if the plot is too complex, majority people (stupid) will dump this. same like what happened to Watchmen.

The only movie that almost can beat titanic for worldwide, aredy USD1.6bil and counting, just 200mil more to level with titanic... maybe can beat it... go AVATAR...

From my view, just wanna share. This movie is not for the people that wanna powerfull plot, like 'silence of the lamb', 'the Davincci code' or others. This movie just a straight forward plot, 1 group of people wanna take other group of people(in avatar case, alien) land for their gold or mineral..(just like pocahontas)... but what i wanna say is how they tell the story, with new world, with new alien that have a heart better than some greedy human.

This movie is straight forward. Just feel how the alien being forced out of their home and how 1 human trying to help them, lead them to victory against greedy human..If you watch this movie, dont expect for unexpected plot...just go with the flow of the movie then you will know what a drama it was..... just like titanic, simple story line, simple plot, a loving couple in a sinking ship.... but the main thing that is how much love in it for each other..like jake sully love for the omaticaya and neytiri........ love story truly can take the world heart....

Agreed it's simple like Titanic, like a loving couple in a sinking ship as you said. This time it's about the same, just in a different scenario. Also, the making of this film involved really state of the art technologies... Should see the making of and also some 3rd party behind the scenes vids, the type of cameras, censors, and graphic technology they use is really epic...

Again, in every movie, there will be audiences that really enjoy it, and there will be some people who really have complicated wiring in their brains, they tend to look at too many subjects when viewing a film, eg, the plot, the technical aspect, etc etc. In my opinion, a movie should be watched just like that. If you enjoyed it, it was a good movie. But if you start to find things to complain on here and there, of course you wouldn't enjoy it, then you blame the director, the script writer, etc etc ...

And of course if you like a certain "genre" of film, when you switch to another genre because people say it's awesome, of course you will tend to go against the crowd and find faults here and there because it's actually not your "type" of film. Just like a 50 year old uncle who likes Air Supply is being told by many youngsters that Lady Gaga is awesome... he listens to it, and well, starts criticizing it. eg, oh this song has a nice beat, but the lyrics are so shallow, the instruments are so hard to hear etc etc....

Nevertheless, these people are just the small minority! Look at the box office gross..... rclxub.gif rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

One of the real & biggest reasons why industry backers are heaping greatly at James Cameron's Avatar is the new technology in shooting in 3D & the overall acceptance in 3D as the benchmark for movies.. so that in hope all movies goes into 3D (bye bye 2D).

read EMPIRE on "Why Hollywood is so quick to embrace 3D experience"

This is greatly (hope) to help reduce piracy. Hollywood is losing billions of dollars & they want a cut off from piracy. even now the tecnology players are playing to create 3D home experience via vis-a-vis new plasma/LCD/bluray & even 3D glasses.

they (hollywood & the main players) are betting piracy is unable to compete satisfactorily in 3D movie experience.

[edit for point clarity]

the hollywood exec ever learn, pirate will be able to pirate anything, every technology they have to prevent piracy have been broken in very short amount of time.

but now the problem is more on the movie theater ability to give a complete 3D experience.

it was mentioned in the long haul, they are press for cineplexes to upgrade to proper technology (currently more cinemas are being helmed to be upgraded (newer standards) in states for real 3D experience)

they hope the piracy cannot sneakily shoot from cinemas of 3D cinemas as quickily. (80% so called pirate "DVD's" are being shot off cinema's/cineplexes). those ripping from DVD later different story.

of course they cannot completly weed of piracy immediately but thats the intention of delaying piracy from making quicker buck$$$.

That's appears to be the real intention of hollywoods obsession of james camerons avatar. They will use "moviegoers expect 3D experience" to lobby more movies shot at that standard. (as mention in article)

so less likely piracy of your said newest titles will be much later than having it "yesterday"

Kinda surprised that Avatar won two Golden Globes (Director and then... Motion Picture!).

Considering the likes of other movies in the category, quite amazed. I sincerely believe Avatar represents the future of movies especially in visual effects, and and this moment, not one movie has any better visuals than Avatar. As for James Cameron winning best director - - kudos to him. No other director IMO would go to lengths he went and to make it as believable as it is. And the risk one has to endure might be too much to bear.

I noticed he brought up the "best job" thing during his speech... as well all know his dad is his worst critic and Jim was never meant to be in the movie world and he proved his dad wrong many times, and this time is also not an exception.

I did wish D9 had won for best screenplay...

Oh well... planning to watch Avatar (in 3D, again) this weekend!

Holy crap at the Box Office figures ! ...and I thought Avatar would start to slow considerably after reaching $1 billion! I am dead wrong. It is at $1.6 worldwide gross. OMG.

According to LA Times, http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-ct-b...0,1610848.story
"Avatar" set to surpass "Titanic" for all time highest grossing movie this week

And thus, the first movie of 2010 for me will be "Avatar" (or "Avadar" as Arnold Schwarzenegger says it). I am waiting patiently for The Lovely Bones.
