this is probably the correct thread for me to ask... (if I'm wrong kindly pls tell me)

do you guys know what's the main cause of this problem?
my upright piano does not sustain it's sound

hmm... how should I say this...
well the keys do sustain it's sound when pressed and hold
but the keys doesn't sustain if I press the sustain pedals
(sooner or later I'll have them serviced but I do wanna know what cause this to happen)
everything functions pretty well like how it should when I look at the inside of the piano

well... broken pedal / broken linkage?

arr.. nailed it.. ask the tuner to check the trapwork. if the note sustain when u hold the key that means the pedal linkage is fault... there are 2 springs (depending to manufacturer) and one of it may have broken. not really a major issue

You can start with learning how to read the score.
http://www.wikihow.com/Read-Music
http://www.ehow.com/video_2383025_read-cle...lsrc=continuous

Next is learning where the note belongs to.
http://www.josef-k.net/mim/ThePianoKeyboard.gif
http://www.church-musician-jobs.com/images...Keyboard_sm.jpg

Learn about the Middle C, people sometimes get lost...
http://www.guitarnoise.com/images/articles/1112/5.jpg
http://www.music.vt.edu/musicdictionary/te...ges/MiddleC.jpg

I suggest familiarizing yourself with reading notes and the score first before moving on to scales, chords, techniques etc. A lot of self-taught people I know tend to neglect the theory part but theory is VERY important. They can play but only simple stuff and they can't read the score. It's like "knowing how to talk but not how to read and write"...quote from somewhere...

Good luck, I hope these links are at least of some help =]

If Yamaha brand is too expensive, there is always Casio to suite your budget. Cheap and cheerful.

The theory, I don't know, since I'm still learning. The scores, I would recommend:
IMSLP : http://imslp.org/wiki/Main_Page
It has a lot of Broque - Classical sheet music, but also some from more modern times like Gershwin, etc. No pop songs, though.

Good luck!

Thanks!
I went to YAMAHA at Midvalley
DGX 505 which consider old stock no longer in production
And he recommended YAMAHA P95 (RM2880)
Do you guys have any opinion or advice?

I think it's very good among low end models, unless u can get a good quality 2nd hand one.
For the price you cant expect too much more, it's very expensive business in music instrument, I wished I can afford an acoustic piano but the price is so steep

I think DGX is a bit too soft for the key, I have no idea specifically on DGX 505, but I have tried other DGX
