Actually you do not need to upgrade your gc every year. My humble 7900 gs have better or equivalent graphics capability as PS3 or Xbox. Gears of Wars or older games such as Prey and Condemned looked better on the pc. Don't forget if you want to run next gen console you'll also need next gen tv which still cost more than 2.5K. If you use old tv, the graphics will not be as good. For PC I can even run it on my good old CRT monitor and they still look better than normal tv.

well nowadays LCD are better than CRT a lot
a 24" LCD monitor should pair well with x360 and ps3, and also pc gaming.
again ppl who play console never bother about graphics... as long as it looks decent enough its ok alrdy

i am sorry for bumping up this old thread. Need advice on whether it is still a good buy for PS3? Already 2 years in the market and so far no pirated games yet (buying games could be very expensive)

i am also worry about the constant upgrading of PC, which again is very expensive but the games are cheap or free. and I get to play real time strategy games. (is there any RTS for PS3?)

or should i get xbox360 instead? sweat.gif

If all you're interested in is pirated games, then the PC is the best bet. More RTS and more genres. The PS3/360 is more limited in that way, and you need a HDTV to enjoy it properly.

Most Malaysian 360/PS3 owners I know are original gamers - they buy/sell/trade with each other, so it's not too bad.

yes its true

for original versions:
PC = RM3.5K + RM1.5 every 2 years + RM2xx per game
PS3 = RM1.5K console + RM2xx per game (10 games RM2xxx)

for jack sparrow version:
PC = RM3.5K + RM1.5 every 2 years + RM88 streamyx for downloads + RM2 per dvd
PS3 = RM1.5K console + RM50 per game (estimate for 1 game sell in average shop)

which one path you choose ?

so, make the company that create game closed down are...........priceless?

for me PC always defining the Graphical superiority in Games. Most of Game Dev will think this first before anything else

but on console, Creativity is the first thing they trying to pull when creating a game

I go for both. Some games like RTS and FPS are more suitable to play on PC.
I can get a monitor with multiple input to enjoy both ps3 and pc hi-def graphics

i'd rather play games on my xbox.
my laptop is getting old,and i only got at 2 years ago.though it still plays team fortress 2...

from my point of view,the xbox gets as many games as the pc and more,and gives you no troubles that include crashes,low specs,and low framerates.
it's always constant.

playing with my pc is always a bother,and when i think of playing spore or tf2,i keep thinking "do i really want to go through all the hassle just to play that one game?"

for example,i have to close all background apps and set my OS Paged pool memory just to play tf2,and i still get struttering and lock ups.

whereas on the xbox version of the orange box,i can just slap the disc in and just jump into a server almost instantly.

and oh man,don't even THINK of making me bring up guitar hero 3 pc or crysis.you don't wanna hear me rant...

LOL

but for now..i think one of the biggest issue for PC games is...the irritating DRM .

Yes, you can installed the games 5 times...but since PC also got the tendencies to fall apart, the DRM is quite a nuisance

Example, Bioshock for PC need to activate it online and has the 5 times install limit . But on the Xbox360, you dont need to do all the stuff. Just put the disc and you are ready to play the game.

this is one of the reason i prefer console game eventho it more expensive than PC games

I'm the one from PC gaming to Console gaming. Personally more prefer console gaming due to its superb graphic, smoothly gaming experience, and feel very good and nice when you're holding a controller instead of keyboard plus mouse.
For PC gaming, yes you do need to upgrade your PC such as processor, graphic card, hard disk, bigger LCD Mornitor for better gaming experience and to play the latest games. In my point of view, I better use the money to buy more games for my console and a medium spec PC already satisfied me.

No doubt, people nowadays can't live without a COMPUTER. So that is very difficult to compare between them.

i was a serious console gamer during those snes and genesis era, then change to pc gamer during the late 90's when the pc gaming industries start to boom. stayed pc gamer all these years from those earlier pentium pro cpu until p4 era. then i got tired of spending bucks of updating my pc to keep on playing all the latest game. i think if i calculated my spending for my pc i have spent over RM15k for the last 10 years. then i bought xbox360 (my first console since snes) and converted to console gamer.

i think pc gaming is for those who are prepared to spend a lot in investing their pc. for me, i'd rather spend rm1.5k on a console which will last for at least 5 yrs than keep updating my pc every 2 yrs or so. but i do sometimes play rts on my pc since it's ridiculous to play rts on a console

Totally agree with this statement. PC suck big time compared to a next gen console. There seems to be a conspiracy between Intel and GPU card makers to force consumers to keep upgrading their PC every 2 years. Why waste all that money on upgrading your PC when you can buy more games for your console.

Somemore,nowadays game developer only design games for console,and they dont want focus on pc gaming anymore(except crysis),most of the developer just port the console version title to PC,so the graphic definately lose to console.From example the PC version Call Of Duty 4 graphics is so lame compare to Xbox 360 and PS3 version.Honestly,eventhough you run COD 4 on high spec PC the graphic still lost to Xbox 360 version(or ps3).Console is designed for those who want fun and High-end gaming as well.PC is only suitable for playing the games like "Dota",and all those chinese online gaming which dont need high-end graphics.

You have to be joking right? What graphics card are you using to play COD4 on a PC. I'm using 8800gt and the graphics is superior than PS3.

For your info, I've a PS3 and I have the original copy of COD4 on PS3 but I sold it an bought the PC version instead. To say that PC is only suitable for games like Dota or all those chinese online games is an ultimate insult to pc gamers.

It all depends on what type of games you're playing. If you're interested in online, strategy or FPS, PC is a better choice. I do admit that the next gen console have equivalent or sometimes better graphics than some PC games, esp. MGS4 (wow!!!!) but if the port to PC is properly done, eg. games such as Gears or Wars, Mass Effect, etc. the graphics is much more better than the console version.

Anyway, this is a stupid thread. This type of thread will pop out once in awhile. If not console vs pc, its Xbox vs PS or Nds vs PSP, etc.

Its like comparing your d ick is bigger than my d ick. There's no answer. As long as you are satisfied, whats the use of comparing.

I think if you wanna compare the performance .... the best is to compare the date. Compare PS3, XBOX 360 and Wii according to their release date with the same PC parts. Its not fair to compare those console to today's Nvidia GTX 280 right?. Thats because PC parts are getting faster and faster every year.

Awesome i 2 facing the same problems . Well from my point of view both this machines are different in every way , both has its pros and cons u may say PC wastes money on upgrades but look at ps3 200 bucks per game lets say u buy a game a month that would mean 200X6month= RM1200 .

True, plus you can't play exclusive console games like Metal Gear Solid 4 on PC.
