yes, i know that part quite well, you press the E (on A string) note with little finger and play a short staccato with bow, then you prepare your middle finger on C and plug with your little finger.
abt the mic u used in recording... cant u clip it to the bridge? or is the mic too big? is this the result of poor quality strings or too much practice?
can be both.generally strings should be change after a year or less with everday playing...e string which is the thinnest would usually wear off 1st

i still have my donimant strings on my violin more than a year, seems to play in tune and the windings is still intact.
the windings can come off, can be many reasons. when the nut or the bridge don't have lubrication (pencil) or the groove not properly applied, the string will stucked there and begin to pull between the nut and bridge.
but naturally, some brand can have this happed. evah pirazzi, despite a RM200+ strings, can have this happen out of no reason, and it's especially happen on A strings.
Hey guys... I'm very interested to start playing the violin ( i bought Violin For Dummies and read it finish in 1 week !! ) but I'm at a lost as to where I can rent a violin in Penang.... I dont think I should buy a violin so soon, see... ima thinking of trying it for real ( all i have is theory knowledge ) before buying one.
anyone can share their experience renting a violin in penang ?
Oh and I've gone to the music store in gurney plaza, and also La Viva Musica music school but they dont offer rentals...

Hey all, I've just started taking violin lessons 3 months back. I'm usually only free to practice at night but wouldn't want to disturb others.
Anyone knows where I could buy a violin mute? Somewhere near Kepong or Subang area?
You can head to sri hartamas, look for this shop Carismen Dolce at sri hartamas shopping center. they sell the huge rubber mute and metal mute for practice purpose. not sure they still got stock, but you can phone them first.
or alternatively you can try Euro Music, same in the sri hartamas shopping center.
hmm, i wouldn't recommend practice with mute, nor the electric violin. both won't give the best practice effectiveness. best if you could practice in day time, or earlier night in bed room, with windows and curtain closed. that's what i do. i don't practice in late night after 10pm.

friends all say piano is the BASIS of music, which i disagree in someways. haha. Havent been touching my viola, busy with school work =( wanna master my viola b4 moving on to a new instru, prolly a woodwind - Oboe or piccolo, or i can always make my self bankrupt by buying a harp! haha.
hi there!
reading this thread does make me reminiscence about my oboe which is being kept somewhere in the attic. it has been quite some time since i last played with it. i hope the reed is still useable. i guess work got caught up wif me. i keep on reminding myself to start playing and taking care of the oboe once i finish wif my studies but i guess...NOT. maybe i don't have any frens or places that i can allow me to share such passion of the oboe.
the oboe is a very unique and beautiful instrument and produces quite a different sound when compared to the clarinet. however one might get it confused with a bassoon. wish i had some experience playing with that one.
anyway im just dropping in to say hi and perhaps i'll be a regular visitor to this thread.
