt the price, the salesperson there told me it's RM259!!! he told me if i wan to buy the game, i should become their member(with RM35 annual fee) and i'll get 25% discount. Without hesitation, i walked away...lol 1 week later, i try that sony centre(i tot they r selling it at RM109) but when they told me it's RM199 n it is ORIGINAL, i was like (they think i dunno it is original because they stressed that it is ORIGINAL). I told them that the sonystyle website is selling it at RM109 n they started to react like 'is it true? dun try to cheat us', they ask me 'the sonystyle's website had already updated with PS3 games?' but anyways i left the shop and this time i went straight to gamemart to bought it. |

went once 2 weeks ago, and once today to pick up my silent hill from him. unfortunately both time i did not see the "man". only see another shop keeper. so far, i asked for a few price quote, it seem quite reasonable. |

btw he only sms us if there is new game.. he won't sms u if there is no new games arrive. what's the point right ? yes u can just go n buy, but his stock always finish very fast. The game probably will cost not more than 190RM as usual. Though we never know. sometimes R1 or R3 makes a difference, eg Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Genji.
NGS : US version u can chop human enemy limbs, Asia version can only chop monsters limbs Genji : Japan version can see blood, Asia version can only see "white light" when figting. |

Can't afford to buy games, so damn expensive, i wonder any pirated version in upcoming years like ps2 games which i can buy 30 Cds(each RM5) to replace 1 ps3 game. if i remember correctly. sometimes u will appreciate more if u buy ori.. btw there is no cheapo copies yet for ps3.. and I think it's kind of illegal to talk about this stuff here. Mr.Mod might not like it. It's still impossible to have BD copies atm. Too exp ma. New ori games now is much cheaper compare to PS2 era where 1 game might cost around 250-300 or some even more. Ya especially the Jap version. Now all the asian version are cheaper, less than 200 for sure. Only some ripped off jack @ss shopkeeper sell more than 200. So the best is get from playasia or ah tatt lo. Ben, if you need a bigger HDD, just go buy a 200 dollar lappie hdd lo.. have ah tatt install for u if u duno. IF u ask nicely he sure can help. Btw those who need larger hdd is becoz they put a lot of medias inside ma ex songs movies n so on.. instead of just gaming. If just for gaming, i think 40gig more than enuf la.. dun sad ya.. Hows the paying process if we buy games from play-asia?I read through the web page saying, there are quite numbers of payment via credit card, bank.........etc. But i do not have any credit card but only thinking paying by cash. Then, how to order! Their base is in Hong Kong, is this trade reliable or not? I'hv never try this thing before. Dark NT, how u bought items from them?

i've bought one BD from play-asia before... paid through credit card. it's reliable, they do send as promised. Only downside was that I ordered through normal post shipment (because it's f.o.c.) and the postman just left it in the postbox downstairs of my office in an open postbox... anybody could've just took it away... but luckily i got to it 1st. Anyways, i'd recommend at least registered mail where they'd ask for your signature to confirm delivery... safer

Then, better buy games straight away from shop, like Ah Tatt. Somemore safer, but of course have to wait a litter bit longer for the stock to arrive. What u guys think are the games ordered from play-asia will be more cheaper than the price tagged by Ah Tatt. I wonder whether Ah Tatt or other salepersons will just simply put a price without any decent thought just hoping to make more money, not to accuse Ah Tatt but u know some others may be.

From what i observed, Ah Tatt's prices are among the cheapest.
Cheaper than Play-Asia. To me, it's the same, you go for free shipment with play-asia, you'll have to wait 10 working days anyway.. so might as well wait for Ah Tatt's games to arrive at his store. PA is very reliable by the way. I've never faced any problems with their shipping before, even with free delivery. |

sometimes Play Asia can get very cheap products.
and they have 2 sales (April and Jul i think), where most items are 20% or 25% off. i believe they are a distributor. so sometimes they get chepaer things. but again, like what you guys say, compare la before we buy. there is another online store www.yesasia.com --- most things more expesnive. but sometimes u get 1-2 good buy from them too. |

For ridge racer u have to release gas then on corner hit brake a second b4 then hit gas.. control wise lo.. then drift.. sure can 1st place..
Resistance 2 starting will have some story retold so u get a the insight b4 continue the second lo.. Not necessary need resistance1 though gamemart is selling for just RM120 !.. ya grab it if you want. I'm still waiting for restock of the greatest hit. |

that ACE shop owner a bit sombong la... when see you will smile... but sometimes when talking to you his eyes can see other direction one. and if too many ppl around on weekends, no matter how popular u are.. oso will be ignored. not even a hi. I go to gamemart for my stuff. PS3 also from there. Games oso from there. bad experience liao la.. I bought my DS from ACE though, DSLite oso from ACE, but no more liao. beh tahan. no point rite?

