I checked out Citibank's cash rebate; doesn't seem v enticing to me esp since I ain't the kind who has balance carried forward. Might as well stick with the point rebate system *shrugs*

Just a note on CC exchange rates.

Did a trip to Singapore just recently and used my MBB CC to buy some stuff. The CC conversion rate was about 2.385, which I thought was reasonable since changing at money changer was 2.380.

Alliance has a tiered system giving up to 1.5% cashback.

@jchong,
Citibank gave me pretty good rates for HK too [and I didn't even know about the 1% Admin surcharge then]. Er.. Citibank's cash back is also on a tiered basis. At the highest tier for the Cash Back Gold Credit Card is 3.88% but that's only for those who have a carry forward balance of >RM10k.

I don't see how this benefits much cause in order to get some $, we're actually spending more tongue.gif

This kind of a system I find to be disingenuous. As you said, the user is probably paying more on the carry forward balance interest than he is getting back. mad.gif

At least the Alliance is just a straight forward cash back based on your spending.

@jchong,
It's just like the Citibank Shell card - in order for U to get rebates off the card, U gonna need to owe the bank some $ smile.gif

Alliance Bank's tier is by usage and not by carry forward balance. Different cards have different tiers too.

What is different between Alliance, Citi and UOB cash rebate. Which will more benefit to user?
Which CC offer cash rebate without Carry Forward Balance?
i heard CIMB Petronas CC have 0.5% for all retail purchase. Is it true?

@tay

Yup. Flat rebate regardless of carry forward amount

@tinkerbel

Yup until a certain limit then no more rebates. The limits depend on card type.. classic lower, plat higher. This is on top of timeless points as well...
Eyeing this card to a certain extent....

Had a look at the link and did some calculations based on the Plat card.

If you managed to spend 5k, the cashback is RM56.50 max (or about 1.13%). No cashback for amount above 5k.

I just cancel my Alliance bank CC due to poor service. Any better CC for Cash Rebate that you can introduce.

The only card from MBB is MBB Petronas Visa.

CIMB has two offerings - CIMB Mastercard and CIMB Petronas Mastercard.

Thanks David, guess my only alternative for backup CC is MBB Petronas Visa as I already had DA.

If I'm not mistaken, I came across a recent advertisement that says EON cc now offer 2% rebate for petrol purchases as well. This puts them on par with DA cards.

Anyone here saw that advert too ? (tinkerbel maybe ? .... active guest here)

In Phuket 2007 the exchange rate by Citibank cards are lower than money changer.
But regarding the 1% admin charge....that I'm puzzled because we didn't encounter that.
