This thread is a place where all Celcom Broadband subscribers gather be it to show off their speedtest results or to rant. If you have anything related to Celcom Broadband which you would like to discuss on, do not hesitate to post it in here.

The Official Celcom Broadband Thread Guideline :
1) Do not spam especially with a zero value post. Example "Today's speed is bad", if you would like to say the speed is bad at least provide a screenshot of a bandwidth test result.

I remembered someone saying that the speeds will probably improve on the 9th of May after some upgrading or something similar.

I'm really waiting for good speed after 9th May, if that is the exact day.
Though I'm in full HSDPA signal enabled area but I do not have chance to experience more than 400kbps.

Anyhow, congratulations to the birth of Celcom BB Version 2.

Well then you should get the D98 plan and perhaps you will fly with the speeds achieved with the D98 plan.

nope..mostly are from oversea..i don't know if it's related but i'm staying near Menara Celcom

There are two reasons for not upgrading to D98.

First, budget kinda tight for every month, as a student I'm studying on my own expenses (with PTPTN loan), no pocket money from parents (as they are retired already better ask them to save for themselves), pay my own bills (telephone and Celcom) and rental.

Second, even on D68 I still can't achieve speed more than 400kbps, I can foresee if I were to upgrade to D98, it is not gonna have strong signal.

Though D98 is very tempting. By the way, does 7 days policy applies to D68 upgrade to D98 package? If yes, I might consider to upgrade when my financial is a bit loose. Else, I'll terminate D68 and straight apply for a new D98 package.

I think there is something wrong with speedtest.

Transfer rate around 13-15kB/s is quite acceptable. Mind to test using Firefox add on?

Only selling things on Internet that also I'm kinda lazy. Well, PTPTN gives some extra money for our tuition fees so I just use that money as my pocket money. If really dry up already, I have to open my mouth to ask from parents but not much around RM 150-250 the most.

anyone can tell me the advantages of celcom over maxis(besides the fact that it is able to torrent)?

coz right now i really dont see any difference lor... probably the hardware wise maxis has more advantage coz the bulky one im using runs on a rj-45(LAN) which can be hooked up to a hub/switch and shared easily.. these celcom usb modems are pretty neat if you travel alot and have a lappy.. but it gets rather complicated if you want to share the conn with other pc's using ICS sigh...

Then you shouldn't be lazy, work hard to get more income for the D98.

Anyway as a student I think whatever connection is sufficient enough to be used in the campus as long as it isn't a dial-up connection that costs a bomb when used frequently.

I think D68 is kinda sufficient to me now.

Yeah, actually I have free connection at my apartment but the connection gets slower as days pass.
Complained for endless times but no action has been taken, I can't take it anymore as I need to do my Final Year Project and lots of research articles and journals are waiting for me to read them.
So, Celcom 3G is the best for me as Streamyx is not so good, we have holidays and I go back quite often to my hometown, quite wasteful if I install Streamyx.

Yea luckily Celcom Broadband works for you especially when you are getting decent speeds with the D68 plan, some unlucky ones are getting around <100kbps and that's bad.

I only use XunLei for big BT files, more than 500MB. It hogs up a lot of bandwidth and I hardly can surf the Internet though I have put the limit for download and upload speed.

on celeron m 1.5ghz, 1.25GB ddr ram. windows xp pro.

After all XunLei is known to be a "selfish" torrent program so it is no surprise that it hogs up the bandwidth, however limiting a lower connection value and also the upload speed will help.

but i wonder why my BT performance is not good.... i think celcom starting to throttle BT & other p2p....

as i got from the celcom people, celcom and streamyx dun share the same pipe within malaysia. they all join at MYIX, then go out of malaysia on the same pipe.

so, those bt mysteries could be that, those seeds/shares within malaysia will get a good speed, whereas overseas gets stuck.

Is this add-on only for XP users?

I can't install it because I'm using VISTA and it says that the add-on is not compatible with my version of Firefox.

wanna ask, if I want to apply Celcom broadband, I need a Credit card? Or just pay per momth?

The only advantage Celcom has for me is more UMTS and HSDPA coverage area.

Celcom got package where can pay installments mah. You have not been reading from the beginning rite?
Do read through the previous pages and you get a lot of info.

Yes the installment is just an "installment", it is not those easy payment plans you get from your credit card. It is just that they will include the modem's fees into your monthly fee and you will be paying it like an "installment".

in case ur cant effort to buy the modem in full then celcom got option plan for those,,just bear in mind that u need to tied with contract..i think its fair enough...

just now the signal dropped from -73 to -101.dBm, down to 1 bar only...now gone back ok...weird

just call celcom centre and they admit they got network problem from 30/4 till 9/5.. it mean they still testing their network.. so for all user will be facing unstable internet connection during this period...

