I started out with the same speakers when i purchase the yamaha in dec 2008, same placement, no obstruction to the ventilation but why the problem started only now...i agree -30db is not that loud to begin with..

Only recently? That means all this while with current spkr setup, you have no issue at all. The avr shut down might be due to overheating. This is to safeguard the amp from further damage.

my amp just warm to touch now after I use 120mm fan at the side to blow air away from amp. before this can hardly touch it for more than 5 seconds for certain part.

if ur amp shut off everytime u reach -30db even its still cold, then I think ur amp is clipping.

Don't know about others...but -30db is not loud for my case..usually my listening volume is -10db to -15db for movies and -25db for music.

I think ur amp not enough power to drive ur speakers la.. hmm.gif
*
Actually I think the volume db level is different as I have Yamana AVR back in 03 (6XX but I can't remember the model blush.gif) and my listening volume is about -30db to -19db but now I'm using Yamaha 1900 and the db level is from -23db to -4db with same speakers, so I think the db level is various for different models...

Look at the back of you Amp.

Are there any bare wire that is touching both the red speaker jack and the black speaker jack?

a word of precaution, you must quickily sought it out, whether its the speakers or amp.

bad and costly experience, my sunfire power driving the chario italy speakers, had similar problem, me unluckily same scenerio as yours, sunfire amp cut then very hot, stupid me that time no experience, still continue use,
later it blew my speaker (one side only) gave me a fright.

hmm.... woofer gone and also sunfire gone also, sent to one shop in Tun Dr Ismail, the Sharp dealer (yeap remembered JV concept) cost me RM1500 seems the whole row of transistors blew, and also the chario cast me 1k

well 5.1 spk package for 1k+ is a very good deal,
nope, haven't tested this spk series but i think yammy shouldn't be a problem at that price bracket, since all is yammy,go for the yammy sub too.
you'll certainly miss the extra oomph!!! w/o the sub
enjoy

ps .....have you tried mission 33i range and the likes of warfedale within the price range
