This is a very informative thread. Please keep it up

By the way, I need some advices from experienced practicing lawyers or anyone who can give a validation as to regard to senior status llb program offered by Cambridge, if it is recognized by Malaysia accreditation board? I have already obtained my first degree and currently am contemplating to further my study in law. How about the other accelerated degrees (two years senior degree) offered by other universities  in UK? Any advice will be deeply appreciated and thank you in advance!

I think you must do the BTPC after that.

Hello, from 2012 most Australian universities are offering the Juris Doctor. Can I practice in Malaysia after obtaining that? Since Aus share the common Law system with Malaysia...

Try checking the list on the LPQB website. Shouldn't be a problem. It's just a name change.

For consti, read widely. It's probably the subject I hated the most, along with land law.

No. That's not going to work. Read the first page of this thread and the LPA.

Firstly, thank you to schizophrenic, alsree786 and solstice818 for posting useful information all around. I've read several threads with your names in it and it was a real help when other official pages gets dry on info. It's a real persons' take on the routes to legal profession in Malaysia.

I've searched and couldn't find a conclusive answer.
1) Is UiTM's LLB the same as Institut Teknologi MARA ADIL? Just another name but wasn't updated by the Malaysian Bar's website?

2) Is local part time LLB recognised by The Malaysian Bar? I understand that UOL LLB (External) is recognised.

I'm interested in Part Time study as I realised from my first Full Time degree in Quantity Surveying that that's how I learn best.

My research so far:
Planning for UiTM PLK March 2013 intake: mainly financial reasons, CLP exempted, part time study allowing me to maintain my current work as a Quantity Surveyor from home, local law degree as I'm interested in Land Law and Real Estate (construction related as I'm already in the field), possible career routes that I'm interested in: Quantity Surveyor specialised in Arbitration, Mediation etc. OR Lawyer specialised in Syariah Land Law (Harta Pusaka). I'm still researching on how to take the remaining 1 year for Syariah studies.

That's my understanding of possible career routes from a non-legal person's point of view. Do advice if it's not what's practiced in the Legal Field in Malaysia.

Thanks in advance for any answers and if there's none, I'll check with the Legal Profession Qualifying Board Malaysia and post it up here. A letter in black and white would be best I presume? Or a phone call sufficient?

It's more difficult for 3rd year than for 2nd year to get into the better known unis.
UWE and Hertfordshire accept transfers to 3rd year.

It is recognized, in fact there are many practising lawyers who went through LLB external.
Thing is, you need to get min. 2nd class honours to be eligible to sit for the CLP. This requirement only applies to LLB UOL External grads.

Why not go for UM instead of Uitm if you looking for Part Time Law Degree? I am sure it is recognized by Board. smile.gif And FYI, UKM do have Syariah Law Diploma Course for full time but I am not sure about whether Part Time Syariah is available or not.

there is no twining program for Law in malaysia. But there is UK Transfer program, hmm.gif hmm.gif where by you read law for the first two years in malaysia and then for the third year, you move to UK uni to study there as an internal student. BAC offers UKTranfer not Twinning. It would always be either 1+2 or 2+1.

My search so far for Part Time Local Law Degree only came up with UiTM. Didn't know UM had one. Can't even find a section about 'Part Time' or 'Distant Learning' section on their website. Will ask my UM friend about it though. Thanks for the info. Will keep searching for a part time Syariah course.

UM's external program is called MoJ (master of Jurisprudence). 2 years and you have to sit for CLP.

I'm going to take my A Level exam soon consists of only 2 subjects which is law and economics. I find it hard to focus on both subjects at the same time. Would it be possible for me to do economics AS and A2 on upcoming nov2012 exam & law subject AS and A2 on next year june2012 exam? Did I fulfill the CLP requirement which I must obtain 2 principal passes in the one and same sitting of the examination ? since I'll do it separately

anyone please guide me ? blush.gif

you MUST take two subjects in one sitting. You cant sit for the exam by taking the subjects separately. It is also part of the prerequisites for LLB. 2 principal passes in one single sitting.

Another alternate way would be sitting for your AS papers in Nov2012 and then take your A2 papers next year May/June. You would have plenty of time to prepare for your A2 papers later.
