beastiex

thanks again for the info rclxms.gif ....greatly appreciate it...yet to decide on wheather to get the 2.0 or the 1.8 type...will keep ya posted when i have gotten the car....thanks again...

cheers
*
if i have not mistaken no tax difference between 2.0cc and 1.8cc as it is rated such:
1.6cc and below-->150%
2.0cc-1.8cc-->157%
cant recall the remaining tho

i think in your case the depreciation method will be taken into account since the latter method is likely to be "under-valued"??(the custom said this wth)

your nissan would be sweet but the tax will include the shipping cost as well, not sure how its calculated, but yeah just got my car sorted out and the tax is car value+shipping cost(something like that)...based on my experience thats the way it is.
but dont worry since it is 18years the tax will be at most 10k...but im pretty sure it will be way below that coz mine is 19years lol and still sweet roaming in Malaysia (mileage just 145k so i think yours may be around this figure)

just sharing my experience

btw about the expertise programme...man, u gotta find the sweetest car around, if ive not mistaken there will be no tax geezzz...how about merc slk230 haha...i wish i were in that position lol..go to MITI website for the details

The cut off is at 1.8L and below will have the lowest tax... a 1.8L engine will be 1.79xxL (below 1.8L) a 1.6/1.5/1.0 or even 850cc all will be at the same tax bracket as a 1.8L engine (150.25%)

So you did not appeal for a further cut? Same nissan? Shipping is RM1200 from Australia.. So even your car (1.8L) is worth RM0, You still need to pay the minimal RM1803.
*
i did appeal, however now the appealing process is kinda strict and can only be approved by head of custom of the state (which ketua kastam selangor in wesport for my case)or the putrajaya headquaters and got it sorted successfully...btw mine is toyota..i reckon tax value between 18 and 19 years old car does not differ quite much...

let say the shipping cost is rm1200, im pretty sure you not paying rm1803 for the tax, it will be way lesser than than haha!..if in your case of a nissan worth rm0(someone gave it to you maybe), custom will use the depreciation method coz as ive been told the tax will be never gone to rm0
ive been looking for my tax calculation method by the custom but i think they took it for the clearance purpose at northport wth (they wrote it at the back of the K1 form)

btw anyone interested in bringing car back from japan?.. pm me and i would help for the tips and info, but in exchange of a bandai gundam unicorn mg and a bandai flag 1/100 hahahaha =p lol (i did all the AP-K1-Tax Appeal-Puspakom-JPJ paperworks myself and only used agent for the port handling and container)

You pay twice.... though other countries' tax is miniscule compared to Malaysia's
*
well for my case, i didnt pay any tax when shipping out from the country and only got taxed in M'sia (2nd hand car maa)
on second thought yes i did get taxed twice if you are considering IF the car just arrives to the country (in GST maybe) and then gets taxed in Malaysia (AP) cry.gif ..anyone,do get me?
BTW yes BeastX i get you regarding the CIF value (it is really a pain in the ass tho) and you are right! rclxm9.gif
but when i recall the process, the custom officer did write something about the shipping cost which is something from usd seafreight whatsoever then he converted to RM, then he added to the total tax. and i didnt pay attention really much tho. oh well wth cant be bothered... whistling.gif

metalworm86, check how much is the car in malaysia, check whether it has 2nd hand value then have a deep thought..for my case i find it really worth bringing it back...some car have outstanding high 2nd hand values even tho they are aging!
owh PG will soon come out? hmm, PGs too big, i prefer MG tho-just nice for display!

Erm.. I'm still having trouble to estimate the tax. Say i gonna import a honda s2000 frm nz, wat's the tax i need to pay provided the initial price was 79k nzd x 2 = rm158k at 10 years ago? I bought it for 19k nzd over here.
Also, as it is made in jp, so it is entitle for the rebate of 25% off the new price?
*
so you are from nz? which port are you leaving? Lyttleton? Auckland?

