Guys, wif the Celeron dual-core coming into market, i guess it's time for a "budget" corner of Intel Dual-Core overclocking. Whereby you can get processor + motherboard combo of around RM350-400 and still get 66-75% overclock over stock, for almost close to free! biggrin.gif

This thread is solely for Celeron(Conroe-L), Celeron or Pentium Dual-Core and Intel 945GC chipset motherboard users, using on-board graphics, the budget crowd. laugh.gif

Let's start with myself, i've used both the E2140 and E2160 in an ASrock Conroe1333-D667 R1.0 motherboard(based on the 945GC chipset i mentioned). On the E2140, i manage to crank up a 75% overclock, jacking up the FSB from 200MHz to 350MHz before i can't go any higher, might be the Vcore as i've tried plugging in a PCI-E graphics card(so that it reduces the chance of the IGP holding back), using an IDE HDD(due to PCI lock) and am still stuck. On the E2160, it's a 66% overclock from 200MHz to 334MHz FSB.

So who else running these cheapo combos? Maybe we can start a new trend of budget Intel dual-core overclocking.

I'm in the process of updating the motherboards available locally below then RM200 price bracket and runs the Intel chipset, will update more on this first post when i get more info. Would be glad to do a review on any of the 945GC based boards if anyone is nice enough to loan me a unit other than the ASrock Conroe1333 variant.

Yay! Finally a reply laugh.gif

Hoping more would be joining the "cheap ass C2D" gang. <RM400 for CPU + Motherboard combo no longer just applies to AMD tongue.gif

Yeah... for these cheap mobo and CPU setup, BSEL(a must) and VID(in case your chip needs more vcore) is a must as can only adjust FSB and Ram Timings.

The VDIMM mod is pretty simple as long as you've got a multi-meter.

Can get 3Ghz stable? Try using aftermarket cooler or just suicide oc and get screenshot.

Depends on your chip, i had 3 E2160 hit 3GHz(333MHz FSB) stable with stock cooler and also Xigmatek HDT=S963 smile.gif

waaaa.....dual core can get till 2.7....very nice:)
last time i try e4500@2.2 with mobo 945chipset only can push till 2.4,then sanko n irenic tolld me to change mobo if i want to get better oc.hehe

It's because when you use a 200MHz FSB processor, the PCI-E would go way overclocked even at 266MHz FSB, when you do a BSEL(for 200MHz --> 266MHz FSB) mod to fool the motherboard that the processor is in fact a 266MHz FSB unit, the PCI-E will reset back to 100MHz at 266MHz FSB, the reason this particular chipset couldn't overclock high was due to a non-functional PCI-E lock

No even a little vcore change on this mobo? Hope the bsel mod can increase the chances.

There's no vcore change on the ASrock Conroe1333-D667, but there's VDIMM(there's already vmod around) and also V-chipset options available in the BIOS via 3 settings.

why e2160 got 2 version ? one is with lower heatsink one,and one is normal jus like other intel proc,
which one is better ?
and which 945gc board is the best ?

there are few choices:

msi
abit
asus
gigabyte
ecs

which one is more overclockable? i have tried the asus and msi, they only manage to go 2GHZ with e2160,the ecs cant overclock,

give some coment pls icon_question.gif

Most of the reason why people find the Intel 945GC chipset "not overclockable" is behind it's not just drop-in can overclock. The BSEL 266MHz FSB mod MUST be done to enable it to overclock better(to at least 333MHz FSB), that's the main "secret recipe" for the budget Intel Dual Core + 945GC chipset overclocks.

I ain't too sure if the Asus board would overclock much, since it's kinda a "budget build" anyway, i would really go wif the proven ASrock Conroe1333-D667 that me, kucingfight and allenultra is using.

Of course, you can try the Asus also but i'm not too sure about it's BIOS options.

Nevertheless, with the BSEL mod done, you already have a 33% increase in speed smile.gif

Just curious, is the comparison from local? Would love to check out the Gigabyte mobo from the owner.

Well.. i can always help out on the "kitchen foil mod", for a fee of course laugh.gif

Anyway... for the 945GC based mobos, u only need the 266MHz BSEL mod as you'll be overclocking the chipset to 333MHz FSB, instead of making the chip think it's a 333MHz FSB processor.

I so far have no luck whatsoever with getting my BSEL modded to work in P35 chipsets though, have to remove it only it'll boot in my P35 motherboard(s) but it works wonderful on my 945GC motherboard(s).

btw, a little silly question, is it a must we check with ohm meter after do bsel before put in the proc onto the mobo? coz i read in 1 site saying that (they r not saying it must, but they stated about it)

It is advisable, if you have a multimeter to check the connectivity of the connection before plugging in, just to be on the safe side.
