hi all,

wondering if any1 can help me with this...

if my speaker spec says Amplifier requirement 10-150W and say yamaha 665 rated at 90W...is it ok to pair them?

or means i need to get AVR rated at 150W?

seriously think the amp should be double the speakers rating, then you only can squeeze the juice out

It is ok. No problem. If the speaker impedance is 4ohm, then you have to start worrying as most AVR are not able to drive 4ohm speakers.

If a speaker min pwr rating is higher than the avr, then you need to worry abt clipping.

Not necessary to get a an amp with almost twice the power rating of the spkr. Moreover aint cheap to get one. A 300W per channel amp will easily cost more than your midrange avr sweat.gif

If the amp's power rating is below that of the speaker, the amp will try too hard to keep up, if you like, with the speaker which means the amp will 'clip' which could possibly cause more damage than over-rating the speakers.

For me, I'll try to get the amp that's more powerful than the maximum rating of the speakers, just don't crank the volume up too much.

Anyway, my Onkyo can drive 4 ohm speakers. whistling.gif

Should be at their HQ in Kelana Jaya. This clearance sale is organized annually. Not sure when this year.

start one bro,
for i know, they are the most affordable on feature for feature...
but for the lower range, think its too noisy

i returned the Sony 350on loan, now switched back to my old Pioneer DV-383, well the sound not better of course
But really satisfied, cause the 3900 really tremendous squeezing all the juice out from the DVD, never heard such good a sound, the bass, clarity steering effect is so enveloping

upgraded from RX-V2200 and i can say the new breed of AMP's are really outstanding

to me the newer series of amps, have really great improvements over earlier models, everyone even dealers say Yammy cant do music, but when my 3900, in their shop (doing burning-in... testing to be exact ) it makes everyone's Drop Their Specs (tit ngan keang)my dear fren (denon retailer)admited the AQ & PQ better the denon 3808
its the same for even denon, pioneer, marantz, onkyo, its really a matter of facial taste,(which design you like) and also the sonics(like it a bit sharp, smooth, powerfull etc)

so if really have the budget or Extra $$$ go for the higher model, if really cant afford slightly higher-end, Maybe tahan a bit save more $$$ and go for the next ( from say 919 to 1019 ) you will have no regrets for at least a decade of enjoyment)

addon,

previously we have amps from 5.1 to 6.1 then 7.1 ( you really dont get that type of improvements ) then you have 1st generation of HDMI 1.1, then HDMI 1.3, DTS-HD/True HD, and now the second Batch of DTS-HD/True HD ( this generation really shines....)

Sorry I dont quite get you, pardon me for my noobness but is V665 not worth to invest or should we save more to get the mid range ones.. namely those 1900 series?
