Got 1 question, do Winter White always fight when they meet each other in a cage ?

I got 2 females yesterday, 1 sapphire + 1 agouti.

The Sapphire always bully the agouti, every time they meet the sapphire will turn the agouti onto the floor and both of them squeak. doh.gif

Then the agouti stay on the floor with 4 legs facing up for a while until the sapphire went away, when i go touch her, she will squeak doh.gif

Between, they are very very small, not even 2 months i guess. They don't bite, just the push and squeak.
*
if before 2 months they already push & squeak, then after 2 months they'll fight brutally.. always observe them.. WW fights are not mild, it's very brutal sometimes.. in ur situation, the sapphire is more dominant then the agouti.. when u touch the agouti & it squeaks, it means it is scared.. separate them if u see them fighting brutally.. one symptom of brutal fighting is when they 'hiss' at each other while struggling.. also they draw blood sometimes.. but u have to be observant, cos some fights are silent (no squeaking at all, yet one is biting into another's flesh).. i've experienced watching silent fights before.. so u have to be alert at all times..

I guess if they have signs of fighting, then shouldnt take risk anymore and seperate them. Else, when the fight turns serious then regret.

Pushing and squeaking sounds dangerous. They could have more brutal fights later.

About the tissues, in my opinion, the normal tissue that we have will disintegrate when it's wet and since my hamster likes to stuff it into it's mouth, it worried some might be left behind (in the mouth). So i give serviettes - harder to disintegrate but still soft.

Btw, I can deliver nezu's smoothies to Cyberjaya this Friday (27 June) so if anyone wants, pls pm me smile.gif Might be another one next week also, then I'm on holiday. So yea..two more weeks to get it in Cyberjaya

yes, the cylinder thingy, according to jamien, "You betta let them have some for the sake of themselves"  biggrin.gif
Just kidding, it's good for their health, i mean.

i've been feeding my hammies with habitrail, recently i tried delicate, totally the same thing to me..
otherwise, try get some vegie and fruits for your hammies if you find they're bored of staple fruits. feeding fruits and vegies once a while is great choice, but just once a while, you can google out which fruits and vegie that they like most.

about prestige, the price is killing me, not really a wise choice for a poor student like me sad.gif

i'm glad to hear that... i was worried about my robos when i can touch their legs from the air hole..  shocking.gif

i should try 'teaching' them to eat pellets, no more food wastage!!  brows.gif

Prestige can last quite long eh. It's been a month and my 2 syrians still leave me with an almost full packet. Divide the one pack to 3 months, one month only pay RM 8? So I think ok in a long run. Some more it's good for our hammies ma.

Well, they live with each other quite well in the pet shop, i saw them drinking and eating together.

After i took them back, they started to fight doh.gif

And they are still small, i can't imagine how they fight when they turn into adult WW.

sweat.gif Well yeah. See, what people don't get is the worth in a long run. They just see "wah... RM 24. So expensive". But they can use that food for 3 months PLUS, depending on how many hamsters they have. In a long run, it is cheap and affordable. So why don't go get the best for your hammie?

@Underground: When relocated, hamsters often fight to establish dominance and also define territory. Petshop hammies don't fight because basically no space belong to them and there's simply so many that it's so stressing. When you bring them home, there's only the hammie and the other one. Plus good food also. Why don't chase the other hamster away so itself can have it all?

blush.gif It doesn't make us happy but it makes a lot of sense.

Guys i rase mcm pelik jerh,

from what ive read on the internet,

WW hamster :

In the Wild

In the wild Dwarf Winter White Russian Hamsters live in colonies and resent intruders into the colony and will attack any other hamsters that wander into the colony territory.

They live in burrows within the grassy steppes and sleep during the day, waking only for short periods. They are nocturnal and awake at dusk, being active at night. Their sight is poor but their sense of smell and hearing are very acute and they rely heavily on these senses to recognise each other and their environment.

In Captivity

In captivity the Dwarf Winter White Russian Hamster is a sociable pet and will live with another of its own kind if they are introduced when young. However, an older hamster will resent the addition of another hamster and a fierce fight is likely to occur.

But only the Syrians are solitary

here is the information

In The Wild

Syrian HamsterIn the wild the Syrian Hamster lives alone and is fiercely territorial, attacking any intruders or other hamsters it may be confronted with during its travels.

They live in individual burrows a distance away from any other burrow of another hamster. They are nocturnal sleeping during the day (although they may wake for short periods) and awake at dusk becoming active at night. Their sight is poor but their senses of smell and hearing are very acute. During the night the Syrian Hamster will travel collecting food, returning to its burrow several times to empty the contents. In one night the Syrian may travel up to 8 miles in this way.

In Captivity

In captivity the Syrian Hamster's solitary instinct prevails and once mature it will not normally accept the company of another hamster. Although they live together as babies and are often seen caged together in pet shops or at the breeders, as the hamsters mature their solitary instinct develops. Syrian Hamsters will not, therefore, usually tolerate the company of another hamster once they reach approximately 6-10 weeks of age when fighting starts to occur. These fights may not be serious at first but as the hamster matures the frequency and severity of the fights increase. The fights most often take place during the night when the hamsters are most active and so often goes unobserved until serious injury or even death of one or both hamsters occurs. Therefore Syrian Hamsters should be housed separately once purchased in order to prevent injury - the golden rule is one hamster, one cage.

This is what i know since b4 i join LYN.
i think, u guys have been provided with wrong information by someone kot.
there must be misunderstanding with the Hamster living behavior

hmm.gif I dunno much about WWs since I have very little experience with them. But what I do know is, there are always exceptions. One hammie will be disliked without reason.

blush.gif Also, being put in a new area triggers fight. It only differs how fierce the fight is but it would definitely happen. They need to re-establish who is the dominant hammie. It happenes with robos, who can live in large communities. It must happen to WWs too.

@neshie: he means that WWs are social creatures and can ive together due to their communial instincts. tongue.gif I used to feed habitrail.

tongue.gif Cuz my english keng.

Yes. He's talking about WW. He's making a comparison between WW and syrian. The site says syrians are the only solitary hamsters. WWs can mix well with those of its kind when intro during young age. But experience teaches us that isn't always the case right?

smile.gif Mealworms can get at any life fish shop. I feed to my hammies la. hmm.gif My robos didn't use to like it much though. But chris's robos do eat if I remember correctly. So depends individually.

smile.gif Just make sure to gutload the mealies for at least 2 days before feeding them.
