So i recently bought my PS3. Having real fun with it, turning it into a dvd player, blu-ray player, messing with the media server, streaming songs, videos, animes, playing games, surfing net etc. Until ive come to a point thinking i just turned my PS3 into a full fledged media center WITH games.
However, I have friends having different opinions about my PS3. They say PC is still superior because it can be constantly upgraded and customized (ie. upgrade Graphics card, processor, RAM etc.)

So, what do fellow LYN think? Are Next-Gen Consoles(PS3, xbox360) Superior? Are my friends just jealous of me proudly owning a next-Gen Console? Or are the two things really different that they are incomparable?

PC ability for upgrading and customizing is a double edge sword. In one hand, you get the benefit or modding and customizing your PC, but you will splurge more money for that. Where in game console case, the system is created to last for several years without ever having to upgrade or changing to the newer games or functions.

Thats why I hate PC games, coz they always make new games based on the latest graphic advancement, which makes your expensive graphic card outdated in less than a year.

PC is superior if you're Samy Vellu 's son.
For of us normal folks out here, PS3 beat our PC hands down. For PC every 6 months you'll have to upgrade to stay at the top, hardisk, RAM, Graphics,.. etc you get the point. Then the matter of maintenance as in defrag, antivirus, anti-spy etc just so the PC in tip top shape plus the geek knowledge of overclocking , cooling etc.

So for PC to be superior to PS3 it'll be like akin to a human bodybuilder keeping shape eating 12 eggs per day, RM5++ per day of diets and supplements, weight lifting etc. Our PC is like couch potatoes only, fat and lazy. While PS3 is like a Cyborg. Can't grow much can't loose much.

just an example.
PS2 is released on 2000.
what u can do with ur year 2000 computer now. and now PS2 still kickin ass.
i rather buy console than a PC that need an upgrade from time to time.waste money so much.but that's my idea...different ppl, different thought.
everytime u bought a game...one thing that play in ur mind. "i hope my PC meets the requirement to play this". but with console, just buy any games u like.if u love strategy games..i dont think it needs so much powerful PC to run it.enjoy ur strategy games with an ordinary PC(obviously now everybody owns one) and enjoy other genres with ur superb next-gen console and last's for next 6-7years.

I'm a recent converter from pc gaming to console gaming and I think it's not so much a question of which one is superior, but how much money you can afford to spend.

But if you look at it from another different perspective, which one do you think is superior?

a) something that can play current games at maximum settings and high framerate for like one year before you need to buy new components to keep it performing at max settings and high framerate

or

b) something that can play current games that dont even have to set maximum or minimum, with high framerate and exclusive titles for 5 years?

I am seriously sick of having to upgrade, and worrying whether my pc can support or not with every new title that's gonna come. I am also sick of lying to myself saying "oh still ok what the framerate" even though the fps meter says otherwise.

first console will win, next 3 year PC will win, after that new next Gen console come and console will win again..then after 3 years PC will win.....next after next will come, then bla bla bla....PC vs Console= endless war
but for only playing game...console will definitely win...

Expensive + powerful + lots of worries + constant upgrade + compatibility issue + better control for FPS & strategty ( mouse & keyboard)= PC

Affordable + Fun + No worries + convenient (no need install) jus insert DVD + Lots of games + Graphics (par on par wif PC)+ rumble joypad = Next gen

Hmm.. Well tats my point of view.. hehe..

Well times change, PC gaming sux in meeting customers satisfaction. I want to play Crysis.. but the hardware upgrades are too much.. (Unless u won a lottery or kena jackpot )

Console is like 3 in 1 nescafe.. Jus pop the game disc in the tray and u r ready to go. So wat if the console has 2-3 yrs life cycle.. By the time comes , they release a new better and powerful console.

Both of it completely different I must say. As for PC gaming involves more key functions and strategy settings while PS is more into single role playing enhancement.

Anyhow, they are different.

They are 2 different thing! Gaming console is just for gaming + some multimedia stuff! PC has more function than just gaming, u get to do graphic, codings, +++!

If u want to compare game than i would said console way better than PC! Although someppl may argue that PC has better graphic cards and stuff like tat but wat it is the used of better graphic when u dun have much game to play with! U end up playing one or 2 very good graphic games while others just so so onli

biggrin.gif True...true..

OK, PC vs. Consoles is one thing.

Xbox 360 vs. PS3 is another thing.

PC vs. Consoles
[Consoles wins hands down] IF you can't afford to upgrade every now and then
[PC wins hands down] IF, well, you're a rich man's son (or you can turn down the details, in this case, you lose)

Xbox 360 vs. PS3
[Both consoles wins hands down]
Why ? Taste. Do I like Metal Gear Solid or Final Fantasy. Eeeww... eat my dust! I mean, I don't play them. So, its Gears of War and Halo for me. Its just taste.

HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray
[Blu-Ray wins] BUT if you want HD quality movies, then both would do the trick. If you're "richer", go Blu-Ray

Uh correction, PS1 lived for about 5 years, PS2 lived for about 7 years, PS3 is rumoured to lived at least 10 years. Before that theres Sega dreamcast, NES, SNES all which i believe have lived at least 5 years or more.
On the contrary, PC can only 'live' a year or so, cause after that, like the many have said, you'll need to upgrade it.

But money aside, For the same price, (cheaper in fact) you get as many functions in a Next-Gen console as in a PC! xD

The PC wins hands down, only because it is an evolving platform whereas in between generations, console technology (released that is, not in developement) stays constant.