Just bought games from gamemart. The price is really lower than may other shop. I have survey many at butterworth and prai area. No 1 shop got that kind of price. Got a shop offer join "member", then give special discount. But the price still higher than gamemart. Thanks alot

Anyway, who says Ah Tatts profit margin is RM10? If his margin is RM10, he won't be selling at all.
My point is, Ah Tatt makes a reasonable margin; while ACE makes a huge profit, at the expense of the consumer. I think anyone who buys PS3 games from ACE is a dumbass anyway. RM230 for a new game? Go and fark off. You think how we earn money to buy PS3 by being dumbasses? If you want to be a dumbass and support ACE, go ahead. Anyway PS3 gamers love Gamemart. You know the MGS4 launch at Gamemart got how many ppl or not?? It was so full until the secuirity guards also come marah us. I tried both demos.... PES always have the edge in gameplay imo.
It's very responsive everywhere, whereas, FIFA is kinda slow in terms of player reaction. and the player just does not go where you want him to go. So, personally, i'm getting PES/Winning 11, and not FIFA. I'm sooo gonna be a "LEGEND" ... |

act depend on you..some of PES die hard fan..they have been frustated by PES since PES08 n PES09 oso.. for me i'm not sure yet..coz not try yet PES09 demo..

Gamemart sure is amazing,I asked for the price of Mgs4 and ps3 and from many game stores by phone, Ace,Game Master,Mario. All of em quoted prices between RM230 to RM299 for the game(can't remember the prices for the ps3). So i thought RM230 was about as cheap as it gets. I contacted Gamemart which was at the time, still quite unfamiliar to me, and they gave me a whooping RM180 and the price for the ps3 was also the cheapest among all the stores so i bought both of it from 'im. Maybe it was because of the official launch that made it cheaper, but the best thing about the guy is that he knows exactly what he's talking about. He's equally enthusiastic as a gamer himself to get other gamers to buy the right and good games and not just selling mindlessly. Ask the guy about a game, if he's played it, he'll mutter on and on about his opinions of it, the good and the bad, tell you what you can look forward to in the game and not just a simple, this is a good game and this is the price,end of story, as most people do, the guy actually has an OPINION and is not afraid to express it.

Ya, u r right Gadll. I just went to Gamemart this evening to purchase my heavenly sword for RM160,fuuuuu. At the same time i asked a lot of questions regarding addition of more HDD space plus which one is better between fifa09 n PES09. U guess what, he spend the time to talk to me about the bad and good on both of the game, that why i like him so enthusiastic as a game seller. A while later his shop was bombarded with customers n the funny thing the other shop (Mario) below Gamemart seems to pak bang!

I have an Xbox360. It happened to me an hour after i played it for the first time,didn't know much about 3ROD so i did a few hours of troubleshooting(reconnecting the cables,etcetc). After i did everything i could and gave up,i checked the net.To my horror,i discovered that my 360 was practically dead and it was a modded one too,so,no chance of sending it to Microsoft for a replacement. I flipped,thinking that i was scammed into wasting RM1300+ on a fat piece of brick.I thought theres no way the game store i bought it from was gonna fix it but to my surprise,i went to em the next day and they replaced it....so i got no comments on em. >.> Its been servin me nicely for 2 years now.And no,i didn't buy it from Gamemart.

also downloaded the Bioshock/Condemned/Darkness demo but find it really boring.. i like J-RPG, Action Adventure!!! |

Just used the power to fix the train only. kena scared once again. damn... they're really exploiting the cheap scares... maybe long time no play survival horror liao.
I haven't reach the shop yet, but then again.. should I use the scorpion suit? it'll make u tougher rite? added armor? cos if i do that, it'll be a little bit less scary. |

Yea,I'm playing on hard without the scorpion suit and it all feels so damn surreal. There's always the lingering feeling of insecurity, the constant fear that a Necromorph might just pop out from a duct behind, plus the ammo is extremely scarce. In every fight, there's always a need to place yourself strategically, aggravate them and they'll come running to you in packs and you'll find yourself cornered so its important to have some space to retreat or maneuver. Certain Necromorphs feign their death so i had to go stomp all the bloody bodies i see.
The main problem is the scarcity of ammo at the beginning of the game,had to make every single one of em count, which is hard when you're panicked and shocked. Well,thats the beauty of it,if you're going to use the scorpion suit then you'll be losing out on the atmosphere and tension as well as the scares offered by the game.
