A couple of questions before upgrading my hard drive:

1) The backup utility will save backups as a single file or multiple files? AFAIK FAT32 only supports 4GB for a single file and how this is handled by PS3 as I think my resulting backup file will exceed 4GB..

2) Are the profiles/gamesaves/etc2 will be backed up by the utility? I have a few profiles in my PS3 (friends' & housemates') and I afraid the profiles/gamesaves will be lost after upgrading..

3) How about my linux partition? Will it be backed up as well?

thanks

1) Multiple files.

2) From my own experience, game saves is backed-up. Don't know about others though. Purchased games also backed-up perfectly, can restore to same PS3 unlimitedly, and to different PS3 up to 5 times. Profiles/ID will not be backed-up, because those are stored in the PS3's built-in memory. So if you want the same ID in different PS3, you have to re-create it.

3) Sorry, no experience.

I have upgraded mine to 160 GB, all went fine.

NOTE: You'll need an extra external HDD for the backup though. You can't simply use the backup external HDD as PS3's HDD. Backup to a FAT32 external, swap HDD with the new one, format, restore, done.

Concerning number 2): So that means gamesaves for different profiles all can be backed up and restored on the same PS3 without recreating the IDs?

Thanks again smile.gif

On the same PS3, yes. It did back-up for me.

In other words, there was no different whatsoever to my PS3 after the HDD upgrade. The only difference is the HDD size.

Hope it will work for you to.

^what is your setup? if play in small room or desktop setting, consider 19", 22", 24" LCD monitors. BenQ 19" fp94vw is RM650 while Dell LCDs are also good value for money.

if living room, best get a TV LCD, they discuss it here

best go window shopping. look at those PC LCDs at shops, look at those TVs at shops and estimate the space needed to suit your room.
