why so hard to ustd? I didnt say its not worth to bring back 90s car , as i said earlier, whatever car age you bring back, usually is much cheaper than Msia market price, so it is worthwhile.

my point is if you have 2 same cars to buy, one is 15 yrs and the other is 10 yrs, it is better to get the 10 yrs car coz the amount of tax to be paid will not differ much. This is due to minus exponential curve as explained b4. To be worth or not, I recommend to check msia market price first coz some cars are not worth to bring back, for ex: proton smile.gif

haha
thanks for the reply dude

if in the US, the NSX can be cheaply bought at USD25000 (stock) but usually a 1991 NSX-R or a 1994 NSX-T
assuming the conversion rate is around 3.52, the price in MYR should be RM87000

in the UK, a 1993 NSX-R can be bought at GBP150000 (stock)
assuming the coversion rate is around 5.76, the price in myr is around RM75000

in malaysia, the average price for an NSX (the 1st gen with C30A) is around RM140k-180k
smile.gif

my questions are:

i) so using ur tax calculator, what are the tax im supposed to pay for an almost 20 year old car eh?
ii) any idea on AP?

i) The tax will be very minimal, ([about 6% of the original car's price + shipping cost] x tax).... should be well below RM10k (maybe 6 to 7k)..
ii) AP is free (or RM2.50 for the form) if your qualify. Prepare to pay big bucks if you don't, or maybe it is not possible as there is a 5 years old limit on commercial AP.
Best bet is friends/family overseas willing to use their AP for you (car/insurance will be under their name for 2 years)

UK cars have the same driving side as Malaysian's

AP=Approved Permit...
when a permit is given i dont see why its impossible, given that u got enuf cash lol..unless you fail to understand what a permit is lol..so stop exaggerating this and that, make your own homework so this thread can be very useful to some people..if i were you and wanting to keep myself whining, what about buying a persona then wait its electric window to self-deteriorate lol...
heres a good tips for you->GOOGLE everything on the word student Ap or surf into MITI website under document 11..if you get the rough idea then come back to discuss with us...

btw regarding your nsx or whatsoever..i got a few mates bringing 90s cars and they are still much cheaper...so i dont see why you cant where else few people nailed it....

man..beastx, i respect your effort to answer every question asked here even though its supposed for them to find the answers themselves ie tax(even with the tax calculator is THERE!),procedures(where they can find it at MITI website), and some other stupid ones..i think we should tell them to look into the procedures themselves them come back to us to discuss the details...

takuntung..keep up the analysis..i find it very useful cheers..

Hi guys,

some really excellent information here. I have attempted to use the customs duty calculator but i just need to ask u panel of experts smile.gif

As i understand AP is completely different to duty payable am i right? Holding an AP does not mean its tax free. I was misinformed that to encourage Msians to go back, they would give AP and not tax the vehicle.

I am moving back from Australia. I have a 2002 W203 Mercedes C 200 Kompressor. Had it since from new until now. From new it was about AUD$85k.
Can anyone confirm with me the tax payable portion?

Thanks in advance.

As mentioned before there is the incentive for professionals returning to import or buy car free from Tax (procedures/applicability/validity, I do not know) . On ordinary student/personal AP, the Tax I would say mid RM20k (maybe 25 to 30k).

BeastX,

After reading all these pages, it really makes me wanna bring my car back to malaysia.. It's a 2004 V35 skyline coupe 3500cc.

Q1. based on the calculator provided:
Harga docket i estimated RM150k, coz i dont know where to find the original price..
pedagang 15% deduction
depreciation at 62%
individual discount 20%
disc rayuan 10%
sales tax 10%
Duty i 30% (but this is a jap car, can i ask them to calculate 5%?)
Duty e 125%
Tax payable RM66k roughly!!

Did i calculate it correctly?? Rrm80k

or should i use use the price i paid for the car, which is RM80k as harga docket? then tax payable end up with RM37k

which is correct?

Q2. I only owned the car for 5 months until now. I know the minimum requirement is 9 months.
So, can i wait till Nov 2009, which will result my ownership of total 9 month, then allowed for import?

If anyone can help me out, i really appreciate it..

Cheers,
Danny
Vic

Another small Q3, there are mods on the car, rims, body kit, audio.. worth rm30k, can i get away from being taxed?

Actually the tax upon tax... brings the effective tax to be 221.75%... say 150k (original), depreciation at 5 years, 70% off, ... it will be RM84.8k (before appeal)...

You may want to wait or delay it for another month... say ship in mid dec and for the ship to arrive at around early Jan 2010... they may actually count your car a 6th year (ignoring the age in months).

You may want to replace the rims with cheapo/original or take out/remove valuble stuff and pack separately... all things (big household items,electronics,70/101 inch plasma/lcd, personel stuff/etc) other than the vehicle should be tax free (own for at least a year or 6 mnths)... You may want to take the chance to import stuff with a container together with the car.
In my case the custom officers did not bother to check... I could have could have solid gold/platinium car interior.

How did u get 70% off depreciation? not 62%? (small issue, forget it, i m more worried the below issue, please provide some info?)

Q1. So do u mean, i CAN wait till december, result in 10 month ownership (but i am leaving aus in august, and the car kept by sister and wait for shipping in december), apply AP at december, schedule its arrival at january 2010, which can help me get more depreciation.. In short, the question is, is it ok that i go back malaysia first, coz i havent own the car for 9 months, and wait till end of this year and fulfill the requirement of ownership while i am OVERSEA-Malaysia.

Q2. Any idea where can i find the original price of the car? google didnt help much.. wiki don hv price too...

Q3. Also, i am thinking to take the shipping using RORO (not in container), coz i dont hv much furniture or stuff to bring back, and last time, my dad's lexus GS350 import from japan used RORO, not much hassle~ Wat do u guys think?

Q4. May i know why u suggest taking out the rim/valuable stuff (which i assume are sound system)? Is it bcoz ppl might steal it on-board? i seen imported car with stolen headunit during shipping..

exceeding 5 years 70%...

A1. U own it for 9 months... you do not have to be in AUS. in that 9 months... but you have to stay in AUS for more than 1 year.. If I am not mistaken the AP is valid for 3 months...So as soon your car is 9 moths old, your sister maybe can de-register the car and get the proper docs sent to you so that you can apply for the AP in Nov. (takes 2 weeks, but they may delay to 3 to 4 weeks). So as soon that you get your AP... you may wait a week or so, at around mid-December to send the car... It may take up to 2 weeks for ship to arrive in Malaysia which will be in Jan 2010. You'll need to check all this with the shipping company....

A2. There are websites in Japanese (based in Japan) that list the car's price at the year it was made in Yen.

A3. Container will be the safest. 20ft should not cost much, again You'll need to check with the shipping service.

A4. The custom evaluating office (Kelang) may be thorough and hike up the price of your vehicle based on additional accessories based on inspection. I heard it been done before. ... And the risk of stolen/damage as you mentioned if it's RORO. Everything in a container is sealed/locked and only to be opened in your presence. you can pack valuble things separately in boxes mixed together with books/cloths...
