Hi David, can you confirm the voice-enabled E1762 could not work with your DIR-412? And the voice-not-enabled E1762 does, either they're from Maxis or bought through third party in here? I've been meaning to get that DIR-412.
*
Both modems actually have the same Maxis Broadband branding. One is from Maxis Broadband subscription and the other from a trader who also sourced it from Maxis and unlocked it. So they must be the same. Only the voice-enabled E1762 is not working with the DIR-412. The stock one works.

Personally I feel the DIR-412 to be better than HW550-3G. The router web configuration responds quicker than Aztech's. It also has more features and configuration so you get more control on the router. The Aztech is really a simple router with not much advanced firewall controls. Just make sure it works with your modem before buying.

Thanks man!

I prefer the DIR-412 mainly because of the size. Can create WiFi networks on the go!

Yes, the DIR-412 is a very compact router with no protruding antennas so mobility great. However, expect the range to be shorter than the Aztech. Also the 412 is a Wireless N 150 so it should be operating on a single antenna. As a result, range and network speed will be lower than the dual antenna Aztech. Good side is, the 412 has the official Wireless N specifications.

One thing I like about the DIR-412 is that it is cool during operation unlike older D-Link products. Lastly it is pretty cheap. I got it from Viewnet 3rd Floor, Low Yat Plaza for RM149. Other places are selling it for RM170~

By the way, has anyone encounter this problem? As soon as you connect to Maxis network, instead of loading the www.mylaunchpad.com.my the browser responded by displaying 'service unavailable'? I seem to have this problem lately.

You can't use voice services on your Maxis Broadband SIM because only data is activated on the SIM. The purpose of unlocking hidden features on Maxis's E1762 which is supported in the first place but disabled is so that you can use your mobile phone SIM card which has voice and data enabled. Charges will depend on your plan subscription.

Maxis Broadband SIM can receive SMS but I have not tried sending one out so I can't be sure.

By the way, do let me know if the unlocked, but voice function not enabled, E1762 which you bought from a trader here works with your DIR-412. If it does I might consider swapping my voice enabled E1762 with my brother's who got his from a trader as well (but voice not enabled).

Thanks!

I encountered it this morning in Bukit Jalil. But I was at home since 4pm (Taman Midah) and things have been smooth. Maybe my call to the customer support helped. But I'll cross my fingers for now.

I think E220 maximum download speed it can support is only 3.6Mbps whereas
E1762 can support up to 7.2Mbps.

E220 (though version looks like higher but instead it is an older modem)

Probably the same as E1762 like enabling voice. I can't be sure but on another forum which discusses about 3G modem (its a ahem site, sorry... cannot mention) and E220 is still popular there. So it must be a pretty 'open' platform.

hackin e220 for wat?..just upgrade the firmware from 3.6Mbps-7.2Mbps...thats it
so precious if ur dload speed can go up to 3.6Mbps constantly, no need to go for 7.2Mbps...
