i dun understand wad u mean by "play-safe designer".they might not consider u at all mean they will straight away let enter or?
*
play-safe designers are those who keeps their designs safe, following by the rule, not willing to explore or dare something different, or in other words - skema. these sort of designs can score B or B+ easily, but very, very hard to nail an A or even A-. but by scoring A in other subjects, they pointers can go as high as 3.60 or 3.70.

overseas universities look not only at ur CGPA but ur portfolio as well. so when they review ur "safe" designs, they might not be interested bcoz they will view u as somebody who's not willing to open up to the radical ideas that they might offer. that's one of the reason why bartlett is considered one of the best school - they only take the very best students in the first place.

for the first one, u need to get accredited with LAM part 1 before u can join UTM for part 2. UCSI's degree is not accredited by LAM part 1, meaning u need to sit for exam independently. do check with UCSI in how to do this. some schools organize their students to sit for the exam in bulk.

for the second one, no, UTM or any other IPTAs do not recognize foundation programmes in IPTS. they dont even recognize foundation programmes from other IPTAs as well. foundation programme is a short course conducted and regulated by a school to feed for degree courses conducted in the same school. so any foundation programmes (for any course) u see in malaysia are normally not recognized by other institution. so for UTM, u either go via STPM, matrics or diploma.

Can you give me one of the examples in radical design? Zaha Hadid like, is it?

Which one has heavier percentage in marks, neatness, design or technical drawing?

well, remember that radical designs are not just about how different it looks from other buildings. zaha hadid did not do it bcoz of how weird her buildings look. i've been to her talks, she herself is a totally weird person with a peculiar views in life. hence her interpretation of what is "normal" often produces radical results.

when shallow wannabe students attempt a zaha hadid look alike, we academics will start probing questions on how certain form is achieved, how certain spaces were deduced and how the system formulated. these questions seek to discover how the student achieve the end product. if u dont have the thinking to support ur radical-looking design, then ur project will collapse. hence despite having beautiful drawings and design, u can still see a C- on the grades.

and dont worry about the marks. in architecture, if u dont worry about ur marks, u tend to score higher. just concentrate on developing ur passion on design! biggrin.gif

there is no UTM diploma 3 years non Part-1 ---> UTM B.Arch LAM part1(2 years) ---> UTM B.Arch LAM part2(2 years). if u're from UTM diploma, and u plan to join UTM degree, u will always join at 3rd year. if u wanna join other schools, u'll join at 2nd year.

well, usually we have 3 or 4 students each year, but i cant recall if any of them secures a place or not. usually during the sorting phase, we sift out the lower achievers so that we can choose from the very best. but there are one or two gems that usually fell through the net. if they are really interested, they'll climb back into the net like u did, sit for the interview and gets in. others who assumes that they're gems would wanna climb back in again, but probably not so lucky once they get into the interview room.

I like environmental friendly design, like Ken Yeang which combines physics concept wit a great design. Is there a book I can read up regarding this kind of thing?

Ken Yeang's books? Sustainability is important, but don't let it be the only direction for your design.

azarimy, I currently having my first architecture degree in one of the LAM recognized institution in Australia. However, I planned to transfer to another LAM recognized institute next sem. Upon graduation after completing, will I still get exempted from the part 1 and 2 exams or I have to submit my porfolio and go through a panel to get exemption?

can u name both schools, please?

normally they would just wanna see ur portfolio, which should be a straightforward process, before granting u a full parts 1 and 2 accreditation.

should be no problem. the process is straightforward - submit, review, (interview if needed), and pass biggrin.gif. it is VERY UNLIKELY that u can fail the review if u come from an accredited school.

but..if i stay at the same school till I completed my 5 years, is it that i ll be automatically be accredited without the need of submitting portfolio? And..every university in Australia has changed their final degree offering to Masters and most of them have gained recognition by AACA and RAIA. Will LAM recognize the change as well?
