Bought my E71 few days ago. I can't get to connect to 3G network. It always connected to only GPRS or eGprs only. I had done the below:

1. Downloaded 3G setting.

2. Went to maxis centre and confirmed that my sim card already activated. They tried to checked but couldn't find the prob. We also tried to swap my sim card to other phone and it was working. Tried use another working 3G sim card in my E71, not working too.

3. Tried to deactivated the APN control which suggested in this thread but no luck too.

4. Fyi, it is a AP phone which I think is a Europe version, no chinese. Went back to the shop and there said maybe 3G maxis setting is not available for this phone yet which I think is just bullshit. They suggested me to do a master reset which I don't dare to do first bcoz I had many data in the phone already.

5. Maxis told me that maybe the phone has something blocking the 3G access.

Anyone here got any idea what's going on here? Please please help me on this because I really stuck with this problem.

go to tools > settings > phone > network & make sure u use dual mode. If that was already active bt your hp still no 3G, then i guess you have to do hard format, no choice..

Thanks for replied, I did try that too. I just found out my e71 is the model e71-2 which I think is a US model with UMTS 850/1900. Do you guys this might be the cause? If yes, what can I do?

Eyeing on the white E71! been trying to look around but many shops are still not selling the white unit. Can anybody recommend a shop/dealer around KL area? Im not really concern about AP or Ori, as long its whiteeeeeeee.

Where U brought yr E71? Might go to the shop and "F" the shopkeeper to exchange for U...

Yeah, the screen protector is widely available now. I even bought it from Reene in the Garage sales.


Today I subscribe for RM8 per day celcom unlimited data plan for my Nokia E71. Connect the phone as modem to access internet. Below is my speedtest result. Comments are much appreciated. 3.5G data link appear at my home screen now.


The test with Mozilla Firefox 6 websites opened, yahoo messenger, skyppe online.

Thanks to mikelanding....went to the shop and "F" them to change to E71-1. Now I got the new phone and 3G is working. The new one even support chinese....yeah

Location is Puncak Jalil near Kinrara. I even manage to receive Call/SMS while surfing and the connection is not interrupted.

well done...too bad, my kelana jaya ss26, no 3g coverage for celcom n maxis....so i gonna use streamyx lo...

Does anyone know the difference between an AP set, Avaxx/Zitron, and CSL set?

A shop told me that AP just doesn't come with free 3 months of GPS.

Thank you for the info. I have no plans to get the AP sets so I guess original sets comes with Chinese is a good thing for me. It's a pain that it doesn't recognise chinese on my current E61 and I would need to spend RM60 to be able to read Chinese at Mobile Technic, if only i knew about the difference when I bought it

After I exchange with another AP set which can access 3G and also got chinese too, but the Contact Search function is no longer available (the function when you type any character in home screen and straight display contact with the character you typed), anyone know why? I tried the option button but there's no "Contact Search On/Off" selection for me to choose from.

Go to tools > settings > general > personalization > home screen> mode settings > home screen apps. > enabled apps.

From there, tick search & press ok.
