in that question, well, the stepping and batch is the answer. thats why i pointed across the important point that you have to disregard the proc built and stepping in this equation. I was merely answering to your statement that says that

size of heatsink determine the temperature of the processor, overclockability? no but technique/skill YES !

actually i am asking about batch la tongue.gif jus take the heatsink as a standard to represent the batch only, and of course,if wan overclock kao kao sure need a aftermarket heasink la,then which of u are using 945gc board and manage to overclock well ?

why e2160 got 2 version ? one is with lower heatsink one,and one is normal jus like other intel proc,
which one is better ?
and which 945gc board is the best ?

there are few choices:

msi
abit
asus
gigabyte
ecs

which one is more overclockable? i have tried the asus and msi, they only manage to go 2GHZ with e2160,the ecs cant overclock,

give some coment pls icon_question.gif

Most of the reason why people find the Intel 945GC chipset "not overclockable" is behind it's not just drop-in can overclock. The BSEL 266MHz FSB mod MUST be done to enable it to overclock better(to at least 333MHz FSB), that's the main "secret recipe" for the budget Intel Dual Core + 945GC chipset overclocks.

I ain't too sure if the Asus board would overclock much, since it's kinda a "budget build" anyway, i would really go wif the proven ASrock Conroe1333-D667 that me, kucingfight and allenultra is using.

Of course, you can try the Asus also but i'm not too sure about it's BIOS options.

Nevertheless, with the BSEL mod done, you already have a 33% increase in speed smile.gif

Benchmark between 2 945gc mobo

using gigabyte 945gc micro atx mobo and Msi 945gc micro atx mobo with e2160 MO stepping

msi system:

e2160 @ 1.8ghz
1x 1gb kingston value ram ddr2 667
windows xp

super pi 1m = 33s

gigabyte system:

e2160 @1.8ghz
2 x 1gb kingston value ram ddr2 667 dual channel
windows vista

super pi 1m = 32s

Just my 2 cent opinion.......

Someone claim that the latest (2008) e2160 have shorter heatsink.........my theory is that intel dont want people to reach high OC level with stock cooling....???(i saw some other forum that e2160 easily reach 2.8Ghz with stock fan and stock vcore)......

about the heatsink i dunno, but e2160 that ca achieve 2.8g with stock fan & vcore is common(i got one from allenutra 2.8g stock and still climbing). 2160 to hit 3g at stock is a gem.

2.9ghz at stock vcore would be very good. smile.gif

My E2160 only managed to do 3ghz at stock vcore.
Goldfries' did 3.2ghz, kucingfight's did very well too.

Basically e2xxx max out around 2.8 to 3.0ghz for stock vcore.

well, i research bout bsel Pentium Dual Core E2xxx series, the only thing i got is how to mod E21XX series, but never E22XX series, so kinda worried if its E22XX can be bsel mod like E21XX hmm.gif

beside, its seem that there is someone using E2200 bsel mod to 2.9 ghz (well im hitting this with FSB OC), will it OCable after bsel safely? (i dun wan to fry it yet)

fyonne, u seem a bit confused here.

bsel mod is for CPU with 800mhz to be recognised as 1066mhz when slotted into the board.
it works on e4xxx series as well but not all motherboards support bsel modded CPU.

"dun want to fry it yet"....monitor the temperature and make sure heatsink fit nicely, what would u worry then?
