THANKSSS BEASTX, i will wait for 2 more days for my exam result.. if all pass, graduate, WALAH~~ V35 in SARAWAK!!!! yiuupeee~
Ok just check a web site... It cost 3.4 to 3.8 million Yen for the 350GT V35... so RM 132k to 148k (at present ex-rates, was only RM102k to RM114k in late 2007 or early 2008)... Sarawak... fellow E.Malaysian... suffers unreasonable cabotage charges in shipping.

owh ok..but, based on the info you've given, i think tax should be around rm25k after rayuan...try the calculator again and see how it goes..try 25% of final tax deduction..hmm try to make the time length goes further (you know how the exponential curve works dont you?)...when are you going to bring the car home? well just info my mate brought his caldina and it costs him half of the price of caldina here..

i haven read through this thread yet but wil do it soon
basically i am a student studying in australia, i want to buy a honda jazz and drive here, then bring it back to malaysia when i am done with studies and go back. my concerns are:

1. how long do i need to own the car for before i can import it into msia?
2. i saw that we can appeal to get the tax back? so all in all roughly how much is the import tax like?

thankss

(update: i called an agent in sarawak, was told even 6 months mayb enough)
import tax? the formula is already given, http://www.floristhut.com/taxkastam.htm
tax return, no such thingo. (i think)

From wat i experience, honda jazz is not worth the hassle.

Added on July 15, 2009, 3:48 pmcalled miti and custom, confirmed with a 'inside-friend' for tax purpose, checked with import car dealer, after much consideration, it is just not worth bringing back any car, UNLESS it's a exotic/really expensive car..

it's just not worth the hassle.. and even if u got connection, dealers are able to match your cost of bringing any car in, coz reasons you-can-imagine..

If u still wanna go thru the troubles and get your own imported car, australian ppl can just forget it, GO JAPAN~~

i will wait for yen to drop, and import from japan again, much better overall route..

Suggestion to future ppl who consider to import your own car, steps:
1. find out the tax tat u gonna pay, using the provided calculator by floristhut (really easy), call custom (03 88822100) to confirm the tax payable (they R really helpful). (U ONLY NEED TO KNOW THE CAR ORIGINAL DOCKET PRICE.. USE GOOGLE)

2. go google import car dealers in malaysia, look for price selling of your wanted car. (or call them to try haggling, it's worth it)

3. compare the price dealer selling and your total cost to import (car price, shipping, tax).. and see how much money u can save to import yourself, COMPARE to the hassle u have to go thru if import your own..

4. Decision~

West malaysian are lucky, if any east malaysian need some help? pm me~

u forgot to take into account the money u gonna get when u wanna sell your car, and how big is the market.. Also, these cars are 5yrs old+ (or much more), value will drop faster due to higher possibility of breaking down and so on..

so, at first, i was voting for rm300k+ cars, but considering u can always buy the 'so-called' performance car priced around rm100k, might consider to have both in my garage rclxms.gif

now, how should i convince my dad doh.gif

Hi,

I want to know what is the actual cost of living with a beemer. Lets say I can get a used E90-93 around £6k. But I actually am not sure about the cost of owning a car. And to make it slightly harder, I will be based in Kelantan. Where to service the car there? I know Merc cars are easier since there are dealers almost every state. Not too sure there is a BMW service centre in Kelantan. and I don't like mercs. The only merc I do like is the new C-class, but thats more expansive than the current beemer (not the new facelift model). So, I really can see the point of importing if you just want the badge. If not, I'm happy to save money and buy a new entry level Honda city.

Mind sharing your experience. Cause the way I see, the cost of importing a car back is not really as cheap as people say it is. There are loads of taxes and that living cost.

Thinking of a brining back a 320d from UK age <5 years old

Thanks

Dear BeastX,

Hi. I'm currently a student in the US. I've been using a 1994 Ford Thunderbird V8 4600cc for 1.5 years now.

I bought it for US$750.00. How much total tax do I have to pay to bring it back to Malaysia? Should be cheap right, since it's 94' car? It was US$20,000 when it was new in 94.

I'm kinda attached to the car, I would really like to drive it in Malaysia.

Sorry about asking you about the tax, I'm quite blur about it.

Thanks!

Thanks BeastX!

In that case, I don't think it's worth it to bring my car home. Plus the road tax would be crazy anyways.
