Andrew Pang is GOOD!His explanation is good enough though, calculation is unique and FAST!I'm his ex student for CAT T7 and currently F9 student of his,and whenever you dont understand something n looking for some explanation,HE WILL CLEARLY EXPLAIN TO YOU!

Just come back from Chow Kim Tai P5 revision class.

I feel that certain area Chow Kim Tai cover more detail than Andrew, expecially theory part. For Andrew, he only cover General thing for P5 theory, but Chow Kim Tai cover more detail than him. But calculation part, Andrew method is faster than Chow Kim Tai.

So both oso have advantage and disadvantage la!

Anyone got P3 study areas/tips from parmindar whom attended the RI? smile.gif

Ri will be finished tomorrow but since only 3 hours left i think i can share quite a bit first.
His Ri is 98% similar to his normal class sessions, i remeber his quote " If you can remember or understand most of his RI material not only you will pass you can do even better". He touches only 50% or lesser from his main notes during normal class. I don't know abouth others but the class is quite repeatitive for me (i was blessed with a long memory span) so i can still remember word by word what he say the most. My friends also share my opinion. Why am i talking about this (like parmindar already). His focus area :

Since P3 is quite vast & specifying each specific are is quite difficult but this is normally what he said
- "I strongly feels strategy bounds to come out as a direct question since no question has been touched on strategy for the past 2 sitting"
He strongly urged to read areas related to Diamond, market forces, 7S, Pestel, equity & non equity alliance.
- "Your examiner is ex IT examiner and IT / IS is his comfort zone in exam & question will bound to touch on IT whether direct or indirect"
He strongly implied project management, e-commerce, e-marketing, V model, CMMI & quality software.

There are of course other areas but i left it for you to read yourself tongue.gif . This is his quote too (and myself). He will touch on strategy evaluation & culture tomorrow maybe he can finish ???, i have been studying 8 days straight rclxub.gif rclxub.gif my body is there but mentally i am somewhere else.
One of my advice to all students regardless of what paper you took, DON'T BELIEVE & FOLLOW WHATEVER YOUR LECTURER ASK YOU TO STUDY OR REVISE or else you will end up failing. Take last year F8 and P2 paper for example, so many people failed bcos they believe all their lecturer spots & exam turn up something very different.
When i told my lecturers that i did not believe what they spot, they were quite amused & encourage me to follow this attitude.

By the way any michael mainwaring revision students can share a bit of info thumbup.gif God bless you

Excuse me good accountants to be people.

I have a question. important one and please reply as soon as possible.
i just logged in into myacca and checked that my online docket is ready for download but when i downloaded i saw that my f4 variant is not MYS but in fact it is ENG. im sure i checked the whole thing before submitting the payment. i check hundreds of times already because excited to sit for exams. and then this happens.

what should i do?

my friend experienced this before and she managed to change the variant to MYS. she did the paper but when results came in she failed. simply because they say she did not sit for the exam. help please!

Guys i'm currently studying CAT at sunway

My marks have been quite good in CAT, right now im preparing for CAT T6 T7 T8 T9 this coming December.

I do not know if I should take up 4 papers next Sem (F4 F5 F6 F9) or three papers (F4 F5 F6)

I believe I have quite good fundamental in CAT, I think I won't have a problem taking extra subject F9 next semester, but would you guys brief me a little about it?

I'm only more concerned about second and third semeseter where I would be taking (F7 F8 P1 P3) and the remaining three P papers in the last semester.

Any suggestion or comments anyone?

Last time during my Cat level i was quite like you and my marks all above 80. However i choose the conservative approach by taking 3 papers at a time (ACCA recommendation). If you have straight pass your journey should be quite exciting until the end. Optional only 2 but paper quite hard.
Next sitting should be a more relaxed year for me (2 optional paper) since i will finish 3 of my core this sitting (assuming i pass).

Taking 4 paper is quite a sound strategy too assuming you can handle the burden (difficulty is not like CAT anymore since you are required to explain more & shows more maturity in your answer and marker will not be so lenient anymore). Many students feels the difficulty when coming to audit & performance management so if possible don't choose this area first. Your reporting paper should be taken the sitting before the advanced level since a lot of area to cover together.

Perhaps this will illuminate your exposure :
1) F4 law : No paper to give you insight in cat but the paper is purely to memorise (copy and paste like your SPM history paper). Doing a lot of past year qs should get you through.

2) F5 pm : Very diiferent from your costing in terms of how to answer (course structure pretty 50% similar). many people cannot adapt that quickly with the application answer, its more theory than calculational so costing can be quitte difficult

3) F6 tax : 90% similar but more emphasis on corporate tax. Past year should get you through. Its still to early to test on application.

4) F7 reporting : you only cover 10 - 15% in your cat. Its very vast area and now emphasis will be on testing your consolidation with the application of standards. If you excel in calculation but hate the standards part your worst nightmare will come true on this paper.

5) F8 audit : many people have failed this paper at countless sitting bcos they do not know how to answer appropriately although they knew the answer. Elaborate too little will even get you 0 mark even you get all the key pointers. A very application paper. Your cat is focus on definitions but F8 focuses on what to do with it. You like to spot mistake or construct a flow map ? Cat cover roughy < 40%

6) F9 finance : A lot of formulaes & models to get through, the theory can be quite hard as well. However if you good at mathematics (especially add maths) nothing too difficult. NPV is always there to give you bonus marks.

Heya. I took 4 papers in the early Fundamental papers, and now I'm taking a combination of Fundamental and Professional papers which also adds up to 4 papers.

Prior to that I was a CAT student. As long as you're not the student who scores relatively low in CAT you should be fine. A good basic in CAT will help tremendously in Fundamental level.

I would support taking 4 papers especially F4,F5,F6,F9 as it gives you flexibility later on. If you find that you can keep up with it, continue taking F7,F8,P1,P3 and if not, just take 3 papers. Unlike F8, you don't really need to have prior knowledge for F9 to be able to understand better.

FTMS use to have the best team lecturer in malaysia lat time if not asia. I use to remember the likes of balbeer mangat singh himself teach acca papers, navzar tara, fred kaer, fung chee kong, keith farmer, chow kim tai, daniel ho, chin ann but they all gone now. This is what happen if you over diversify ( sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif ).

Normally they let a foreigner to teach revision if the current crop of lecturer (em hem) not that popular. Mco use to do that with their finance lecturer Steve Lumby & currently P3 with michael mainwaring.
