I think your RC is afraid of humans that's why it is biting everyone trying to touch it. This could be due to the RC was mishandled by the pet shop people before you bought the RC. vmad.gif vmad.gif vmad.gif

Taming the RC will take longer time and patience. You will need to gain the RC's trust first. I know saying is easy than doing it.

I saw that you are already putting the RC for adoption in the adoption thread. You should try to tame the RC first instead of giving up and get another hamster. Good luck!

I still have the 2 males robos that me and sangels first bought and until today they still won't let me hold them. They will puke all the food in their pouches or bite when I hold them. sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif But I'm still keeping them and hopefully will tame them one day tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif

taming an adult RC...quiet difficult...i only has experience in taming young rc..from they are still pups..must start play with them..to let them biasa with your hand smell..even with doing this..not all Rc will be tame..
if i am not mistaken. the genetic also play role..thats why when i breed rc, i breed the tame one so the potential to produce tame pups is more..

i'm not sure about this "RC daddy can help take care of the pups when just given birth"..
what i know, whenever my RCs give birth, i take the daddy out from the cage.. same goes to other type of hamsters..
i do this to avoid over breeding, and stress of the mom..

about the mottled.. regarding to my little knowledge.. only combination of mottled and mottled is prohibited..

(please correct me if i'm wrong)..

daddy rc can take care youngs..i also heard that before..but never experienced bcoz like dien did, i saperated them.this is to avoid the daddy mate again with the mommy..than you may get another litter of pups, while the first litter were not big enough yet..

Added on February 12, 2008, 12:59 ambreeding two mottled hamster are very dangerous, the risk is production of cacat pups, such as no eyes,no teeth..then this kind of pups will die

Happy CNY to everyone.

I'm back after a long month of working....

Well, I don't really have time to read everything and reply one by one.... so see how it goes, will try to reply those that need help.

Anyway, breeding is never easy, there is much planning to be made. Extra cages/tanks... food.... care.... supplies....

But most important is never breed if you do not have knowledge on hamster breeding. Breed for the right reasons. I see a few people who are breeding for quality and tameness, good for you guys and go on in doing proper breeding, concentrate on what you got. Never breed if you cannot handle death... also never breed if you got sibling hamsters..... Never overbreed.

Almost all dwarf hamster males actually take care of the young.... this I have seen before with own experience once.... but then the males just sleep on them and groom them sometimes..... the female hamster is the key care giver. So always separate your females after they have birth of have shown signs of pregnancy already. There is no need for the male to be with the young..... in the wild, dwarf hamsters live in colonies.... but they rarely fight badly since they got lots of space in the wild to escape or hide. In captivity, it is just a small space for them, so escaping fights and squabbles and breedings is just hard.

We are responsible for our pets, so we must give them a good life. Make sure you do the right thing and provide proper care for your hamsters.

Yes. She should be tired from caring for her young.

Use a treat to distract her from the babies and then pick them up. Please only do this when they are old enough to be handled.