*
yeah true..sometimes the conventional system for numbering engines varies in few countries(some drop the alphabet identification eg GE). check it by eyes.

i found that the docket price is much lower compared to the price in the pdf file provided by kastam,
For eg; pdf file price for MERC BENZ,C 200 Kompressor,Car,1796=RM120,526
but the real doket price only E17700, refer http://m4j1h4.fotopages.com/?entry=1098193

anyone have any idea?
*
i dont know, but where did she get the docket price from? is that a reliable source?did she state the source form the calculation?footnote etc?
the pdf is definitely from Kastam, well for me it looks authentically straight from them
just my 2 cents

hahaha, too lazy to calculate eh? haha..nevertheless the bumps are there ie 2.0, 10 years, kinda affordable for tax..but in yen hmmmm...hope either you have lotsa cash or yen will depreciate soon!!!

hmm i would say the tax is roughly at rm20k-25k, given that tax appeal works fine, well this is just my opinion.
regarding your radio frequency, just get a band extender if you love your radio that much. if i were you i just get a mp3 player, less hassle, cool features etc. there are lotsa choices in the market, simple as

yeah since you are from japan, would you mind checking the price of 1/100 MG Unicorn Gundam and 1/100 HG Overflag (in RM)? hahahahahahah brows.gif .........
sorry beastx, couldnt resist the temptation kehkehkeh icon_rolleyes.gif

not worth bring back car yr 91, this is due the car tax reduction is not linear correspond to age of your car, refer the following graph: tax vs year so u can see my point, juz my 2 cents

user posted image

the best age to buy is 5-7 yrs old car, after that, dpreciation will not have much difference.
*
well not really, isolated cases of few nineties cars still worth up till RM40k-50k in msia (been researching on japs cars, dont really know about contis)

If we are talking about "amount" of tax to be paid, definitely it varies depend on many parameters such car price, cc, etc. However if we talk about "percentage" of reduction, whatever cars you plot, it will give a similar to "minus exponential" graph as shown above. This means, the "percentage" of reduction will be the same. Thus , whatever car u bring back, the tax for the car after certain period(>10yrs) will not differ much due to minus exponential curve.
*
kudos2, you did your analysis in detail, awesome..
regarding the exponential relationship, you have explained the amount of tax and reduction of tax very well and i acknowledge it undoubtedly true
well how about getting a 15 year old car like FTO or something which has very low mileage of 45k haha, worth isnt it?....btw just my opinion hehe

AP=Approved Permit...
when a permit is given i dont see why its impossible, given that u got enuf cash lol..unless you fail to understand what a permit is lol..so stop exaggerating this and that, make your own homework so this thread can be very useful to some people..if i were you and wanting to keep myself whining, what about buying a persona then wait its electric window to self-deteriorate lol...
heres a good tips for you->GOOGLE everything on the word student Ap or surf into MITI website under document 11..if you get the rough idea then come back to discuss with us...

btw regarding your nsx or whatsoever..i got a few mates bringing 90s cars and they are still much cheaper...so i dont see why you cant where else few people nailed it....

man..beastx, i respect your effort to answer every question asked here even though its supposed for them to find the answers themselves ie tax(even with the tax calculator is THERE!),procedures(where they can find it at MITI website), and some other stupid ones..i think we should tell them to look into the procedures themselves them come back to us to discuss the details...

takuntung..keep up the analysis..i find it very useful cheers..

guys..good job everyone!

man its good to be back after a long break..hell yeah!!!

but i know what an ap is
in fact my uncle is in the business of selling those sheit but i have never been able to fathom ur eligibility for the thing je
smile.gif

and i know about the student AP thingy where one student gets one and once u have that contraption with u, u cant change the car title within the next 6 years etc...
but yeah, i think i still need to do loads of stuff
yet since u mentioned that ur mates were bringing in 90's car, i think i might have a bright chance
will give this a greater thought then

and for beastx and takuntung and others who've helped make this thread easier, thanks dudes
p/s: i hate the tax calculator cuz i dunno how to use it so sorry graham

oh wells...

owh ok..but, based on the info you've given, i think tax should be around rm25k after rayuan...try the calculator again and see how it goes..try 25% of final tax deduction..hmm try to make the time length goes further (you know how the exponential curve works dont you?)...when are you going to bring the car home? well just info my mate brought his caldina and it costs him half of the price of caldina here..

every few pages, there will b someone asking same Q, and same A given.. 9months+
(update: i called an agent in sarawak, was told even 6 months mayb enough)
import tax? the formula is already given, http://www.floristhut.com/taxkastam.htm
tax return, no such thingo.  (i think)

From wat i experience, honda jazz is not worth the hassle.

