Memorize at least 100 songs. Must know how to improvise whenever. AND Must know what kinds of genre appeals to your audience, environment etc.
Hope that helps.

There is no actual requirement. You just have to know how to play the piano to the standard expected by them and the expectation cant be measure by your grades. Its experience and knowledge of yours that make them hired you. Didn't play in hotel before (Because I was lazy...lol) But used to always play in restaurant during special occasions like Christmas, Halloween, New year, Valentine(yeah...forever arone.jpg) etc..... I was once offered RM2k a week (4-5 working days only) in Genting IIRC but rejected because still attending college... I dunno how much a Hotel pays you can try asking them....

But special occasions pay me sometimes RM300 for a session, sometimes RM500 a session.... The highest is RM1k for 2 days. the pay is nice but you don't always get it. laugh.gif

you want a job, you go ask for it. Or you get contacts and wait for offer maybe hmm.gif But you have to be in the field that knows some people of course....(normally free lance musicians got their jobs through contacts and agents)

to ask for it....You simply needs to know the hotels and restaurants or cafes with such vacancy and its your job to research them. no one can really help you on that. smile.gif

But first...ask yourself....Can you play 2 hours non stop with different songs in good shape (not really perfect lar but good enough to cover all the mistakes)? If you are unable to do it, even if you get the job with poor service given...you left a bad remark in the field and most likely people will not want you anymore. The music world is cruel.

I was asked by someone when I was working part time at a piano fair helping to sell pianos. =S
First thing they asked me, "How much do you charge per hour?" =O

The piano fair performances was just volunteer work...

before you ask all these question, can you even play a simple pop song from memory? "play by ear" is the no.1 ability you need to play at hotels and restaurants.

my piano's hammers are really worn out, the keys are probably too soft too, how much do u guys estimate it'll cost to fix those?

it's a kawai full-sized upright, never been serviced except for tuning

Interval for me and look for patterns. For example, scale figuration. If it is in chord, most of the time you will get it just by looking its pattern.

Hey guys, im a beginner trying to learn how to play the piano by my self (without any lessons) so i might as well start with a keyboard. Im saving money to buy myself a keyboard to begin with. So the budget is maybe and hopefully below RM500 (depends on the brand the keyboard)
Thanks biggrin.gif

I suggest you to wait a while and increase ur budget. Below Rm500 I think don't hv touch sensitive function.

Been playing piano for 5 years and soon on June, I'll be having a piano exam level 8 for Guild.

Sometimes, I regretted not taking piano lessons when I was a little kid. XD I'm currently learning music theory, and trying to practice more songs.
