This is the first year the competition segment has been introduced into the festival, and it has been designed to provide young pianists a platform to showcase their talent.
It is open to Malaysians under the age of 26 as at 12 July 2008.
This year's competition winners will win cash prizes up to RM14,000. As with the practice in the previous years, all finalists will also receive vouchers for the purchase of music books and accessories.
The first prize winner will also be given the opportunity to perform in a fully-sponsored concert at the next HSBC Classics festival in 2009.
In keeping with HSBC's commitment to nurture local music talent, HSBC is also offering financial assistance through the HSBC Classics Bursary.
Two bursaries, comprising a one-off payment of RM20,000 each, will be awarded to deserving Malaysians aged 25 years and below to study classical music in an internationally recognised music / performing arts school / college or music department of a recognised university.
In recommending the awards, a selection committee will take into account the candidate's musical potential, financial need and academic background.
The closing date for submission of applications for HSBC Classics Bursary is Thu 28 Feb 2008, and for the HSBC Classics Piano Competition, Fri 4 Apr 2008.
The HSBC Classics Piano Festival 2008 will take place from 7-13 July at KLPac.

I am learning Beethoven's Sonata #14. Done with the first movement, moving on to the second movement and I think the third movement will makes me crazy.
sort of 'retired' pianist here. finished grade 8 of ABRSM and slacking like hell in diploma. not sure when will i be able to take exam.
ever since i got my new guitar i never touched the piano.

beethoven sonata #14? never heard of it before? it is hard or somethn? i learning more on chopin etudes, there are easier i think, unlikes beethovens. XD sonata makes me crazy!!! XD

Even though you see it is easy to play but memorizing them is hard. Thus, the first movement is all about slowness and softness. That is the difficult expression to play.
Well, I do not focus on easier music. It is all about going for the next level.
hey , nice threat here ! so, i just bought a yamaha psr e403 keyboard about 2 weeks ago. actually i bought it was for self learning -piano. i don't really wana use others fuction yet cus i'm more in piano first. is there any piano songs to play for , i mean easy ones ? btw , so far i've understand most of the chords and could play many songs with chords in the sheet. what you guys think i should learn now ? notes i think is abit hard but i can translate from guitar notes that i've learn from what i;ve learn from guitar lessons. thanx in advance

Broken chords. I recommend Fur Elise by Beethoven, I know it is a classical music but it does sounds good and it is famous. Time to get your hands to move on the melody part (your right hand playing).
