Recently upgraded from Yamaha RXV-630 to RXV-1900. Question for sifu here: 1900 is more powerful output than 630 but why with the same speakers set, the 1900 needs -15 to -21db to reach what 630 that -45 to -40db volume level? Is it norm to have this level of volume for dvd playing?

Thanks for all the advice, I did use YAPO to calibrate the speaker setup and it is worst in the sense that I will need to crank up till -11db to get a decent volume... how I manual configure the speaker by increasing speaker level to higher to get -21db volume that acceptable to me...

What I don't understand is from -11db to maximum volume of 1900 is not very far, so meaning I'm actually turning up the volume almost to 85-90% mark to its maximum, is it normal? Does it mean it would generate more power and consume more current? As I can feel the amp is warmer than the old 630 amp....

I'm using JBL LA-880 for FS, Yamaha NS-A635A for SS, Heco Argon for CS, one cheap speaker for RC, and Cerwin-Vega CLSC-12S for SW.

Bro,

U nid to calibrate wif an spl mtr to really know wat is de spl output of ur 1900..

Most newer avrs will nid a hi db count to maintain a reference lvl.. for comparison my 7002/rotel rb985 combo is at -18db(at de cntr) for a 80db calibrated output n de max on my 7002 is +3 ... if not mistaken..

Uhm my old yammy 520 only nids like 1/3 of de twist of its gain knob (no numbers) from no output..

Did not expect to bump into you here, bro. Thanks for the info. Just did not expect the 1900 need higher db vs. my old yammy amp unsure.gif Anyway great to see you here. Will start enjoying my BD collection for this CNY brows.gif

Can anyone advise on the price of rxv3900?

Added on February 9, 2009, 2:24 pmOne silly question, not sure if it can be setup and need advise from the Sifu….blush.gif
I’m using rxv1900, my ps3 and dvd player are having HDMI input to my 1900 and hdmi output to projector. My dvd player is using component video to my LCD. Yesterday afternoon when I tried to watch BD on my LCD, it can’t unless I unplug the HDMI output from 1900 to LCD instead of projector.wacko.gif
I know if I have a 1 in 2 out HDMI switch I will have the problem solved, but I am just wondering if it is possible to have both my ps3 & dvd player component video in my 1900 and out the signal to LCD as the same way HDMI does? I’m working outstation and don’t have the manual and 1900 with me so not sure if it is feasible, can anyone advise? Or is there any other alternative that I can watch BD without reconnect anything? sweat.gif

the V1900 does upscale all analog input and output through HDMI, u can plug in the component from your DVDP to the V1900, and output through v1900's hdmi to LCD

however, since the v1900 is the media center already, why u still output your dvdp component to TV???  rclxub.gif
*
Because there is only one HDMI output on v1900 and it has output to projector already.... unless I manually unplug the HDMI output to TV, how can I watch my BD on TV since dvdp connect to TV via component and TV only has one component.... if the TV has two then I can connect PS3 to TV via component directly.... rclxub.gif

So my question is can the v1900 out the signal to LCD via component as the same way HDMI does? For not to confuse you all below is the connection that I have:

The current setting:
dvdp > HDMI > v1900
ps3 > HDMI > v1900
v1900 > HDMI > projector so I can watch dvd & bd on projector (the current setting)
dvdp > component > TV

Feasible?
If dvdp > component > v1900
ps3 > component > v1900
v1900 > component > TV then I can watch dvd & bd on TV without changing the cable (plug & unplug) thumbup.gif

My question is can v1900 have multiple input of component (video) and output the video signal to 1 device via component like the way it does to HDMI (4 in 1 out)?

oic....

from your description above...should be no problem....but I don't know if the v1900 can output HD video through component.
if you go this way...everytime you wanna watch BD or DVD, you have to do some setting changed (i.e. video output in PS3 etc.). more troublesome than plug & unplug IMHO tongue.gif

just get a HDMI spliter lar....tongue.gif
*
or v3900 w/ 4 in 2 out brows.gif BTW, any idea what is price like for v3900? Any good HDMI spliter recommented?

1) I have a Yammy RX1800. Everytime I on it I have to go to the manual setup to get PLX. Anyway to lock it in?

2)  I read some good reports on the 3900. Some of the dealers do not have it in stock. Any idea how much is it
*
Don't have the answer of the 1st question, sorry.

For 3900, I think I was told about RM5.5K if I remember correctly...

I have never used Onkyo and Denon before other than audition, so I can't say Yammy is better but so far I like it other than I hope it has 2 HDMI out instead of 1 for the moment... Using HDMI splitter has more wire and sometime does not work the way I want....

Added on June 24, 2009, 10:00 amI'm using mix of Yamaha (Front and Surrond), JBL (Front), Heco (Center), Cerwin Vega (sub) and cap ayam (rear center)... Will do the upgrade on speakers when budget is allowed....

Don't know about others...but -30db is not loud for my case..usually my listening volume is -10db to -15db for movies and -25db for music.

I think ur amp not enough power to drive ur speakers la.. hmm.gif
*
Actually I think the volume db level is different as I have Yamana AVR back in 03 (6XX but I can't remember the model blush.gif) and my listening volume is about -30db to -19db but now I'm using Yamaha 1900 and the db level is from -23db to -4db with same speakers, so I think the db level is various for different models...
