VGA vs DVI ....or rather LGW1942T(VGA + DVI) vs samsung 943nwx(VGA only)...which wan is better? kinda attracted to samsung's design....however LG is not bad too as it provides A+D input.......pros ? *same specs altogether

20" ones are rather hard to come by... While most 19" ones nowadays are "16.2 milllion color" type panels (cost cutting by manufacturers). Budget around RM800 can get 22" already, and most 22" are "16.7 million colors" panel, plus the bigger the screen the better viewing angle for TN panels. Make sure it has DVI..  icon_rolleyes.gif

More info on 16.2 and 16.7 million colors here: http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/black.php (scroll down to Background on Dithering) wink.gif
Nice info. I'll have some read before throwing out more questions later.

DVI provides much sharper display, no?

anyway... for 22", which of these more recommended
- Samsung 2232BW (cheapest here RM930)
- LG W2242T (cheapest here RM946)
- Fujitsu FA-22W1B (cheapest here RM899)

alternatively I'd just get a 19" LG W1942T for RM679 and spend more on the rig. This monitor also displays 16.7mil colours right?

Requirements still the same... building a rig mainly for photo editing.

DVI provides more stabil images and more vibrant colors. You definitely do not want flickering or jittery images... especially images with fine patterns and/or details, also moire patterns... brows.gif

Ermm.. its your choice... though I do highly recommend a 22" and/or IPS panel... icon_rolleyes.gif

Example of moire pattern, check out the attachment...Attached File  Moire_on_parrot_feathers.zip ( 946.1k ) Number of downloads: 17
Use 1:1 pixel mapping, means 1 screen pixel=1 image pixel.. Unadjusted monitors (using VGA input) may show flickering or pixel crawl.. cool2.gif

Most IPS panels are costly... due to being a true 8-bit (true 16.7 million colors) type panel. The cheaper alternative would be PVA panels... Acer has 24" one under RM1000/-, model number AL2416W ... icon_rolleyes.gif

Just bought that 19" lg a week ago. Color reproduction is good for a TN panel. Pass almost all test on that site http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test . Quite surprised it passed the black test, even when viewing from the side, gamma is set at 0/brightness 22/ contrast 70. Except for inversion pixel walk test, slight flicker on 2b and alot of flicker on 4b.

But of course if budget allows, getting a IPS panel is better for photo editing. If not just get this lg will do tongue.gif

Hmm.... Are you using analog VGA or DVI? hmm.gif

Should not flicker at all. brows.gif

My 22" monitor passed every test EXCEPT the "Viewing angle" one... Can't be faulted, its TN panel weakness. blush.gif

QUOTE
The word 'lagom' on this image should blend in with the background everywhere; otherwise the gamma curve of your monitor is dependent on the viewing angle, which is the case with most displays based on TN technology. Typically, the letters appear blue-green at the top and red at the bottom.
That does not happen with S-IPS or PVA type panels.. rolleyes.gif
