guys, once I update my diamond to 1.93 SPL, it is not able to install gmm (Google Maps Mobile) when i tried to download from www.google.com/gmm, it pops up a msg saying that "Sorry, Google Maps does not work on your HTC P3600" ????? Why?

Yeah thats one of the reason why I sided HTC Diamond. We need support like these because sometimes we can't wait for the manufacturer to release updates. Although HTC is very fast into releasing updates, Samsung on the other hand is almost non-existent unless you go to their service center.

Another point is that software will be very hard to find due to the different than standard resolution. Although the HTC Diamond also experiences these problems because of its VGA resolution, I think an awkward aspect ratio is more critical.

The Samsung Omnia does have a lot of good qualities which puts it on par with HTC Diamond. Both is a good PDA phone. The choice whether you can accept Samsung's proprietary policy all over its products like LG. Another point is that the Samsung Omnia is seriously overpriced considering Samsung's handphone price has never been to more than RM2500 price tag. Putting its price more than HTC Diamond surely need a lot of good qualities to justify their pricing. I say give it a few months, Samsung and LG phones usually drop like waterfall after all the launching fever is gone.

E = Edge
G = GPRS
3G = 3G, duh..
H = HSPDA

I just changed my Maxis plan to Value Plus 50 + Extra Bytes (RM8 for 5MB data usage) to test out 3G. However, for whatever reasons (please let me know if you do), I check my Maxis unbilled amount (at the time of writing) is RM 191.47 . I am sure that I have not used more than 5 minutes going online via 3G/HSPDA.

I think from davidmak's previous post he did some changes on the configuration to stop the phone from using 3G during a wifi session. I got the idea from there to change my Maxis 3G configuration from unet to unet1 to stop it from connecting using 3G/HSPDA. So far so good but it is an expensive lesson..

Yes, i also kena. over rm1500 by Maxis for a week of surfing. I was pretty sure i was connected using the Wifi. When i called up, all they said was it is possibe for the charge to be that high, citing the high uploading and downloading charges. I have since been on the unlimited plan.

There is a freeware called NODATA, toggle to enable and disable data connection. Find it useful.

another thing. You can download the GPRS Monitor from the application disc that comes with diamond. YOu can set up the connection and monitor your data traffic. Really useful.

Maxis data charges plans sucks big time! Eventhough im using Maxis (after expensive experience im on unlimited data). Their systems sometimes f**ked up and they dont want to accept that. The customer always pays! Coverage and speed very good - but if ur not using unlimited data - ur bound to get f**ed if ur not lucky. Even now i still regularly checked my plans just to be sure

That was the reason I shared this. It might be an indirect strategy to force users to unnecessarily subscribe to unlimited plan.

u do realise although u surf for like 10 mins can cost a bomb right? like LYN page. how big is this page? 700kb? if u dun use any plans its 1kb 1 cent right? so load LYN page = RM7. My advice? do not use 3G unless u're using unlimited.

hmm... i got frens also complaining maxis charging them even when they using WLAN.. the fact is, ur phone may connect to the internet using 3g/edge/gprs even though ur WLAN is connected.. i duno how the 3g works (cos i'm still using digi edge though).. but whenever it starts to connect to GPRS / Edge, u'll c a E/G icon with the <- -> symbol on top of the signal bar right?

and once it's connected, u'll c a E / G icon on top of the signal bar. so that's indicating that u are connected to GPRS though...

BTW.. anyone seen some in car charger that's for music player? it plugs into the cigarette lighter plug, then u can plug in a usb cable on it n start charging... I'm just wondering can we use to charge our phone or not? since it stated 500mA to 1000mA. Anyone tried b4?

To buy TD with all the connectivity options minus the freedom to use HSDPA, updates etc etc (due to no unlimited data package) is quite sad/weird. How many of us actually used the video call? I've used it - regulary and it works fine with Maxis HSDPA even with 3G. Never video call anybody on Celcom though....
