I went to the place where ass recommanded to hunt, so far hunted 5 FS, 3 female ,2male therefore i released the 3 female back and bring back the 2 male. One was larger then the other, but when let them fight the larger one without Engaging run away already ! hahaha seems that the breed there not fierce enough ~ I got a canon ixus but when i take picture of the spider it seems to be very blur ! anyone enlighten me please !!

Added on April 21, 2008, 4:36 pmi want more male FS ! AGGRESSIVE & HUGE ONES !! Does any Singaporen know where can i find FS ? XD

Which model of canon ixus are you having? All the pics which i showed in this forum i also took with canon ixus. My model is 7.5. It has macro function. Unless ur model has this function, you won't be able to take too close up.
Whatever the limit is, to take as close up as possible, you must have 2 criterias. Good lighting(even to the point ur FS is 5 cm away from a florescent lamp(i use a table light)) and non-shaking hands. What i do is i will rest my camera on something stable like the wall or floor as i focus(auto) to take the shot. Then it will be clearer.

Originally still not true chop lor.
I don't think chop vs chop can "neutralize" their skill la. Not acid and alkali man. If acid and acid, also become acid mah. hehe. Anyway, I got fight a lot of chop vs chop before and they never revert back also.

You're right, it's Phiddipus audax. I haven't seen them here where I live, so I'm not sure if I can find 2 of the same kind. I'll keep looking. It's surprising to me that the interest here is high. One of the clips shows someone keeping it as a pet in a huge glass container. Kinda make your austere blue plastic in small vials a bit sad looking. LOL.

We haven't seen chops revert back to normal, but the fact that it happened twice to Viper means that it can be repeated. It's very strange. It's similar to how a FS suddenly becomes chop. There's documentation now that one can lose it too. It gives the infectious disease argument even stronger...maybe a FS can heal from it, even though most don't. If I'm to guess, I would say that Thunderhawk now approaches a female normally too.

I think chop spiders got behavioural problem or maybe eyesight not good so just chop at anything. So far I haven't seen 1 yet.

Earlier was Kaizer, now Thunderhawk.
SpitFire also earlier very fierce in fights, chops alot during fight but later suddenly become normal fs fight with arm pushing only.. rclxub.gif

I also noticed some changes on my FS, Vanguard. After it defeated Trojan earlier, now it become scared/kecut easily in fights. I feel Vanguard might converted to chops later.
Thunderhawk defeated Darkstar earlier, now still can win against Vanguard and other normal FS easily using arm pushing only. I also feel Thunderhawk will be chop also.
I feel Fs will shopw symptoms like don't want to eat, don't want to win fight /scared easily later the FS become very hungry and start to chop attack kill for food instead of fighting anymore.

Ass: Ya.. i also feel Chop FS have some eye sight problem especially at night.. i see Nexus, Trojan, Darkstar, quite blind at night and i feel they just depend on their spider danger sense to fight and defend. Hope, Xinan and Crossfire seems ok if there are good lightning at night.

Actually i prefer normal FS tat fights with fighting dance 1st, arm pushing, grab lock, push and chops in fights instead of CHOP FS tat jump chop/bite and keep on grabbing tight continuous bite till its opponent injured or die. sweat.gif

My preferred FS fights are like Archilles vs Bighead and Archilles vs Spartan where both FS fought hard and no serious injury/ death in fight . rclxms.gif

I think chop FS have weakness in fights also. If their chop attack miss and lost balance/position, they are unable to defend properly if its enemy quick to attack back with bites on its legs/arms.
Some chop FS also quite fast run out of stamina after few times chop attack and retreat fast if their attacks failed and opponent counter attack back fiercely. Maybe some bigger and strong CHOP FS can fight longer.

ya I also prefer the normal way of FS fight. Chop is like abit "cheat"but is rlly exciting.
btw not eating and running away from other spider sounds like moulting symptoms
for example I see on discovery channel snakes will fast before they moult. They will also hide and avoid others and the outer layer will interfere with their eyesight.
maybe the chop FS trying to eat other FS to replenish energy after moulting, like a tonic.

Tonight fight kinda rush.. coz i let the FS fight late at night about 10.40pm. doh.gif

Scorpio vs Thunderhawk.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Dq18bodXMU

Scorpio didn't see Thunderhawk earlier walk direct to the side and kena chop at left arm! ! sweat.gif
Scorpio left arm injured but still fought back fiercely! thumbup.gif Thunderhawk won in the end.

