ABRSM exam fee increase now days.

can skip to grade 5 . but 6 above need at pass least grade 5 theory.

i never take any other grade except grade 8 for violin. saved me a lot of money.

I have been in this thread quite some time. You said you started playing the violin at the age of 18 and you just took one grade 8 exam. That sounds impressive! I wonder, it took you how long to get to that level?

took me 3 years.

nope, my major is piano, but somehow violin give me more feel, and i can express myself more with violin. everytime i pick it up to play, i have a feeling that "this is the instrument representing my soul".

we're talking about the grading system of those examination boards like ABRSM, Trinity, Guild Hall etc. they grade the level, grade 1~8, depends on the skill required to play the songs, sigh reading (means read taugeh and play on the spot), scales (do re mi fa so la ti do), aural (singing/hearing etc).

after grade 8, it'll be diplomas already.

Wah.. only 3 years to be able to play like a pro.. I hope I wont take too long too.. XD

Wow, 3 years..you are fast. I heard my teacher says that average is a year per grade.

not neccesary a grade per year, it's not surprising that there're a lot of 12 years old can get grade 8/diplomas. i've even come across a 10 years old kid playing diploma pieces, a local chinese kid, not some kind of angmo.

typo la it's sight reading lol!! anyway whenever i try to do sight reading and always end up *sigh*. lol~
