Lol, the "number of hours of study per week" is a persistent joke among students. Every course outline states that you have to spend at least 10 hours per week studying beyond lectures and tutorials. With an average of 4-5 courses per session, that amounts to approximately 40-50 hours of studying per week.

No I mean how many studying hours at the University do we have(Usually)?
laugh.gif My brother asked me that so I was kind of curious to know.

Of course you and I will still have to spend time studying at home, but I don't think you need 10 hours unless if you can't solve a problem or something. Well not at my level I guess, YEAR3 or 4 maybe?

That actually depends on which course and year you are in. Generally speaking, engineering students have anywhere from 16 to 20+ hours per week of contact hours in uni if I'm not mistaken. Having said that, the number of credits taken in a semester doesn't really show how many contact hours you have, commerce students on the other side usually have 12 contact hours on average with 24 credits taken.

For the 10 hours thingy, it actually includes your contact hours in uni. So say if you have 4 contact hours for that particular subject, you should spend another 6 hours at home studying for that subject. However, like what chris has just said, I haven't actually seen anyone doing that yet lol, not any that I know of at least.

I'm doing commerce, so that's 12 hours in total for me, or 3 contact hours in uni per subject.
If you're asking about how many hours I spend at home, that's kinda hard to tell lol, of course I'll put more hours into it if there's a quiz in the following week or so ay smile.gif

i have 11 contact hrs, 3 units this semester.. also final year.. how many hrs i spend studying for the past few weeks? err.. lets say <5 hrs total up till today.. which is not good..

but, for the assignments, i spend like about 1-2 hrs per day (if i do it on that day)..

1 of the unit is microsoft excel/access 2007, never even studied that also.. so boring.. lol.. so i think it really depends on wat units ur doing, then depending on ur knowledge on that particular unit, i'll spend more/less time on it..

dont tell me if im doing, lets say introduction to computing, doing ms words, etc etc.. and they recommend me to spend 10 hrs at least, per week on revising stuff.. since i've done it before (the proper way of course, not some chapalang kampung style way of usnig ms words), of coz i wont..

so it really depends on u, on wat u know about the unit, etc.. overconfidence isnt a good thing also.. best to find out wat u have to do and then set ur target, but be dynamic... seriously, of all my 3 years here, i do not know anyone who studies for 10 hrs on a particular unit, per week.. except if its like 4-6 weeks before the exam, then i will.. haha..

*im giving bad advice.. dun folo my footsteps* *hides*

But looks like you're doing IT.
I'm doing Engineering. So ... I don't know what'll happen.
Because my dad expects me to work part time as well. So ... I need to know how much contact hours do we actually have.
But from your feedbacks I guess it should be enough for me to score a balance in both studies and working. Not sure laugh.gif

For engineering,i dont think you can work and study at the same time. There isnt much time left after you do all your weekly tuts and study.

Or maybe im just bad at time management. doh.gif

I don't look down on them. I respect their hardwork actually. In fact, I have to learn from them. Haha
I'm not even sure if I can manage to work part time to cover my expenses there(Except for tuition fees).

I just dont know what to say.

I have a China man in my team for ENGG1000.He didnt contribute anything so far.

Guess working 2-3 jobs is the reason he didnt do anything.

Im not desperate for money and my parents gave me sufficient amount.

The only reason i will work is for a dream quad/octa core gaming machine with 2 9800 GTX2 and 4GB RAM. drool.gif