If Scorpio saw Thunderhawd and ready to fight, most likely it will win. Even left arm injured, Scorpio still try to fight and didn't ran away.
Strong fighter indeed.

I think maybe after take out FS from its case, its abit wild and try to run away/hide so din really see any danger ahead.
Its better to let the FS calm abit by letting it walk on on the platform awhile or walk on the hand few times before let it start fighting.
Ya.. oso let the FS see its opponent 1st few times from far abit before let them fight. Tis way the FS will prepare and get ready to fight better.

Yeah.. fight in daytime. Night maybe FS oso wants to rest/sleep.

I don't think that is the case. Most of the time, by the time a male is chop, it would have been many many weeks after moulting.

At first i wanted to disagree with the eye sight theory. But then after thinking a while, hmm...maybe can be true huh?
Maybe chops have cataracts! But that would also means they are poorer hunters since jumping spiders depend mainly on their keen sense of sight to catch their food. But the eye sight theory also coincide with aging as most chops are matured males. I have yet to see a newly moulted(after a week) white legged chop. What is certain is that while poor eye sight maybe a cause to be chop but it is not 100% because a lot of my spiders which turned old and developed poor eyesight like Bighead, Kelapasawit, Bigguns etc never turned chop.

hehe, one more theory to chops

Btw Kelapasawit, Redleaf, Destroyer RIP

Here are some of the batches of eggs(without female) which failed to hatch

These dried up
Attached Image Attached Image
These are bighead's eggs taken out of its nest. 22 of them. All dried up after 2 weeks.
Attached Image
These had black fungus growing on top of the nest and also inside
Attached Image Attached Image

Here is an account of Viper's female's eggs
Only ONE manage to hatch! All a long i kept the female with the eggs until it ran away on its own.
Attached Image Attached Image
Viper, I think you caught it 24th March.
When you gave me already got eggs. How many days after you caught it did it laid eggs?
I first notice this lonesome fella on the 19th April.
For a few days it was inside the nest unable to get out. The female already left the nest.
I didn't want to assist it because i wanted to see wheather it could get out on its own
By 22th April it managed to get out... i saw a hole at the side of the nest and it was outside.
Today it is quite ok, i placed springtails in the container which i think it ate cuz its tummy became fat.
This one survivor could disprove that light and plastic hinders hatching of the eggs.

Wa... normally FS breakarm coz kena bite during fight.

Better be extra careful when handle FS.. they quite wild, ran fast and sometimes jump alot.

Last time i oso got one FS chop abit small size.. i open it jump and ran under my bed... i try search.. gone ady..
There are one FS also ran so fast up my hand and all the way into my shirt arm pit area.. I have to take off my shirt slowly and manage to catch back the FS without injured it. tongue.gif

Hope your FS especially LongArm can win this sat.

That spider run then one leg got stuck in web so dislocated. He was better than thickarm but cant defeat longarm. Thickarm fighting style like no tactic one, also easily scared of FS slightly bigger than him. Longarm I dunno, only see him push abit then the other spideer scared of him. I will release onearm so that he can continue the geneline of thickarm type of FS.(he caught at same bush as thickarm, maybe brothers).
Btw u aren't going to the comp?

Wa..normal healthy FS won't easily get its leg stuck in web and broke off. The FS can bite the web off easily. Unless if the FS is injured badly in fights, it might have difficulty to breakfree when stuck in web. My FS CrossFire injured after fight Hope. 2 of its leg stand up and very weak after fight. After i put back in its own case, later i open a see, one of its leg already broke.. maybe stuck in web.

I think its better put an injured FS on a flat surface without web to avoid its leg or arm get stuck. Also alwys clean of the FS web inside the FS case.

Nope.. i 'm not goin. Saw it the Aro forum, not many people confirm have FS yet. Some just start to search fs 2day n tomolo morning.

Hope u can see some large FS and exciting FS fights 2molo. Haf fun

Got pics and videos for SG FS competition? I'm eager to see leh.. tongue.gif

Since i didn't go SG 2day.. i went Tasik Perdana to hunt for new FS. Caught 9 FS!
