Wow , so they don't block p2p
This is amazing. BTW he is on D98 , D98 automatically hops into HSDPA whereas you'll have to use UMTS to for D68...I think they didn't enable HSDPA Mode for D68 packages...If you hop into HSDPA , your latency will be lower and overall performance will a lot better then UMTS. HSDPA is optimised as opposed to UMTS

Really ?. I thought they chuck you guys to UMTS to make way for HSDPA. As a tower can only cater 10 HSDPA Users at a time. So they will certainly give higher priority to those who are on the D98 package

yong , its weird as you are living in an area that is within Celcom's HSDPA coverage. Maybe , there aren't any free HSDPA slots in your area i guess

Yes its normal to see , maxis does this as well. If they see you are ilding or you aren't using that much of bandwidth. They would automatically kick you from HSDPA to UMTS to make room for other users who wants to get more bandwidth. If the slots all are taken up , you'll have to wait. Its because D98 package gets a higher priority. The reason why your network mode drops from HSDPA to UMTS is because of the number of users that are connected to a cell tower. Suppose if they are 15 D68 users and 10 D98 package users , the D68 users that are on the HSPDA wagon will be kicked and it makes room for the D98 users to enjoy HSDPA speed and also not to forget the lower latency that hsdpa offers

WCDMA preferred GSM preferred Only WCDMA Only GSM
That are my options. WCDMA = UMTS. So when you are on 3G and if there is 3.5G coverage in your place , your modem will hop into HSDPA

D98 is worth it if you ask me. You'll be capped at 1Mbps (as opposed to maxis , if you exceed the limit , you'll be capped at 256Kbps). But for D68 its not worth it (384kbps will be capped at 64kbps. Thats australian style) whereas for maxis RM 68 package users , you'll be capped from 384Kbps to 256Kbps

your latency is pretty good. It clearly shows that you are on HSDPA ! lower latency = faster loading times

Look celcom has it clearly stated in their ToS , that there is a 5GB cap. This is not maxis whereby they advertise 3GB and then impose a 20GB Limit (which isn't informed to the customer at all). For that you have the rights to fight , plus they advertise unlimited broadband. So , pretty much you have all the evidence that you need put up a good fight against maxis.
But fruitie , your latency is pretty good. Take a look at it , its superb.250-310ms but your speed is bad. Ey , you are on HSDPA at least. I guess either the tower is having some problems or celcom is doing something. If you notice , some of the towers are possible to upgrade to HSDPA Module but they don't perform well as a newly installed tower which supports HSDPA out of the box.

For that you have the rights to fight , plus they advertise unlimited broadband. So , pretty much you have all the evidence that you need put up a good fight against maxis. But it certainly misleads the customer. At first you say its 3GB fine , then you say its 20gb (which is tolerable) and they fail to put up in the terms of service in their site which clearly isn't updated. How in the world would a customer know that they have raised the limit to 20GB. Giving them a call ?. It truly defeats the purpose of maxis automatically redirecting us (the customers) to their home page when we're connected to the Internet. Oh well this is Malaysia..nothing.much to say and there is no point of me to justify it..pfft , we just gotta put up with it This post has been edited by prasys: May 7 2008, 09:11 PM

digi , look at the latency 192...Thats pretty good. That means you'll see faster times of loading sites and things like that. Packets are being sent at a faster rate

QUOTE(evilguy @ May 12 2008, 10:21 PM) any other isp in world implement this fair usage policy? if not celcom must be proud of themselves because they introduced such a brilliant idea. by reading the Q&A posted above about their fair usage policy, somehow i feel they really proud of that cause they successfully settle their problem. Maxis does this. In fact most UMTS/HSPDA provider does this to conserve bandwidth. you see , they aren't isps , they are msps (mobile internet service providers). Pretty much they have limited ip , limited bandwidth and things like that. Its never meant to be a mainstream broadband , its just a replacement for businessmen fruite , you should try maxis if you have 3g in your area. that is if you are willing to give up the freedom to torrent

Maxis BB as in Maxis RM 99 wireless data package - Yes no contract but you'll have to use your own data card. they don't use maxis bb routing and its world class. no torrent blocking and no funny caps. Pretty good.....

Back to the thread starter , do some homework yourself. I would recommend you to search the forums for some general ideas on how these broadband are and what are its reviews
If you are on a low budget , then opt for Maxis wireless as modem is provided and you don't have to waste a lot of $$$$ on a new modem
If you want to use your phone as a modem its not recommended - for long term use-. your phone isn't a dedicated UMTS Modem or HSDPA Modem. It would be better for you to get one.

Dlink 3G Router ?. Its just a router , you'll still need a PCMCIA 3.5G card in order for the router to work. Its not a Router + Modem. If you are looking for that you should get huawei E960 !

The problem with rapidshare downloading and iRC lies with the issue of Sharing 1 Dynamic IP. So you'll have problem accessing several sites. other then that it should be okay
