Hi i'm looking to buy a new LCD TV but i'm confused over which to buy, corrently we have our eyes on the Sasung 5 Series 40" which has full HD, about RM3999 from Harvey Norman but we've also come across some other brands of the same spec with lower price.

we really dunno which to buy =(

pls offer me some advice for buying 40-42" LCD TV for gaming and DVD/BD viewing
*
I'm taking that your budget is around RM4k or so.

If thats the case, the Panasonic 42LZ80MK is one of the best choices here, in regards to price and quality.
Fellow forumer htkaki is selling it for RM3.6k, great price: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/348254

Love the black levels on the 42LZ80MK, awesome for movies.
No motion blur and input lag of any sorts though, the speakers isn't half bad too. Only caveat I have with this TV is the design, it looks so old-school! laugh.gif

You have a variety of choices.

BenQ E2200HD is one of the best choices if you are wanting a 22" monitor, under the RM600 price point.
Higher up, you can get a Dell S2409W 24" for RM700 right now on Dell Malaysia official website.

Though they won't have any S-Video/Composite input to play your PS2 on, you'll need either an external TV tuner or VGA box for that.

Well, at the moment its the current Bravia V 40' that retails for RM4999 that i've set my sights on...
Any other suggestions, i.e. something under RM5k?
*
Which Bravia V are you interested on? Is it the KLV-V400A?
If it is, its one of the better LCDs around although there are similar alternatives at a lower price point.

You could go for the SHARP LC42A65M, it doesn't have as good of an image scaler as the KLV-V400A(the Bravia Engine 2 is pretty much one of the best on scaling low-res visuals on an LCD). Black levels isn't as good either, but doesn't fare too bad. If you aren't a movie enthusiast who absolutely must have a true cinematic experience on a TV, go for the SHARP.

htkaki is selling it for RM4425: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/666278

ty..ty.. can u tell me wat the better alternative??

Panasonic 37LZ80MK: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/348254

Unless you are looking for a Full HD panel, the 37LZ80MK is pretty much the best you can hope for in the 37" TV sector(not counting Full HD models and other sort of things). You can also head for the SHARP LC37A65M, but should most probably be a little bit expensive. Trade off is you get 100hz motion.

Panasonic makes some of the best LCD and Plasma TVs around. They aren't that popular here because our best friend Samsung monopolize everything here.

That's because people like buying cheap old samsung models TVs than new panasonic models TVs for the same price if not slightly more expensive.

Oic thanks!! notworthy.gif

Btw with the Dell S2409W 24" how does the HDMI support the audio since the monitor doesnt have speaker....without speaker then even if i insert the external speaker most likely the HD audio will fail due to the HDMI connect to the monitor....is it? hmm.gif

and one more thing does any monitor or vga box thing able to support component cable? and is there any difference between Dell G2410 24" and Dell S2409W 24"? Thanks!!

You mean Dell S2409W? According to the spec it does support 1080p and it has HDMI connection. Costs a lil bit more than T2200HD.

The Dell S2409W has an audio out input, which you can connect directly to your speakers. However, there are issues with the audio fading and fading out. Best would just to be connect your PS3 directly to the monitor via HDMI, then use the A/V audio cable to your speakers. If you have 5.1, use an optical cable if your speaker supports it.

No, majority of monitors does not have component input at all.
VGA boxes usually have inputs for component/composite/s-video, look around.

The Dell G2410 is more expensive than the S2409W, mainly because it is a "green" LCD monitor. Using less power and whatnot.
More info here: http://www.surfloft.com/review/2009/02/del...cd-monitor.html (by me biggrin.gif )

The BenQ T2200HD supports up to 1920x1080 resolution, which is its native resolution. 1080p, just the same like the Dell S2409W.

I forgot to mention there are also alternatives like Viewsonic VX2433WM, selling for about RM750 in LYP. It also has rather good color accuracy, pretty much no input lag and motion blur. The only caveat that I have with it is that it doesn't have all the main 3 inputs I want(VGA, DVI, and HDMI).

Same here. The senQ staff show me the difference between all the model and darklight quality on the TV.... seriously I didn't imagine that the sony and samsung HDTV looks sux in the dark...the picture have too much white spots due to boost the dark image....other than that the rest is ok...

wait a minute...did i just said HDTV? I thought the post here is about LCD monitor....why mention the Sharp Aquos in the first place... shakehead.gif

Thanks for the reply. notworthy.gif

So here the question...is the A/V audio cable to speakers you mention the same thing as the DVI? I plan if i get the monitor i will get the logitech Logitech Z-5500....still do i need the optical cable to boost the HD audio? What about headphones? does it get affected too? rclxub.gif Thanks.

No, not the same thing. A/V cable is the composite cable that comes with the PS3(Yellow, White and Red).

Since you're getting a Z-5500(zomg!! awesome!), you WILL need an optical cable. That is for connecting your PS3 to the Z-5500 speakers, and the HDMI cable from your PS3 to the monitor.
