i recently been having problem with my yamaha rx-v663. Its been shutting off on me when i have the volume high, around -30db. When i turn it back on, it says check speaker wires so i redid all the speaker wires and it still happens. Im using a 5.1 system with Epos m12.2 front speakers and Epos M8 centre speaker. I was wondering if its because of too much power usage of something like that. I have also check the impendence which is set at 8 Ohm and the receiver gets hot to the touch after it shuts down. If some one has a similar problem or any suggestion, please help.

I started out with the same speakers when i purchase the yamaha in dec 2008, same placement, no obstruction to the ventilation but why the problem started only now...i agree -30db is not that loud to begin with..

got back my 663 from yamaha service centre, the problem fixed apparently the left rear speaker out-put got problem causing the receiver to auto turn-off when playing for too long or at high volume and causing over heating.. symptoms includes ... auto cut off, over heating, low volume out-put the receiver was bought in Dec 2008. another symptom lots of slight electric shocks when touching the metal parts of the receiver..
