i studied cello for 3 months under an ex-mpo musician, and probably learned more in technique and tone than i've learnt in 4 years of local teaching. biggrin.gif

having said that, mpo musicians are not extreme maestros, its just that their level of playing is far superior to even the best malaysia has to offer. my ex-teacher is actually having a hard time finding a place as a cellist even in a local city orchestra back in his country Germany now (he was the principal cellist for the mpo a couple of years back). such is the standard in europe.

plus, the salaries they receive from playing under petronas is obscene in comparison with other western countries. high competition lol biggrin.gif

pls share with me where is the class and how much it cost ... TQ smile.gif

Hi, I came across this forum whilst looking for a Malaysian strings forum and am pleasantly surprised!

Hehe.....a bit too lazy to go through the entire forum sweat.gif , but I was wondering if anybody could reccomend a good cello teacher and a place which sells student cello models. At present, I only know of Chambers and Bentley's. Thanks
*
Well i am a newbie 2 in this forum... i been thru couple of stores around klang valley (all the stores mentioned in Page 1 of this thread) .. n finally settle down for one 3/4 cello from PRC.
I got it from below listed store for my 11yrs son.

de music box
1-1, Jln Puteri 4/1, Bandar Puteri, 47100 Puchong
60 3 8060 0515

The guy there GREAT and helpful... as most of the stores in KL don't carry stock for a 3/4 cello.

But if you want a better one NOT from PRC; sori can't help u as i'm trying to find one too myself. PM me if u found one.

quick question to yunnie, empire and paramore:

Whom are you guys currently learning cello under?

Would be great if you guys could list down the location, music school etc. as it will be a general help to those wishing to take up the cello.  tongue.gif

Hey all, I've just started taking violin lessons 3 months back. I'm usually only free to practice at night but wouldn't want to disturb others.

Anyone knows where I could buy a violin mute? Somewhere near Kepong or Subang area?

RM1300 cello sound like Kapok (plywood) if u r really keen go Vibrante @ SS19.. ask for their discounted cello made by Scott Cao.. only extra RM500max. so tat u got no cursing !

Anyway for ur info i got nothing to do wit them... just 2cents opinion.

Hi everyone,

Currently interested in learning Cello/Double Bass

May I know the differences between these two in term of price, size, weight cause I need to carry myself instead of using car to transport it if possible.

Thanks a lot...
*
cello is ok.... price & size wise but double bass price wise hmm.gif lots more than a cello ... limited range to choose in MY .. size wise doh.gif ... HUGE.

mayb try an e-double bass.... seen one in Jln Imbi.. from PRC..... u can seen both in Euphony ... top floor next to Ikea KL. there are 6 cellos and 2 double bass there .... Have FUN.

to carry a double bass around over ur shoulder .. waaaahhhhhhhhh... u really tok-kong !!!!!!!!!! notworthy.gif

means I can carry a cello over shoulder, but not a double bass?

What is e-double bass? electronically amplified version?

considering all aspects, which one would be better?
*
yes indeed ... my son carrys it over his back from place to place ...eventhough the longest distance from Renaissance to old Saloma auditorium once due to traffic jam and no parkin space over there.

i have seen ppl carry a cello using the hard case over their back every now and then... but double bass... NOT YET.. mayb u can start it off pal. flex.gif

e-double bass is the electronic type just like an e-violin or e-cello.

dun know which is better..... i dun play them.... but my 2sens opinion... start from the basic if u r serious. For FUN .,..... go wit ur heart and the size of ur wallet ! icon_idea.gif icon_idea.gif icon_idea.gif

i prefer cello.

double bass not so nice when u perform solo to people.

but cello, u can play bach suite to people, so nice~

its much mellower, sweeter than a violin, sometimes i prefer cello sound more to violin.

double bass? nono~ good for orchestra only
*
100% agree..... wonder any of u all here seen a Luis & Clark cello in Malaysia or anyone here tested one?

double bass ..... not my cup of tea too....

i don't think anyone will take the risk to bring in carbon fibre instruments that priced from RM20k~RM30k.

for that price, you can buy some really nice wooden violin/cello.
*
i read an article... the only thing that tis poor dude managed to salvage after hurricane katrina hit his house was tis cello....and it still performs perfectly after the it biggrin.gif

like the color and design.... tryin to get more info .... wan to upgarde my son's cello soon..... wood is very subjective and i need to bring him
to Europe to obtain it and a risk of wat we will be paying too..... at least tis plastic cello ensure for its quality.... hmm.gif .

Do u agree wit me pal ?

Need help to get a replacement cello bridge pls. icon_question.gif icon_question.gif icon_question.gif

1. Prefer a value for money bridge for a full size hand made cello.
2. Perfer made from maple wood french type bridge.
3. not PRC bridges

there's no one size fit all bridge. different instrument has different curve on the belly, string height preference, fingerboard height, and sound tuning like thinner/thicker bridge give different sound.

approach a luthier to fit one for you, so you're going to be paying for the bridge and workmanship.

puchong kinrara and sri hartamas shopping center also got.
*
thx for ur help lil' ice.... i send the cello back to and asked them to change the bridge as its warpped ... hopefully they will give me a maple bridge; french type.

mayb its due to too humid lately and now i've asked my kids to on both 1.5Hp aircons to 23deg whenever starting to rain.......