My question...
Y i can't surfing although im connected when im in UMTS but if my signal is HSDPA.. no problem.. Other problem is my signal not consistent.. always show UMTS and sometime go to HSDPA where i can surf internet than can't surf when it back to UMTS...
I live at Bandar Baru Bangi and my house just 500m from big telekom building (and I expect they got the transmitter too)... and celcom centre confirm my area should get HSDPA but what i get is inconsistent signal from celcom.. weeird..

used AT+CSQ command...not sure whether it works with huawei e220 but for datacard type is working..

Well if the wired broadband still ain't stable enough to reach that kind of speed, I don't see wireless broadband reaching this level so soon.

tested in a HSDPA area

i called careline this morning and was told tat they officially switched my package to D98 fr 26/4. the reason for the bad speed these few days was because celcom faced some problems wif the bb network.
actually its true cause u guys also faced slow speed

BUT the problems is tat i am still stuck wif D68 speed. careline said tat she will forward my report to technical ppl once more to get it resolved..........LETS SEE LA.........

TS, could u pls list out the celcom users id/name here so tat we roughly knoe who is on wat package and can compare speed test wif them to chk the overall performance of this WONDERFUL service all around the country

digilife is on d98 currently but will downgrade to d68 soon

oh wait, i do remember i got those error msg when i try to install it...ok now try dis...u copy d download link for that add onn (.xpi) and download it using download manager

after that drag the completed .xpi file into ur ff browser...it will install locally...should be fine then...

try it n let see how it goes...

my celcom d98 plan test. I subcribed D98 plan recently and get actived on 28/4/08, i stay in Kepong. My download speed was maintenance btw 100 - 350kb/s. I called celcom and asked them why my speed so slow, they told me their upgrading the system and will be back to normal on 12.00pm 9/5/08. My current speed is normal for this period. I quite dobt about this, can anyone suffered this problem, by celcom their said this affect whole malaysia. pls advice

Well since they said things will be back on the 9th of May, I guess that is the moment all of us are waiting for especially those who are getting really low speeds.

but the thing is I started using it on 29/4, their proble started on 30/4. My speed never past 300kb/s, is that mean my area no coverage (since I only got 2-3 bar for UTMS), or is that becauce of my setting (using BM H-10)?

my speed now with bt turned on @ 34KB/s down and 2KB/s up...



hopefully after 9th of may, celcom bb will be smooth sailing, reduce disconnection & more stable & consistent...

but funny, i can open web pages quite fast but loading fr speedtest.net takes ages and the best was the speedtest fr mozila firefox

I don't think there is any settings to be made, just plug and play. At least for me, I didn't do any settings.

If your area is not in HSDPA area, then this incident might be possible.
What is showing on your connection interface? UMTS or HSDPA?
If it is UMTS, that means only 3G...

there is 2 possibilities

either its a network problem or ur account accidentally has been marked as d68 plan

just their careline to make sure of it

Yes, there is 5GB limited download bandwidth and two forummers have encountered such situation but the speed got throttled or not, nobody knows as Celcom claims they are doing upgrading service and everything will be resumed on 09.05.08, thus the speed some of us are getting is not so good.

And also many of them have downloaded more than 5GB but nothing has happened yet. *Touchwood* This 5GB policy only applies to D68.

2-3 bar UMTS is not strong, my room in hometown is getting that speed and it never achieve 250kB for download.
UMTS means 3G, that means you are not in HSDPA area.

I have already chat with careline, their said due to system upgrade, I dobt about it?

haha............i hav upgraded to D98 exactly for 1 week and i ady went to celcom center and make noises 2 times
those staff ady knoe my voice and face liao ( my work place is juz 5 mins walk to tat place)
now juz imagine this, i believe EVERY celcom centre are HSDPA enabled, if not where would there put those antenna and pots and pans and woks to beam out HSDPA signal, rite

currently the highest i tried of course was this 45MBPS which was under a "duno-wat-went-wrong" situation


now i am in a HSDPA area and i cannot even load the speedtest fr the site but i can surf quite fast, faster than when i was on D68 b4

as some one here hav called careline and was told tat service will resume back to normal come 9MAY, i guess we juz hav to wait till then

btw if anyone hav upgraded to to D98 , yes your speed will gradually increase on time to come, this definately is my case

from my experience...its like this, sometimes even when u r on hsdpa area doesnt mean u'll able to connect through d hsdpa network

the network will keep bouncin from 3g to hsdpa n vice versa

First of all did they (Celcom) told you that your area is in the HSDPA coverage area ? If yes then just go and complaint on this and perhaps downgrade your package if you still plan on using Celcom Broadband.

this will only happen when u are in a "fringe area" of 3G and 3.5G, it happened to me once when i was using my first D98 sim abt 4 mths back
i was using a V6 as a modem, it always got disconnected.damn frust.
then i used a nokia 6120, this fon is much better cause i can force it to ONLY use 3G and block out 3.5G and it works well even in a fringe area

Well if they told you that then it is clearly their fault for providing you with a false information. If you are not happy with Celcom then you can give Maxis a try. However if you want to continue with Celcom then just downgrade it since you are not in a HSDPA area.
