If you're staying aroung Taman Tun area, you might be better off going to Kepong as there are two fishing shops at Jalan Kepong with quite a selection of fishing tackles.
If you're not into mega fished and want a rod that lasts long, you can get a fibreglass rod where its very durable and cheaper compared to graphite rods.
*
Talking about fibreglass rods, i started fishing with those tho... i caught a stingray which weigh around 13kg it broke the tip of the rod shocking.gif Well, the rod was cheap, it cost around RM25 only for the rod.. And that time i had a shimanno FX4000FB. shakehead.gif to fight that stingray vs the cost of the rod... i got a total refund cuz stingray usualy sells RM9 per KG vs Rm25 rod icon_idea.gif win2 situation... Graphite rods are sometimes easily to get struck by lightning (some of those which has a sticker of lightning) when storm aproach, better hide the rod inside the boat or under some plastic coat or else it has a chance to get struck by lightning... Ok, cut the crap and lets talk about sea fishing.. anyone have any stories to share?

Would be interested to go for sea fishing but not those deep type ones as my equipment arent fit for those and i dont have a boat.
I occasionally do some recreational fishing at Port Klang just at the side and normally i end up catching 'ikan duri' or buntal.

well @ max_cjs0101 have u ever went to anglers resort at pulau ketam? i ever caught a siakap which weight around 1 - 1.5kg too there... but it depends on the water.. but u dont have to have a state of the art fishing equiptment for deep sea fishing, try offshore fishing.. about a few km from land.. rent a boat or something... the chances of getting ikan duri @ belukang or buntal is like 1% only.. the rest u may get those common ikan merah, kerapu n stingray

Went to SJMC lake there.. Apparently they have the place shut down as I heard from a friend stated that Sime Darby bought the entire place. The pay-pond owner also couldn't got to do anything and so the place is shut. They remove most of the fishes in the lake and probably left only some species of fish like keli there to roam. Went there with my buddy to fish at night, cast and cast but end up nothing in return. Though had a great time building fire camp at there..=)

Some prawning shops do provide rods but not at fishing ponds.
Fishing ponds range from RM10/hour to the more expensive RM100/3 hours.

Added on January 11, 2011, 10:13 pmOh yeah... the road to anglers resort is made of red soil and sand... so not realy ment for those lowriders.. the best vehicle to go there is either a 4x4 or a pajero @ land rover.. RM5 per rod..

popper is one of the best i guess for beginners because its easy to use, there are several ways to retrieve a popper,on rainy days you should retrieve it faster due to the droplets that hit the water surface, sunny normal days, just retrieve it in at a moderate pace.for toman you can use the froggies too: )they are good for haruans as well.or you can try minnow,i recommend rapala's crackin minnow its awesome,if you like toman you should try getting peacock bass.very good fights i mean super.anyways we can go fishing together if you want hahaha:D

Just decided to post on this thread, I started fishing early last year.
Poppers. Its quite useless as a fishing lure (but they still do get fish). The only good in it is the ease of usage, for newbies.
Btw, tomans are super rare these days, and not big too, only 2-3kgs. You sure you can spot a lot of toman at somewhere near civilization in Malaysia? All the uncles bring back and kill every single fish they get. Some anglers too, eating everything they catch, and still dare say "why no fish one, ten years ago I can get 15 big fishes, now zero fish the whole day". What do they expect? The fishes can magically breed after you take away all the adult fishes that are matured enough to breed?

Try subsurface lures, the ones just below the surface, for me I use jerkbait softplastics.
I rather hunt haruan these days. Easier to find than toman, and fun on light tackle. But I have to drive to the outskirts of town to get them, around 1 hour there and another hour back.
I hope you catch and release the tomans if you do get them. I release all the fishes I get too. For me fishing is a sport.

And the lake behind sjmc is useless. Over fished. But if you know the correct methods you can get fishes smaller than the size of your hand every few minutes, but need to use a very special technique. Also caught a crayfish there before.
