Check with your older generation relatives whether they have the family genealogy book (家谱) with them. If not maybe can go Thean Hou Temple (I'm just guessing) and see whether they have any records since your grandparents are from the village you just mentioned.

QUOTE(lengzhai @ Feb 22 2016, 10:43 PM)
hope u understand what i typed. it is better to go thean hou temple to ask. i agree with luigee. they surely have the name book.
wahlau weh what did i typed last time, over a year ago..

Wah, thanks sifu's but ... one year ago leh tongue.gif

Anyway forgot to update here, got good news got bad news. We asked around and the good news is managed to find the poem!!!! So my brother's kid now got the proper middle name from the poem.

The bad news ... the kid is the last name in the poem, lol ... so when the kid got his own kids then I dunno how to find the continuation liao icon_idea.gif

to be honest I'm not sure. However if you go to Thean Hou Temple, you can ask them. I think they did some Hainanese language classes before.

Nice.. I actually know a lot of Hainanese in Penang. Grew up in a Hainanese kampung area at Batu Feringghi. I pretty much spoke Hainanese since young with my kampung frens and I speak Hainanese at home with my parents.
Not staying with my parents anymore but I would say my spoken Hainanese is still good. I think smile.gif

That 怀 should be Hwai1

As for 挂 should be Gua, which is thinking off.

I asked the teacher at Hainan Association at KL she said Gua Niam.

它的造音相似怀孕。
Gua Kia

maybe can refer to her for more info.

Let me ask some senior.

Kia is 仔 isn't it ?

I remember 十月怀胎 is Tap Guay Hwai Hai

I still stand that 怀 is either read as Hwai or Ywai depends on different pronunciation.

Kua could be 裹

Hainanese uses lot of ancient wording such as Chopsticks as 箸 du & Egg as 卵 nui.

So can't use more modern language like Cantonese to interprete.

Hi,

I'm looking for a place called Qinglan Se (I was told verbally and it sounds like "ching lan si") with a nearby village called "Beh Tu".

Hope someone can point me to where this place is.

Thanks!
