another thing, i'm not sure if it's common, but i find that bright STs' (smaller black patches) shells are not as 'round' or 'high' as the darker ones. but that's my observation lah, i don't know if it's true.

just for comparision, i attached a photo from other member in this forum (forgot his name, hope he/she does not mind).

within this photo, we can see there are different types of yellow stripes/lines among the ST. just wonder why? rclxub.gif

Depends on the species, tropical species is okay but not for desert and dry type. Oh ya, they are called animal protein.

Just watch their nose if there's any mucus like liquid or bubbles.

Hey guys,

Interested in getting a new tort, (I have a RES now), but seeing as legislation has been pushed thru the ST is hard to find on the market, scouted a few places today but to no avail.

Went to ikano pets wonderland and saw the leapord torts that they have, cost RM600 for one.

Just some questions, whats the difference in setup for the ST and the leapord? And is the price of RM600 worth it? Where else can i see a wider selection of torts to choose from? Thanks!
*
ST and Leopard setup should be roughly the same, the only thing that differs between them is their diet.

Juz google it and you would know how big the leopard tortoise can grow. Wikipedia states : "An adult's maximum shell length can reach a 24" diameter. Leopard tortoises are the fourth largest species of tortoise, after the Sulcata tortoise, the Galapagos tortoise, and Seychelles Island tortoise."

Google can be your best friend =)

Yeah, that is what i read, 24" in diameter that means about 2 feet. But this happens in rare cases tho. ST's would be the best bet i think for domestic rearing, as they reach a max length of 18". But then with the new legislation, where can one find them???

Its normal for Pet Lovers to play with animal's pee & poo. Sometime we need to check their pee & poo to check their conditions, sickness & etc . As the owner, we are responsibilities to make sure they are always in good conditions & healthy !

BTW what make you think that is cherry ?? I think I saw some small seed among them ( cherry only has a pitt inside) !! I reckon thats tomatoes !!

As for the high sugar content Forest species like those Burmese star in the pic can and will eat fruits with a higher sugar content with no negative effect !! Asian brown or Black , Yellow and Red -footed , elongated tortoise are some other species ( forest origin ) that have a sweet tooth !!

Just maybe the owner is giving a treat of button mushroom and tomatoes once in a while !!!

As for mushroom those oyster mushroom are a good treat if your tortoise likes it !!!