Added on July 15, 2009, 3:48 pmcalled miti and custom, confirmed with a 'inside-friend' for tax purpose, checked with import car dealer, after much consideration, it is just not worth bringing back any car, UNLESS it's a exotic/really expensive car..

it's just not worth the hassle.. and even if u got connection, dealers are able to match your cost of bringing any car in, coz reasons you-can-imagine..

If u still wanna go thru the troubles and get your own imported car, australian ppl can just forget it, GO JAPAN~~

i will wait for yen to drop, and import from japan again, much better overall route..
Suggestion to future ppl who consider to import your own car, steps:
1. find out the tax tat u gonna pay, using the provided calculator by floristhut (really easy), call custom (03 88822100) to confirm the tax payable (they R really helpful).  (U ONLY NEED TO KNOW THE CAR ORIGINAL DOCKET PRICE.. USE GOOGLE)

2. go google import car dealers in malaysia, look for price selling of your wanted car. (or call them to try haggling, it's worth it)

3. compare the price dealer selling and your total cost to import (car price, shipping, tax)..  and see how much money u can save to import yourself, COMPARE to the hassle u have to go thru if import your own..

4. Decision~
West malaysian are lucky, if any east malaysian need some help? pm me~
*
good job bro!! i did all those before but too lazy to type them down here..yeah some cars are worth for collection namely nsx,fto,mr2 and integra, even AE86!..even they are considerably old cars but the price sometimes skyrocketing lol...

QUOTE(Painey @ Sep 18 2009, 12:32 PM)
Ok so here is the situation...

I am in Sydney and will be going back to Malaysia to work for a few years and my company is paying for my relocation costs.  I want to ship my 2002 Civic back since I have only clocked up 40K on it and I bought it brand new in Sept 2002 (just over 7 years now).

I have a few questions:

a) Can I apply for the AP in Australia or do I have to apply in Malaysia?
b) Where is the easiest place to get the AP form/JK form?
c) How long to apply for AP because I'm coming back in 4 weeks.
d) If I have to apply in Malaysia then can I send all my documents to someone in Malaysia to help me do it or do I need to apply in person? (do they need originals like passport etc or can I send certified copy via emails?
e) My driving license has expired - do I need to renew it first before doing this process?
f) Alternatively how about I send the car back to Malaysia first then only apply for AP???
g) Anybody got a sample letter to MITI that I can use for my application for AP?
h) Can somebody other than me clear everything in Malaysia (since I might have be travelling around for work) when the car arrives (do I need to be there?)
i) Is the discounts quite easy to get?
j) I'm assuming that the tax is going to be probably under RM15K - does that sound right? I'm assuming the 2002 Honda is around RM100K?

Sorry about the many questions but I tried asking MATRADE here (they dont know anything) and I have been trying to call MITI AP division (no reply)

Thanks!

just quick answer, open houses waiting for me...

a. apply in malaysia, need to have boarding pass, apply within 3 months after touch down
b. i bought it in percetakan nasional berhad, cheapest u could get from production line =p
c. 10 working days..mine took longer, thus plan well
d. u can do it yourself and its cheaper..or ask someone to do it which is likely "show me the money!!!"...send all the verified docs to miti level 2..
e. shoot..thats dangerous bro, renew it asap..it requires full licence to apply ap
f. hmmm..that probably have to do alot with port parking charges since applying ap and dealing with kastam are time consuming
g. you have to ask miti lady to email it to you
h. you may ask agents to do it but there goes the moneyyy..
i. hmm depends...but you have to meet the pengarah selangor in person and try to look honest and humble..remember..honesty is the bes policy
j. rm15k? dream on..let say you will be back by 2011..therefore 2011-2002=9 years...good choice since it is more than 6 years..however pls refer tax calculator and beastx explanation..roughly i would estimate rm40k =p (can be bothered..open houses are waiting for me)

hope that helps you..cheers
